Three Pure Ones officially had their first batch of disciples after taking in students for the first time. Three Teachings began to flourish as Three Pure Ones patiently taught them, spreading knowledge and resolving doubts. Subsequently, Primordial continued to accept disciples, and the number of students under Expound Teachings gradually increased. Sky-Connecting adhered to the principle of teaching without discrimination, eagerly instructing those who came to seek guidance, leading to a rapid growth in the number of disciples. Intercepting Teachings was bustling with activity. Meanwhile, Laozi remained leisurely and seemed less enthusiastic about accepting disciples, having only Xuandu under his tutelage, with no apparent intention of taking in more.
One day, Ye Chuanze returned from a meeting at Purple Cloud Palace, feeling elated as he soared towards Buzhou Mountain Cloud Marsh Cave. As he passed by a fiery mountain, he suddenly heard a voice coming from the Lower Realm.
"Friend, please hold on!"
The voice belonged to a proud young man, sounding as refreshing as a clear spring.
Upon hearing this, Ye Chuanze halted his movements and listened as the voice continued, "I have a connection with you; would you be willing to assist me?"
After hearing this, Ye Chuanze couldn't help but smirk. This person was indeed straightforward and quite arrogant. If it were anyone else who heard such words, they would likely turn away in disdain—was this how one asks for help? However, today’s visitor was Ye Chuanze, who found himself intrigued by the proud youth. Such arrogance suggested either exceptional talent or excessive self-confidence bordering on blind hubris.
He descended from the sky and landed at the entrance of the fiery mountain, where an intense heat greeted him, scorching enough to seem like it could incinerate everything in existence. Ye Chuanze secretly marveled at what kind of spirit could be born amidst such flames; could it be a fire elemental?
As he gazed into the volcano's mouth, eager to uncover its secrets and see what kind of spirit resided there, he found that it was filled with dazzling five-colored light that was so brilliant it obscured any view of the interior.
"Please do not take offense; it is not that I am hiding my true form from you," the voice explained. "This Five-Color Divine Light is a gift from my elders. I feel quite ashamed to admit that my cultivation is insufficient to refine this Five-Color Divine Light, making it impossible for me to control it, which is why you see what you see now."
Upon hearing this, Ye Chuanze began to ponder. It seemed this unknown spirit had an extraordinary background; perhaps it was a descendant of some innate powerful being. The offspring of Primordial deities were often difficult to conceive due to their remarkable lineage and profound cultivation levels being feared by the Heavenly Dao. It was no wonder that such a young boy could be so arrogant; his parents were likely innate powers themselves, giving him an extraordinary heritage. Although he could not compare with those top-tier innate beings among the Primordial, he certainly ranked among the elite within his generation.
However, this boy was perhaps too arrogant. With a smile that seemed both amused and contemplative, Ye Chuanze remarked meaningfully, "Child, what do you call me?"
There was a moment of silence from the voice before it responded coldly, "Please do not joke with me."
"I am not jesting; your parents are my peers, which makes you my junior. I refer to your parents as friends; thus you cannot address me in such a manner; otherwise, it would disrupt our hierarchy," Ye Chuanze stated.
The fairy in the volcano said, "All those who seek the Dao and cultivate immortality are fellow Daoists. In the elusive journey of pursuing the Great Dao, there is no distinction of seniority; everything is based on strength." After a pause, he continued, "I believe that with my cultivation level, it is not inappropriate to call you a fellow Daoist."
Oh, is this a case of youthful arrogance? Everything relies on strength, and the strong are respected; this is the survival rule of the Primordial. I just didn't expect this unwritten rule of survival to be used so skillfully by this young man. Ye Chuanze raised an eyebrow and said, "You make a valid point, but how do you prove that you have the qualifications to be considered my equal?"
Upon hearing this, the young man cunningly replied, "If you help me with one thing first, I will prove that I am qualified to be considered your equal."
Ye Chuanze found it amusing; this young man was quite clever. Very well! Let’s consider it a good connection and help him out. This young man is extraordinary and will surely become someone significant in the future.
"What do you need me to do?" Ye Chuanze asked.
"I need to refine this Five-Color Divine Light in order to break the restrictions placed on me by my elder and leave this Flame Mountain. However, as my cultivation increases, I find that the divine fire of Flame Mountain is insufficient to refine this Five-Color Divine Light. Could you possibly retrieve the Primordial Fire for me to assist in refining this Five-Color Divine Light?" the young man said.
Upon hearing this, Ye Chuanze immediately understood that he had been tricked by the young man. The boy was currently trapped by the restrictions of Flame Mountain and could not fight him to prove his qualifications as an equal. The boy was trying to pull a fast one on Ye Chuanze to get him to fetch the Primordial Fire for him.
Now that Ye Chuanze had already promised to help him find the Primordial Fire, he could not go back on his word and had no choice but to admit defeat. He chuckled inwardly, thinking that he, Ye Chuanze, was usually clever and cunning; pulling tricks on others was his specialty. He never expected to fall into the hands of such a young boy today. He hummed to himself about how "the waves of the Yangtze River push forward while the rear waves die on the beach" as he set off to find the Primordial Fire for the young man.
*********
The Primordial Fire is a rare thing; anything with the word 'Primordial' is hard to find. It has been tens of thousands of years since Pangu opened up the heavens, and all those innate treasures and spiritual roots have been divided among powerful beings of Primordial origin. Those Innate Spiritual Treasures that managed to survive without being discovered are born in extremely secluded places and are very difficult to find.
As far as Ye Chuanze knew, there happened to be a piece of Primordial Fire in Laozi's possession; he used it for alchemy. This was also why he so readily agreed to help the young man find the Primordial Fire—it wouldn't require much effort or time on his part.
Ye Chuanze arrived at Kunlun Mountain, where a gatekeeper approached him and asked, "Immortal, who are you looking for?"
"I come from Buzhou Mountain Cloud Marsh Cave and wish to visit Supreme Clarity Sage today," Ye Chuanze replied. Now that the Three Pure Ones had become saints, their names could not be casually mentioned. Therefore, Ye Chuanze chose to refer to them by their titles: Supreme Clarity Laozi, Primordial Jade Purity, and Supreme Clarity and Celestial Connection.
The young attendant, upon hearing this, said, "Please wait a moment, immortal. Let me go inform them." After speaking, he hurried inside.
Ye Chuanze stood outside waiting. During his idle time, he glanced around, surveying this corner of the renowned sacred place of the immortals, Kunlun Mountain.
Before long, the young attendant ran out and said, "Immortal, please follow me inside. The master has requested your presence."
Ye Chuanze followed the attendant inside and arrived at a Meditation Room. Upon entering, he found the Three Pure Ones present. However, the atmosphere seemed tense; Sky-Connecting wore an angry expression, Primordial appeared colder than usual, while Laozi maintained his usual calm demeanor, seemingly unaffected by worldly matters.
Seeing this scene, Ye Chuanze felt a stir in his heart but kept his expression unchanged and said, "I hope my sudden visit today does not disturb the tranquility of my three senior brothers."
"Why would you say that, junior brother? You are being too polite," Laozi replied. He then turned to Primordial and Sky-Connecting and said, "Let this matter rest for now; we can discuss it again in the future. Sky-Connecting, you should temper your temperament; as a leader of our teachings, you must not act impulsively or recklessly."
Sky-Connecting's anger did not diminish upon hearing this but dared not refute his elder brother's words. He nodded and said, "You are right, elder brother. I will take your advice." He had always held Laozi in great respect; there was an aura about Laozi that commanded reverence and trust.
Laozi was pleased with his response and turned to Ye Chuanze saying, "Junior brother, come with me; let us speak elsewhere."
"Alright," Ye Chuanze replied as he followed Laozi out, leaving Primordial and Sky-Connecting to their own matters.
Ye Chuanze accompanied Laozi to a tea room where they both sat down. In front of them was a table set with a tea service. A young boy brought in a pot of tea and placed it on the table.
"I enjoy drinking tea; I have no wine. I hope you do not mind my humble hospitality," Laozi said as he poured a cup of tea for him.
"How could I? Brother's tea must surely be of the finest quality. In fact, I am the one who benefits from this; how can one complain when receiving such generosity?" Ye Chuanze lightly sipped from his cup and replied.
"Junior brother, you have come to visit recently; is there something important you wish to discuss?" Laozi asked.
Ye Chuanze put down the teacup and said, "There is something I need to trouble you with, Senior Brother. I would like to borrow a flame from your Primordial Fire."
Hearing this, Laozi asked, "What do you need the Primordial Fire for?"
"On behalf of someone," Ye Chuanze replied.
Laozi fell silent for a moment and then said, "Since it is a request from my junior brother, I will grant it to you."
"Thank you very much, Senior Brother," Ye Chuanze said with a slight smile.
Laozi handed him a cluster of golden flames, and Ye Chuanze accepted it, casually asking, "I noticed that Sky-Connecting Senior Brother and Primordial Senior Brother seemed off earlier. What happened?"
"Please excuse my junior brother's laughter; it has indeed been troubling."
Laozi briefly recounted the situation in a nonchalant tone. It turned out that the Dao Palace on Kunlun Mountain was built when the Three Pure Ones settled there and was not very large. There were no issues when the three lived there, but now that they had taken disciples, the place felt cramped. This was not a significant problem; they could simply expand the palace. However, constructing a Dao Palace was not a simple task, and careful discussion and design were needed for the expansion. Before the palace could be completed, the number of disciples under Sky-Connecting had increased significantly, making the already crowded Dao Palace even more packed.
Primordial preferred tranquility and disliked noise, which made him unhappy in such conditions. However, out of respect for Sky-Connecting's disciples, he remained patient. Until today, when a demon disciple from Sky-Connecting unknowingly angered Primordial, who then scolded him harshly. Sky-Connecting wanted to protect his disciple and advised Primordial not to get angry over trivial matters with juniors. This remark only fueled Primordial's anger further; his long-suppressed discontent erupted at that moment. Sky-Connecting was not one to endure such behavior either; seeing Primordial berate his disciple made him unhappy as well, leading him to retort a few times. This escalated into an argument between them, resulting in the scene Ye Chuanze had just witnessed.
Ye Chuanze found it curious that these two brothers, who usually shared a deep bond, could also argue. However, he knew better than to voice this thought. Despite Laozi's seemingly indifferent demeanor at that moment, he actually cared deeply for both of them. After considering his words carefully, Ye Chuanze said, "It's not really a big deal; just an occasional disagreement over differing opinions. It’s nothing serious."
Laozi looked at him without speaking for a while. After some time, he finally said, "If only it were just that."
Ye Chuanze fell silent upon hearing this; it was not something he should respond to.
The two of them remained silent, quietly sipping their tea. After an hour, Ye Chuanze set down his teacup and said, "Thank you for your assistance today, Senior Brother. The sky is getting dark, so I will take my leave now." He had obtained the flame of Primordial Fire and did not wish to linger, so he stood up to bid farewell.
Laozi did not try to keep him either. They exchanged goodbyes, and Ye Chuanze left.
He soared through the clouds back to the Flame Mountain he had come from, arriving shortly.
The Demon Clan Youth at the volcano's mouth was surprised to see him return and asked, "Why are you back?"
"I brought what you wanted," Ye Chuanze replied.
"Really!?" The boy's tone was a mix of shock and skepticism; the short time it took for Ye Chuanze to return raised doubts about the truth of his words.
"Do you think I would lie to you? Here, take it!" Ye Chuanze tossed the flame of Primordial Fire into the volcano's mouth and said, "See for yourself if it's real or not. Did I deceive you?"
Before long, a voice filled with excitement came from within, "It really is Primordial Fire! Thank you, friend!"
"You're welcome." After a pause, Ye Chuanze added, "I am Ye Chuanze from Buzhou Mountain Cloud Marsh Cave. You can come find me once you break free from your restrictions in the future."
Upon hearing this, the boy replied, "I am Kong Xuan. I will surely repay your kindness in the future."
Kong Xuan? Why does that name sound so familiar? Where have I heard it before? Ye Chuanze thought to himself.
