Anyone who practices martial arts can handle ordinary knife wounds and arrow injuries. After all, such situations are common, and one cannot always have a doctor nearby. Luzi is somewhat knowledgeable in this skill as well; after examining the arrow wound on Meng Wu's back, he began to treat it.
Who says that this leather armor is not effective? At critical moments, it proves to be quite protective. The tough leather absorbs most of the arrow's kinetic energy, with only a large portion of the arrowhead embedded inside. Even so, the damage caused by the arrow shot from the Zhao Army is still considerable.
If an arrow with an expanded tip is fully embedded in the skin, removing the shaft will leave the arrowhead inside the body. Therefore, the best method is not to pull out the arrow but to use a small knife to cut open the swollen wound and extract the arrowhead.
This is a normal physiological response of the body to protect injured tissue, attempting to expel foreign objects through congestion. However, the sharpest part of the designed arrow is meant to cause harm, and relying on the body's natural response will only worsen the injury.
During the process of congestion compressing the wound, the arrowhead becomes tightly wrapped inside, making it difficult to extract. At this point, if one wishes to remove the arrow, they can only resort to a minor surgical procedure that involves cutting open the skin, resulting in a second injury.
For this reason, various countries oppose manufacturing arrows with barbed tips. Thus, during the Warring States period, such specially shaped arrowheads were relatively rare, reflecting an extension of humanitarian spirit.
To spare others when possible embodies the spirit of ancient China. Although it may currently be seen as foolishness, reality proves that this saying encapsulates the essence of human interaction. Discarding rules may seem like a way to gain temporary benefits, but these are fleeting. Numerous facts constantly remind us that the cost of selfishness can be enormous, and no one can escape its repercussions.
Luzi tossed the entire arrow onto the table and poured some medicinal alcohol before carefully bandaging the wound. At this moment, he noticed Meng Wu lying there silently in pain and felt a sense of admiration. He got up and handed over a jug of wine, saying, "Medicinal wine! A little will do you good."
Meng Wu took it and gulped down a large mouthful while looking at the blood-stained arrow he had pulled out. The walls outside were probably already starting to burn; once that barrier was lost, the consequences would be unimaginable. It would lead to a complete melee where there would be no time to protect this important figure. It would be best if they could withstand the Zhao Army's assault; however, that possibility was slim.
Having made up his mind, he handed back the leather pouch. Adjusting his long sword hanging at his waist, he picked up a short spear. "General! While the Zhao Army hasn't broken in yet, you should leave quickly!"
The fire ignited outside blazed fiercely, with waves of heat washing over them from time to time. The arrows carrying oil barrels did not cease; flames could still be seen shooting into the Qin Army camp. The wind fueled the fire's intensity; it seemed determined not to stop until it had completely consumed the entire camp.
Luzi paid no attention to the various sounds coming from outside as he organized the medicine pack he had just used on the table. Noticing some wrinkles on it above, he hurriedly smoothed them out with his hand. After inspecting it closely and finding it visually acceptable, he nodded in approval. Turning around, he saw Meng Wu holding a spear with an expression full of anticipation and was instantly puzzled.
“General Meng! You’re injured, what are you still doing out here?”
Meng Wu was about to speak when a thick smoke rushed in. He choked loudly twice, unable to catch his breath, and grimaced in pain as it pulled at the wound on his back.
Luzi waved away the acrid smoke in front of him and urged Meng Wu to sit down again. He reached for the Short Spear in Meng Wu's hand and said with a smile, “If you dare to use that weapon again, your freshly stitched wound will burst open. Just focus on healing; I’ll handle everything!”
For some reason, upon hearing Luzi's calm voice, Meng Wu's previously restless heart suddenly settled. He finally quieted down and nodded to show he understood.
Li Xin was frantically searching for Luzi amidst the smoke and fire. Looking up, he was astonished to see that the Main Tent had not been ignited by a fire arrow. It was nothing short of a miracle! Everywhere around them was ablaze! But returning was not for witnessing miracles; seeing one standing and another sitting only fueled his anger.
“General! The Military Situation is urgent! The Zhao Army is about to attack; if you don’t leave now, it will be too late!”
Luzi seemed unconcerned by this. He looked down at the Short Spear he was holding and asked, “What’s the situation outside?”
Li Xin approached and slung a full quiver of arrows over his shoulder. He intended to call Meng Wu to cover Luzi’s escape but suddenly realized Meng Wu was injured. “The camp's outside walls have already caught fire; we will completely lose this barrier. The attacking Zhao Army has at least seven or eight hundred men, while our numbers are dwindling. I’ve prepared horses for you; General Meng should cover the Lord’s swift departure!”
Luzi turned to look at Meng Wu, who shook his head with a smile. Understanding immediately, he said, “General Li! The time for battle has come! This is our last chance; gather the remaining Soldiers at the Camp Gate and form an Arrow Formation!”
Li Xin glanced at Meng Wu and noticed he did not oppose but merely nodded with a smile. With a firm grunt, he turned and rushed into the fire to call for the Soldiers to assemble. Attempting to halt the Zhao Army's charge with such few men was clearly insufficient.
Crossing through the fire was impossible; after all, these were flesh-and-blood soldiers. The surrounding burning walls wouldn’t be extinguished anytime soon, making the Camp Gate a crucial battleground in their Military Strategy.
Luzi’s defensive plan was naturally foolproof; as long as they held the Camp Gate against the Zhao Army's advance, they could hold out until evening!
How long has it been!? Why is it getting dark so quickly? The truth is, time always flies when one is busy.
Only thirty-seven Soldiers were left who could still fight, which was unexpected. When Luzi hurried over, his glasses shattered on the ground. He had initially thought there would be at least a hundred people available!
Well! Having some is better than having none! If there were only three left, what was the point of fighting!? It would be more practical to flee for their lives! After coming to this realization, Luzi immediately felt less gloomy. He distributed the dozen or so quivers he had brought and reorganized three squads into an Arrow Formation to defend the camp gate.
Li Xin looked at the Camp Gate, which was intact, and finally understood why this was the only place that had not been set ablaze by the Zhao Army. It turned out they had long planned this as a breakthrough point for themselves! This epiphany did not affect the subsequent preparations, so he quickly called for the Soldiers to head to the Main Tent and move all the supplies over.
It is well known that as long as there are enough specialized bolts for the Crossbow, they can inflict significant casualties on the Zhao Army during the final decisive battle. The number of remaining personnel was no longer important; what mattered was that the Defensive Formation held strong!
Three squads in an Arrow Formation, huh! Indeed, no one has been born yet who can break this formation!
