Sun Thirteen was already filled with anger, and being reprimanded further only fueled his rage. However, after Li Xin's reminder, he suddenly snapped out of his pride. While secretly blaming himself, he couldn't understand how things had changed so much in just a few days away from Luzi.
No wonder when he went to find Luzi to share good news, he felt something was off between them. It turned out he had been blinded and lost his usual wisdom. "Enough! Does saying this help at all!? Hurry up and think of a way to resolve this!"
Li Xin had vented his frustrations and felt much more satisfied. Rubbing his stomach, he wanted to take a break but ended up feeling the urge to relieve himself. Looking around to see no one was watching, he hurried to the outskirts among the flowers to relieve himself. Coming back, he felt refreshed and closed his eyes to enjoy the moment.
Just moments ago, he had seen this guy in a panic; how could he be so calm now!? Sun Thirteen glared at him, gritting his teeth, as he truly had no way to resolve this crisis. Even if there was a slight chance, it had long since slipped away!
Li Xin patted his stomach and burped. Then, with an air of authority, he said, "What are you doing standing there with your eyes wide open, subordinate Sun? This general is going out to quell the rebellion; hurry up and prepare the horses!"
At that moment, Sun Thirteen wished he could just go over and give this man a beating before kicking him into the pond in the courtyard. But since he needed something from him, he could only swallow his pride, gave a heavy thumbs-up, and turned to run out.
The carriage was already waiting at the entrance. The Soldiers outside saw the steward come out and quickly brought over the horses. Sun Thirteen nodded in thanks and waited by the carriage. Soon enough, Li Xin swaggered out with a smug expression. He jumped down from the carriage with a smile. "Sir! The carriage is ready!"
Li Xin waved his hand leisurely. "Let's go!"
Looking around for a wooden shovel but finding none, Sun Thirteen could only bow respectfully. "Yes!" Just as Li Xin jumped onto the carriage and hadn't even settled in yet, he shouted loudly, "Go!"
Li Xin immediately fell backward onto the ground but managed to sit up from the speeding carriage. After straightening his clothes, he angrily said, "Kid! This general is leaving the city to help you; if you're not satisfied, just stop the carriage!"
With no other options left, Sun Thirteen could only apologize all the way. He flattered and coaxed Li Xin, managing to keep him steady as they rushed toward the city gate.
By now, the city gate was already closed, with armed Zhao Army Soldiers lining both sides of the road. Seeing this scene confirmed for Sun Thirteen that Lightwolf Fortress had indeed been taken over by Zhao's forces.
"What do you want!?"
A sharp shout interrupted Sun Thirteen, who was analyzing the current situation. Looking up at a group of Soldiers surrounding them left him speechless. He had been so focused on resolving their issue that he overlooked any problems with leaving the city. The gate had officially been taken over by troops; even showing a badge from the general's house would be useless. If they wanted to leave the city, without a direct order from the general, it was simply impossible.
"Get out of the carriage!" The surrounding Soldiers, seeing that their counterpart couldn't respond, ordered: "The general has decreed that no unauthorized personnel may leave the city."
Sitting in the back of the carriage, Li Xin deliberately cleared his throat and lazily said, "I am Li Xin!
Hearing the person in casual clothes speak, the surrounding Soldiers immediately took a few steps back. They all knelt down and said in unison, "We greet General Li!"
Li Xin waved his hand. "Get up!"
"Yes!"
The Officer in charge of guarding the city gate ordered the Soldiers to return to their positions and bowed respectfully, saying, "General! There are too many refugees outside the city, and things have become chaotic. If we go out now, it could lead to more trouble."
Li Xin smiled slightly. "Open the gate! It's not a big deal; you can't even handle this! Do you want me to go out and settle it myself?"
"Understood!"
As the city gate opened, the suppressed refugees outside rushed in, trying to break through but were blocked by the Zhao Army Soldiers stationed outside. The Soldiers inside the city, considering the general's safety, rushed out to help control the situation.
On the other side, there was a young man! All around him were ragged Women, Children, the Elderly, and the Young!
Li Xin looked around for a long time but didn't see a single young man, so he had no choice but to ask quietly, "Thirteen! Is this what you call our Elite Cavalry? It doesn't look like it to me!"
Sun Thirteen didn't expect such a situation either and was momentarily at a loss. If he said that the elite troops were all disguised, their figures wouldn't change. Hearing Li Xin's question, he replied irritably, "So you finally decided to speak normally?"
Li Xin snorted. "This is a lesson for you so that you won't forget it as soon as you turn around. Luzi didn't punish you; that's already showing you some mercy!"
Upon hearing this, Sun Thirteen quickly nodded in acknowledgment of his mistake. "What should we do now? We can't just ignore it, right?"
If the Outside were his own Cavalry Unit at this moment, Li Xin would be completely confident in calming things down. As long as no one revealed their weapons, both the Zhao Army and Qin Army could be controlled in time. But the problem now was that many of these people outside were from the Qin State forces!
"It's over! How can we control such a scene?!"
Just as Li Xin was speaking, he saw the Zhao Officer who had spoken earlier turn back to look at him. He couldn't help but curse inwardly; was this a coup? No matter what, words once spoken are like water spilled out. If he turned back now, it would become a joke!
"Let's go out! We'll discuss with them; as for the outcome... we'll see!"
Seeing the chaotic scene outside, Sun Thirteen felt a wave of anxiety. This was not a battlefield where one could simply draw a sword after a few harsh words. The people outside were refugees, how could he scold them? Hearing Li Xin speak without confidence, he could only remind him, "My lord! If we truly go out there and lose control of the situation, it would be even more embarrassing."
Li Xin looked at the eager faces outside and suddenly felt a heaviness in his heart. With a light sigh, he said, "Let's leave the city!"
As the thick crowd of soldiers made way for the carriage, someone shouted, "General Li is leaving the city! You are forbidden to make noise!"
This shout nearly drowned out all other sounds, and the area outside the city fell silent. When the refugees saw a carriage driving out of the city gate, they all knelt down. "We greet the great general!"
Li Xin stood up while holding onto the carriage frame and saw a sea of kneeling figures before him. Noticing many elderly people with white hair in the crowd, he hurriedly jumped down to help them up. "No need for that! Are you trying to kill your juniors? Please get up, everyone!"
An elderly man whom Li Xin helped up cried out, "Great General! Please save these children! The two armies are fighting here; we have lost our homes."
The crowd that had just stood up knelt down again, pleading, "Please have mercy, my lord! We haven't eaten for several days..."
Li Xin surveyed the crowd again; there were about seven hundred people. It seemed that several villages had gathered together to escape. "Elder! Where are you all headed?"
The elder before him was over eighty years old and appeared to be the leader of a village. He wiped away tears from his wrinkled cheeks and looked back at the kneeling crowd with a deep sigh.
