"Sometimes I think that this life has been truly difficult, and it will probably be even harder in the future... But now I suddenly feel that it doesn't matter, because you will always be by my side, right?" Wang Long said softly.
Jiang Xue, experiencing such intimate contact with someone for the first time, couldn't help but tremble slightly. However, after hearing these words, she nodded heavily and resolutely replied, "Yes, I feel the same."
The two fell silent, embracing each other in the unprecedented stillness of Dragon City, comforting one another as if they were a timeless painting.
The next day, the Dragon Head surprisingly insisted on leading a group of elders to the top of the City Wall to confront the tens of thousands from the Serpent Demon Clan.
"Where is your clan leader?!"
The Dragon Head shouted loudly from the City Wall, his voice booming across the land.
The Serpent Demon Clan had two messengers, four guardians, and eighteen elders. The one leading the attack on Dragon City's main gate was their left guardian, named Qu Chi.
Seeing the Dragon Head's authoritative demeanor made Qu Chi momentarily stunned with anger. He responded loudly, "Are you not the Contemporary Dragon Head of this Dragon City?!"
The Dragon Head replied, "That's right! Bring your clan leader out to speak!"
Qu Chi sneered and said, "If you want to see our clan leader, let's see if you have that qualification!"
The group of elders beside the Dragon Head turned pale with anger and shouted furiously, "Impudent! What gives you the right to speak to our Dragon Head like that!"
"You are Qu Chi from the Serpent Clan's left messengers, right?" The Dragon Head silenced their shouts and said in a deep voice, "If you can make decisions for your clan leader, then that's fine."
Qu Chi's expression changed. He hadn't expected their intelligence to be so thorough. Moreover, he didn't dare to claim such authority himself. He could only snort coldly and say, "If you want to see our clan leader, you'll have to get past me first!"
"You're being arrogant! Do you really think your status allows you to challenge our Dragon Head? Let me take you on!" A voice came from beside the Dragon Head. Before he could stop him, that person had already flown down to the ground.
This person was Zhang Minghan, head of the Zhang Family!
Wang Long glanced at Jiang Xue. He knew that Jiang Xue's biological father was a respected figure in the Zhang Family but did not know who it was. Thus, upon seeing Zhang Minghan take action, he looked at Jiang Xue.
However, Jiang Xue merely shook her head slightly.
"Who goes there? State your name! I, Qu Chi, do not kill nameless individuals!"
Zhang Minghan laughed loudly and coldly replied, "Who knows what you, Qu Chi, are? Stop the nonsense and come at me if you can!" With a wave of his hand, dozens of Thunderfire bolts shot out wildly towards Qu Chi.
The latter's face was as calm as water; with a cold snort, he waved his sleeve, and a curtain of water seemingly appeared out of nowhere, engulfing all the Thunderlight. With a fierce swing, he dissipated it all to the side.
"Indeed impressive, but to think you can act so arrogantly in my Dragon City with just that level of skill is truly reckless!" Zhang Minghan sneered and shouted loudly as he slammed his palm upward.
Qu Chi did not dare to be careless; he charged forward and struck out with his palm to meet the attack head-on.
The two collided with a thunderous crash, causing the front-line Serpent Clan soldiers to be blown back by the Raging Wind, each of them pale with shock as they retreated over ten feet.
"Dragon Head, who do you think will win between the Serpent Clan's Left Envoy and Zhang Family Head?" an elder whispered to the Dragon Head.
The Dragon Head shook his head and said, "It seems evenly matched, but Zhang Family Head appears to be slightly at a disadvantage. If this continues... there may be unforeseen circumstances."
Wang Long glanced at the Dragon Head and saw him as calm and steady as usual. However, he knew that yesterday's battle had greatly affected him; he was already severely injured but was forcing himself to hold it together.
Moreover, he was aware that over a decade ago during the Dragon Duel, the Dragon Head had forcibly pushed his power to its limits and even used the city's treasure—Dragon Without a Leader—which caused a backlash of magic within him, leaving him with old injuries.
Now with both old and new wounds combined, it was likely that he was merely holding on to reassure those around him.
Wang Long clenched his fists in frustration at his inability to become stronger and share more of the burden for his father.
The Dragon Head seemed to notice his gaze; he turned his head and smiled at him, subtly nodding in acknowledgment.
At this moment, the battle between Zhang Minghan and Qu Chi had escalated to its peak. Both were top-tier experts, and this clash was something Wang Long had never witnessed before—truly spectacular and shocking.
He observed how they utilized Dragon Techniques with such freedom; many of their moves deviated from the inherited Dragon Arts themselves. Instead, they incorporated their own understanding and adapted to the changing circumstances of battle.
Such high-level combat was rare for anyone; when encountered, one could not help but watch intently and learn meticulously.
Wang Long was no exception; soon he forgot all other distractions and immersed himself in watching their duel.
As the Left Envoy Qu Chi of the Serpent Demon Clan, he was almost one person beneath a thousand, and in terms of cultivation, he was also at a high level, confident that no one could rival him except for the clan leader. However, upon arriving in Dragon City, he discovered that he was struggling against a mere family head, which infuriated him.
Little did he know that Zhang Minghan was equally alarmed. He was one of the Eight Divisions of Heavenly Dragons, holding a position second only to the Dragon Head. Although he believed his skills had not yet reached the level of the Dragon Head or Elder Longyin, or even that mysterious family head from the Wang family, he thought he had no rivals among those below them.
Yet at this moment, facing such a minor envoy from the Serpent Clan—merely a race that had dared to hide for thousands of years—he found himself at a disadvantage.
If it weren't for his decades of cultivation and combat experience, he would have likely already been defeated.
The Dragon Head noticed that Zhang Minghan was merely holding on and frowned deeply. Suddenly, he sighed and said loudly, "Alright, Zhang Family Head, it seems you two are evenly matched. Continuing to fight will not yield a clear winner in a short time; it would be better to stop here. Left Envoy Qu, you should have seen the strength of our Dragon City; it would be best to invite your clan leader out."
Zhang Minghan understood that this was a concession made for his sake; the comment about being evenly matched was merely for show. He played along and coldly laughed, saying, "Left Envoy Qu indeed has great skills; I admire you."
After saying this, he withdrew. However, Qu Chi was unwilling to let it go; having clearly held the upper hand, how could it be said they were evenly matched? With a cold laugh, he suddenly curled his fingers into claws, and five fierce Raging Winds transformed into five sharp arrows that lunged toward the already turned back of Zhang Minghan.
Seeing this, the Dragon Head's expression turned cold as he suddenly moved and vanished from atop the City Wall.
Qu Chi's fierce claw unexpectedly met with an unyielding barrier and was abruptly halted in mid-air! Startled, he looked up and found that a person had already appeared before him.
