Because Li Xiulan still had work to do, Mo Ming let her leave first while he took Haotian's car to the police station to have some tea and chat, which was a good way to pass the boring day.
Upon arriving at the police station, Haotian really treated Mo Ming to tea, but instead of taking him to the interrogation room, he brought him to his office. He then proceeded to interrogate the criminal gang that had been captured, leaving Mo Ming to sit and wait.
Waiting was always boring. With nothing to do, Mo Ming began to wander around Haotian's office. The office wasn't very large; it only contained a desk, two computer chairs, a filing cabinet, and a trophy cabinet. With such limited space, there wasn't much room to move around.
"He's quite capable. He doesn't seem very old, yet he's won so many awards. That shows his abilities are more than sufficient. This small position seems unable to contain him; it won't be long before he reaches the pinnacle of his career."
Looking at the shelves filled with trophies and certificates, Mo Ming sincerely admired Haotian's talent. Judging by his character, Haotian was fair and upright, exuding a leadership quality in every gesture. He definitely wouldn't remain in the position of team leader for long.
The office was too small; Mo Ming quickly finished looking around and found it too boring. After thinking for a while without finding anything to do, he could only sit back in his chair, cross his legs lazily, and maintain that posture for a while.
The door suddenly opened, but it wasn't Haotian who entered; it was Luo Zihong. She seemed somewhat displeased with Mo Ming and didn't want to see him at all. It looked like Haotian had asked her to bring tea. She shot Mo Ming a glare, her nose held high, and without saying a word, she placed the teacup down and turned to leave.
"Hey, I say, with such a strong bias against me, is there poison in this tea?" Mo Ming couldn't help but joke again; he must have been too bored to start looking for trouble.
Luo Zihong stopped in her tracks and turned around with an unhappy expression on her face. "Of course there's poison—it's a rare poison from around the world. You'd better not drink it; otherwise, you're doomed."
If you say it's poisonous, what if I drink it?
Ignoring Luo Zihong's words, Mo Ming picked up the teacup and tested its temperature—it was neither hot nor cold but just right—then he gulped it down in one go and handed the cup back to Luo Zihong with a smile. "Ah, this tea mixed with rare poison is really delicious! Is there any more? Please get me another cup; bottled would be best."
"There's none left; we've run out of tea leaves at the station. This is the only cup available—sorry!" Luo Zihong said with a stern face, snorted coldly, and turned to leave, slamming the door behind her.
"This girl has a nice appearance and figure but has a bit of a temper. No worries though; in this day and age, many men like this tough type—it certainly makes an impression!" Mo Ming entertained himself with jokes.
Since Haotian wouldn't be back anytime soon, Mo Ming felt a bit tired waiting. He lit a cigarette and started puffing away in the office. After smoking for a while, his phone rang.
He Yunsong's call came through as soon as I glanced at the screen.
"Boss, I've been looking for you all day. Where have you been?" As soon as the call connected, He Yunsong's voice came through, sounding a bit anxious. Mo Ming, however, was not in a hurry and asked leisurely, "Are you really that anxious? What happened?"
"How can I not be anxious? I just got news that Sito Hai hired a hitman to take you out. It seems he already knows you're hiding at Lord Qian's place. If you're at Lord Qian's, that's fine, but when I called there, Night Peak said you left a long time ago. How can I not be worried?"
"Oh, I see." Mo Ming responded nonchalantly with an "oh," then laughed and said, "The bond of friendship is indeed deep; you're so concerned about my safety. Don't worry, I'm in an even safer place now. If those hitmen dare to act, they probably have their heads stuck in the door."
"..." The other end seemed speechless for a moment before finally responding, "Alright, it feels a bit like the emperor is calm while the eunuchs are panicking. As long as you're okay. By the way, where are you now? I'll come pick you up."
Mo Ming took a puff of smoke and lightly exhaled, smiling as he said, "I'm at the police station having tea. Do you want to come over for a cup?"
"Uh... no thanks, you can enjoy it by yourself. By the way..." After a pause, He Yunsong curiously asked, "What exactly happened? Why are you at the police station having tea out of nowhere?"
Before Mo Ming could respond, He Yunsong speculated, "Could it be that the police found some clues about what happened before?"
"You're overthinking it; it's purely just tea time." Mo Ming explained with a smile, "I accidentally did a good deed by breaking up a human trafficking ring and saving innocent girls—it's that simple."
"Is that for real? You actually broke up a human trafficking ring? My goodness, who would have thought you'd be so bored as to go around causing trouble?"
Mo Ming understood the beginning of He Yunsong's statement but couldn't grasp its conclusion. Who's causing trouble here! Alright, maybe it was a bit boring, but he wasn't going around looking for trouble.
"Was I looking for trouble? Please get your facts straight; they threatened me and tried to extort my money!" Mo Ming said somewhat dissatisfied as he extinguished his cigarette and asked, "How's the investigation I asked you about going? Can we confirm Sito Hai's whereabouts?"
"Well, let's say those people were blind and decided to extort you for no reason; getting caught in detention was self-inflicted." He Yunsong sighed and said, "Sito Hai has been hiding recently, so his illegal activities have all been put on hold. He's been very low-key; I can't track his whereabouts for now."
"I guessed it; Sito Hai is not a fool. He knows that causing trouble in this situation is like digging his own grave. That's why he hired a hitman to take me out. You all need to be careful during this time. Even if Sito Hai has no evidence linking you to me, he knows these matters are connected to you and might come after you."
"Okay, I'll be careful. Should I come to the police station to find you?"
"No need to come over. There's nothing major here. After a few more words, they will let me go. I'll head back to Lord Qian afterward. By the way, can you help me find someone to modify a sports car for me? I don't want to squeeze onto the bus again and face the disdain of the bus aunties." Mo Ming recalled the unpleasant experience on the bus today and immediately asked He Yunsong for help in getting a sports car.
"I'll take care of it. You can rest assured that I'll get you the best sports car. Just wait for it. If I find out anything about Sito Hai's whereabouts, I'll let you know right away. Alright, I'm hanging up now. Enjoy the tea at the police station; I've had enough of it."
Beep beep beep… Before Mo Ming could say anything, the other side hung up. Looking at the time, it had been nearly an hour and a half, and Haotian still hadn't returned. Mo Ming couldn't just sit there waiting any longer, so he decided to open the door and take a stroll through this den of criminals.
Just as he pulled open the door, he collided with Luo Zihong, who was bringing in tea. The water splashed all over Mo Ming; fortunately, it wasn't hot; otherwise, he might have been in serious trouble.
Luo Zihong was caught off guard by this sudden incident and lost her balance, almost falling to the ground. Luckily, Mo Ming was quick on his feet and managed to grab her, preventing her from executing a "falling backward gracefully."
"Mo Ming, you jerk! I kindly brought you tea, and you actually bumped into me!"
Mo Ming initially thought Luo Zihong would be touched; who knew she would say something like that? He was completely stunned—this lady really had no sense of reason and acted purely on impulse.
"I didn't mean to bump into you! Besides, the tea spilled on me, not on you! I'm not even mad; why are you throwing a fit?"
"You jerk! I can't believe things would turn out this way; you must have done it on purpose! Mo Ming, this isn't over between us. You better not let me catch you with any other dirt on you; otherwise…" Luo Zihong extended her right hand and slowly clenched it into a fist as a warning to Mo Ming before storming off in anger.
Is this considered settling personal scores?
Mo Ming glanced at the surrounding eyes on him and shook his head with a wry smile before retreating back into his room, grabbing some tissues to dry off the water on his clothes.
At that moment, Haotian finally returned. Seeing Mo Ming wiping his waistband with a tissue, he had a strange look in his eyes and awkwardly said, "I came at a bad time, didn't I? How about you clean up a bit before I come in?"
"…No need, just come in and sit down. If you have something to ask, just get to it quickly. I'm really uncomfortable in these wet clothes and need to change soon," Mo Ming replied as he wiped his clothes and tossed the soaked tissue into the trash can.
Hearing this, Haotian awkwardly smiled, walked over to his seat, and after thinking for a moment, couldn't help but ask, "While I wasn't here, did you… cough cough, how did your clothes get wet?"
This nearly made Mo Ming choke on his own saliva; he instantly understood what Haotian meant!
Mo Ming felt a bit frustrated. Was this guy's imagination really that impressive? No matter how energetic he was, he couldn't have ended up in such a situation! What was he even talking about?
"Hey, don't get the wrong idea. I didn't do anything bad; I just accidentally got splashed with tea by your apprentice. Cough..." Mo Ming glanced at Haotian's unusual expression and said, "Alright, forget about that. If you have questions, just ask quickly. I'm really uncomfortable in these wet clothes!"
"Okay then, let's get to the point," Haotian said as he withdrew his strange gaze, nodded, and continued, "You know what happened today. The people in that warehouse are human traffickers. Not only that, but they are also part of a gang of bus thieves—truly despicable. We've been investigating them for a long time, but they're too cunning for us to locate their hideout."
"Don't talk about those boring things; I don't want to know about them. Just ask what you need to know directly. Anything I know, I won't hide from you," Mo Ming said, losing some patience and feeling quite uncomfortable.
"Alright then. We were able to catch them all thanks to you. On behalf of the citizens of Nanhua City, I want to thank you," Haotian paused for a moment and smiled slightly before adding, "However, Mo Ming, one of them died. Do you know that?"
