"That's a fair point; this Country Bumpkin doesn't look that great either." The man sized up Mo Ming and mocked, "Country Bumpkin, what's the matter? Afraid to even breathe? Are you scared? Hey, I'm just curious, what's it like being kept by a rich woman? Is it comfortable?"
"Excuse me, Mr. Fool, please don't misunderstand me. What I meant to say is that while this guy may not be handsome, he's still a step above you. Moreover, in terms of ability, you probably can't compare to him," Murong Lian said with a hint of a smile. "Now that I've said that, you understand, right?"
"You..." The man felt a bit irritated after being toyed with by the two women and coldly snorted, "I can't be bothered to argue with you. After all, you're both on his side, right? I think you two must be blind to like this kind of pretty boy."
"Haha... exactly, I think so too," the female companion chimed in.
"Sir, there's a limit to how much you can show off. I've really tolerated you for long enough. Are you really that wealthy?" Mo Ming said as he walked towards the man with his hands tucked into his waistband, his handsome face sporting a slightly mischievous smile.
"I was just joking around with friends earlier, but you've been throwing sarcastic remarks at me since then. I want to know what kind of capital you have to look down on others like this."
"What do you want?" The man felt an inexplicable sense of dread as he saw the mischievous curve of Mo Ming's lips but didn't want to back down. He replied defiantly, "We can talk it out; just don't get physical. I'll tell you this: I know many friends in the Police Force. If you dare to lay a finger on me, you'll regret it."
"Many police friends? I'm so scared," Mo Ming said with a teasing smile. "You don't need to be afraid; we're all principled people here. Do you understand what principles are? We shouldn't fight; that would be so vulgar! We're all about civility and manners. Didn't you say I'm a Country Bumpkin without money? Then..."
"What are you trying to do?" The man noticed Mo Ming getting closer with that mischievous smile and felt some fear creeping in, instinctively wanting to back away.
"I'll tell you this: you'd better not hit him; otherwise, his friends won't let you off easily. You'll end up spending at least ten or twenty years in Detention," the man's female companion warned out of concern for Mo Ming causing trouble.
"I'm not trying to do anything; I just want to see who has more money," Mo Ming said with a hint of disdain in his smile as he gestured around. "With so many people here, are you brave enough to pay for everyone's bill?"
Upon hearing this, the man quickly glanced around at the number of people present. The café was quite large and mostly filled with patrons. Given that the Leisurely Cafe had high prices and Mo Ming's table alone had racked up nearly ten thousand, if he were to cover everyone's bill—essentially renting out the entire place—it would probably exceed sixty thousand. The thought of sixty thousand being at least half a year's salary made him lose confidence.
"Hmph, just because you can't afford the bill doesn't mean I'll be your fool," the man scoffed arrogantly. "Country Bumpkin, do you think just saying a few words will provoke me into falling for your trick? Let me make it clear: I have money but won't engage in such meaningless activities."
How self-righteous he sounded! Just because you're using reverse psychology doesn't mean I'll fall for it even if I have money.
His female companion nodded in agreement, finding his reasoning sound. "Exactly! Even if we had money, who are you guys to expect us to treat you?"
"Just because you have money, I'm a Country Bumpkin, so don't waste your breath. Just one question: will you pay or not?" Mo Ming said without hesitation, as if it were a matter of course. "You can't be out of money, can you?"
"Still trying to provoke me? Hmph, I won't fall for your tricks. How about that? I will never pay for all of you," the man shook his head, looking quite pleased with himself. "Using money to pay for you all is not as good as buying my dear a designer handbag, right?"
"Exactly, darling, you're so good to me." The woman felt deeply moved.
"Alright then, since you refuse to pay, let me take care of the bill," Mo Ming clapped his hands a few times loudly, catching the attention of the customers chatting nearby.
Mo Ming smiled and said, "Excuse me everyone, I apologize for interrupting. If this gentleman here apologizes to me, I will cover the bill for each of you today, and feel free to order whatever you like; I will take care of all expenses."
"Apologize! Apologize! Apologize!"
The entire café erupted in cheers, urging the man to apologize to Mo Ming.
However, when Mo Ming made this statement, the two people immediately scoffed at him. The man laughed loudly and said, "Everyone, I think you've been fooled by this person. Do you really think he can afford such a large bill?"
A male customer shouted, "As long as you apologize, if he doesn't pay up, we will seek justice for you. He won't get away with it; that should work, right? Hurry up and apologize; we're all waiting for you to say something."
"Yeah, hurry up and apologize! If he dares to trick us, I'll strip him and throw him out!"
"Right, hurry up and apologize!"
At this moment, Murong Lian was a bit worried that Mo Ming wouldn't have enough money to pay the bill. Even if she ended up paying later, it would still be embarrassing for Mo Ming. However, Lin Yuan'er didn't seem worried at all; perhaps she understood the real Mo Ming better and felt confident in him.
Noticing Murong Lian's concern, Lin Yuan'er comforted her: "Sister Lian, don't worry. Brother Mo always speaks with absolute confidence. Besides, this amount of money is nothing to him."
Upon hearing this, Murong Lian was somewhat shocked. She stared at Lin Yuan'er for a moment; Lin Yuan'er's expression was serious and didn't seem like she was lying. Only then did she feel relieved and became even more curious about Mo Ming's true identity.
A twenty-year-old young man, not only skilled but also highly proficient in computer technology, remained remarkably calm during a previous encounter with robbers, a feat few could achieve. This piqued Murong Lian's intense curiosity about Mo Ming's identity.
"Country Bumpkin, don't try to act tough. This meal won't be settled with just two or three thousand dollars. Don't end up getting thrown out naked!" the man mocked.
"You don't need to worry about that. Since I dared to say these words, I've definitely considered the consequences. Just hurry up and apologize; everyone is waiting for you to save them a hefty sum," Mo Ming replied with a smile.
"You said it; don't regret it later."
"Go ahead, I won't regret it."
After hesitating for a while, the man finally lowered his head and apologized to make Mo Ming look even more foolish later: "I'm sorry for what happened earlier!"
"Good boy," Mo Ming felt an impulse to laugh and pat his head, then said loudly: "Since my good boy has apologized, my earlier words are now valid. Feel free to eat and drink; I will cover all expenses. No need to thank me; thank my good boy instead, as he exchanged dignity for money to treat you!"
"Hmph, I hope you have enough money to pay. Otherwise, you'll be even more embarrassed," the man's face turned slightly pale as he shouted viciously: "Waiter, bring the best dishes! I want to make this guy go broke!"
Lin Yuan'er smiled as she walked over to Mo Ming, linking her arm with his and said: "Alright, Brother Mo, we've eaten enough. Let's not stay here any longer; we wouldn't want some people to ruin our appetite. Let's hurry and leave."
"Do you really have enough money, Mo Ming?" Murong Lian approached with a frown.
"I don't know if it's enough," Mo Ming replied as he pulled out a card from his pocket and asked: "Should this card be sufficient to cover these expenses?"
When Mo Ming took out the card, the man intended to mock him again but immediately shut his mouth upon seeing the card in Mo Ming's hand.
"This is a Swiss Bank Gold Card; do you think I can't afford these expenses?"
Seeing the Gold Card in Mo Ming's hand shocked Murong Lian. This card wasn't something just anyone could possess; one needed at least one hundred million dollars in savings to obtain it. It was a symbol of status, and sometimes even having money didn't guarantee one could get it—at least she hadn't been able to.
Lin Yuan'er seemed unaware that Mo Ming possessed such a Gold Card, her eyes filled with surprise as she asked, "Um, Brother Mo, you really surprised me this time. Where did you get this card?"
"Of course I applied for it. Do you think I found it on the ground?" Mo Ming replied irritably, then called over a waiter and asked foolishly, "I want to know if I can use this card to pay for everyone's orders here since there are so many people?"
The waiter, who had been smiling, was immediately stunned upon seeing Mo Ming's Gold Card. It took a while for him to regain his composure as he said, "I'm sorry, I was distracted just now. Ah, sir, this card could buy out the entire café and still have enough left for hundreds more. Are you really planning to pay for all the customers here?"
"Yes, I'm covering everyone's bills. Just give me an estimate of the total, but this gentleman over here can pay for himself," Mo Ming said, pointing at the man who had initially wanted to take advantage of him.
The man who had intended to heavily charge Mo Ming was left dumbfounded after hearing his words. He had just ordered over sixty thousand worth of food—half a month's salary laid out before him like that?
"Alright, I'll handle that for you right away. Please follow me," the waiter said as he took the Gold Card and quickly turned to leave. Mo Ming followed him, and after settling the bill, he left with Lin Yuan'er and Murong Lian.
Time didn’t pass quickly; after leaving Leisurely Cafe, it was still only afternoon. Murong Lian, dressed in a refreshing style, planned to head straight home since she really didn’t want to see her colleagues at the company in this outfit.
However, Lin Yuan'er expressed her desire to go directly to Starry Melody Company to start working so she could achieve some results sooner. Murong Lian certainly wouldn’t refuse her suggestion given her eagerness to jump into work mode. Yet it seemed she had misunderstood; Lin Yuan'er’s main intention behind this suggestion was simply to spend more time with Mo Ming.
Regardless of the reason, Lin Yuan'er wanted to go to the company partly for work but mostly for Mo Ming.
Thus, the three of them drove together to Starry Melody Company.
