Just after Meng Wu and Li Xin left, thinking they had successfully deceived someone, Li Mu strolled back from the Alley. He searched around but couldn't find the person who had just spoken to him; only the Soldiers who were moving hay were nearby. He reached out to stop one of the Brothers, bowed slightly, and asked, "Brother! Where did Old Horse Head go, who was just sitting here?"
The young Soldier did not recognize this visiting official and looked him up and down before asking, "May I ask what you need him for?"
Li Mu glanced around and admitted that the two were old friends. He had come with no other intention than to catch up with Old Horse Head.
Seeing that the man did not seem like a bad person, the young Soldier smiled and said, "You came at an unfortunate time; he just left a little while ago."
Upon hearing this, Li Mu repeatedly expressed that he had come at the wrong moment. However, he still inquired, "Could you please tell me when he might return?"
The young Soldier, who was about to go back to moving hay, replied immediately upon hearing the question, "He won't be coming back for a few days! If it's urgent, you can go to his home. But it's not very close; it's about ten miles outside the city at Majihezi. He took leave to help arrange his son's wedding, so he probably won't be back for three to five days."
Li Mu sighed quietly. Just as he was about to ask where Majihezi was located, he heard someone calling for this Brother to hurry up with his work.
“Little Wuzi! Old Horse Head just left, and you're slacking off! The brothers are all busy, and you're just standing there! Get moving!”
“Alright! Coming right away!”
Seeing the apologetic smile on this Brother, Li Mu could only thank him and say, “Sorry for bothering you, Little Wuzi. You go ahead and get back to work!” After saying that, he clasped his fists in a gesture of farewell.
Little Wuzi returned the gesture and picked up a bundle of hay to rejoin the work crew.
Knowing that staying here any longer would be pointless, Li Mu decided not to wait and headed straight back to the general's residence. In fact, he remained cautious about this matter. If Old Horse Head had been arranged in advance, then returning a second time would reveal some clues. Regardless of who handled this matter, there would likely not be many involved in confidential affairs. As long as Old Horse Head was a fake, it would be clear once he returned and asked.
However, from what the Soldiers just said, this Veteran is quite familiar with these young people. Since that’s the case... then Old Horse Head's words are undoubtedly true! Li Mu no longer doubted the information he had just received and couldn't help but quicken his pace back. When he left the Zhao Army camp, he had made a promise to the Old General who trusted him. Now, it was time to fulfill that promise!
The Soldiers busying themselves in the fodder yard confirmed that this outsider had indeed left and began to stop, placing the bundles of grass they were holding on the ground. They exchanged glances and chuckled quietly. They gathered around Little Wuzi, showering him with praise. He lied without blushing, truly a model for Us!
Li Mu was there on official business, not for leisure. It was indeed impossible for him to leave Lightwolf Fortress and head ten miles away to Majihezi; he simply didn’t have the time for that. Not to mention the rugged mountain roads, he would need to ask around just to find it. A round trip would take at least half a day, and no one could afford to waste time on such matters.
This was something Luzi had arranged with Han Yongcheng when he left. It was also a precaution against any unforeseen fires burning their own people. Unexpectedly, General Meng came over pretending to be an old man, and then by chance, Li Mu returned under false pretenses to probe the situation. The carefully arranged trap was naturally set tight.
Li Mu, who believed wholeheartedly in his assumptions, had already cast aside the true instigator, and Zhao Weiran immediately became the main target in his sights. Since he had identified his target, it was time to reel them in. Before he even reached the general's residence, he heard the sounds of joyous singing and dancing from within, which made him feel a surge of anger.
The Soldiers waiting in the Alley saw this dignitary approaching and hurriedly presented him with Official Robes and the General's Sword. Once Li Mu changed into his formal attire, the soldiers couldn’t help but praise him. Indeed, a person matched with their clothing makes all the difference; wearing this outfit made him look exceptionally spirited!
Now dressed in Official Robes, he led the Soldiers forward with purpose but was immediately blocked at the gate by Soldiers wielding their weapons. “How bold! What business do you have daring to intrude upon the general’s residence?!”
Li Mu was too lazy to conceal his true identity any longer; he revealed the General Token from the camp and shouted, “By order of General Lian for Inspection of the Military Supply Case! Withdraw at once!”
While soldiers might not recognize everyone, they certainly knew what a token looked like. Seeing this group arrive with such imposing presence, they quickly lowered their weapons and opened the gate.
With the guards at the general's residence replaced, the soldiers split into two groups and surrounded the Reception Hall tightly. Suddenly confronted by armed soldiers outside, laughter and cheer fell silent. The generals who thought there might be a mutiny looked flustered as they glanced around for an escape route that no longer existed.
Grain Supervisor Huang Fei steadied himself slightly and resolved not to become a captive. With his left hand resting on his waist where his Sword was sheathed, he slammed his right hand on the table. “How dare you! Are you trying to rebel?!”
Li Xin, who had secretly returned earlier, saw someone stand up angrily and quickly joined in to stir up trouble. He drew out his Bronze Sword from his waist and shouted loudly, “This is Zhao Country’s territory; are you all tired of living?!”
Han Yongcheng originally thought that the Qin Army hiding in the city had taken action early. He stood up, secretly contemplating drawing his sword to strike down Huang Fei beside him. Seeing Li Xin speak so recklessly stirred something within him. His hand, already gripping the Bronze Sword, did not loosen as he drew it and pointed it at the Soldiers across from him. "Bold! Outside the city, I have over a thousand Elite Cavalry. Do you dare to rebel?!"
Sima Shang recognized that the Soldiers who had just entered the city were brought in by Li Mu's orders. He immediately understood what was happening. As the two were about to leave the camp, he clearly remembered General Lian Po calling Li Mu aside to give him instructions. If he was correct, Li Mu likely held a trump card in his hands. In that case, let him show his capabilities. With that thought, he settled back down, reaching for his wine cup and gesturing towards both sides in Tension in the Air, then proceeded to pour himself a drink without further concern.
Li Mu, who had been hiding behind the Soldiers, felt greatly relieved upon hearing the words of the three generals. Their loyalty to their country and disregard for personal safety was commendable; he had somewhat misinterpreted their intentions earlier. Moreover, the Military was inherently corrupt. Being overly principled would only lead to personal loss and could even result in being ostracized from this circle. Forget it! Since there are flaws in heaven and earth, how can humans be perfect?
Having resolved to forgive Huang Fei and the others, Li Mu pushed through the crowd and stepped into the hall. He waved his hand to signal everyone else to retreat and displayed his General Token, saying, "By order of General Lian Po! Investigate the major case of Military supplies!"
Seeing the order was like seeing the Commander!
The generals in the hall quickly sheathed their swords and bowed together to express their obedience to the command.
Li Mu hurried over to help his colleagues up, seriously stating that he initially misunderstood everyone. If any offense was caused by his words, he hoped they would be magnanimous.
With such a significant order in hand, no one dared to complain. Fortunately, the humbled generals were all magnanimous individuals who did not hold grudges; thus, they exchanged pleasantries and moved past the incident.
