The Qin State indeed has its own Catapult units, but their numbers are limited. Moreover, in terms of range, the Qin State's Catapults are simply not as far-reaching as Zhao State's Thunderbolt Cars. Additionally, since most of the operations are taking place in mountainous terrain, most of the Catapults have been left in the plains around the county town. The reason for this is that not all of the Qin Army's long-range units are stationed in the county town. The closest unit to the front line at the Dan Shui River is currently assisting the Qin Army in attacking the Zhao Army's West Rampart.
When Luzi issued the return order earlier, Li Xin, who was sitting across from him, heard it clearly. Seeing Lu Zixing fidgeting with excitement, he couldn't help but ask, "Will it be on time if we temporarily redeploy some Catapults? If they really start firing at each other, we'll be at a disadvantage!"
Before the special forces team set out, they had made a three-day agreement with Old General Wang He. This means that regardless of whether this operation succeeds or fails, the Qin Army will launch a full-scale attack after the agreed period. It is clearly impossible to locate all of Zhao Army's Catapult positions within three days. Therefore, as long as they can find one of the remote Defensive Formations at a crossing, they can make significant progress.
This would allow them to tear a hole in Zhao State's Defensive Formation and continuously transport Qin Family Disciples across to the other side. Once that happens, they just need to deploy the Qin Army's Arrow Formation and push along both sides of the riverbank; even divine intervention wouldn't save Zhao Army! The subsequent victory would just be a matter of time!
Luzi looked at Li Xin, who was animatedly gesturing, and felt somewhat puzzled. "Who told you we were going to exchange fire with Catapults? Such a big matter, how come I didn't receive any information? Besides, even if we had the coordinates of their positions now, we couldn't guarantee that we'd take out all their Catapults in one go!"
Li Xin sensed there was more to his words and hurriedly sat down beside him. Although Luzi hadn't revealed the action plan, she quickly figured it out. If this reconnaissance mission was merely to bring back the coordinates of Zhao Army's Catapult units, then they could have simply sent scouts across to swim over. It could also be inferred that this secret operation was likely not just about locating their heavy weapons hideouts!
With this deduction forming in his mind, Li Xin suddenly felt that something was amiss! He had witnessed firsthand how well-defended Zhao State's long-range weapon positions were; he wouldn't say they were as secure as a fortress, but they were close enough. Although it was still unclear what the exact composition of their defense forces was, conservatively estimating would put it at several thousand men at least.
Moreover, Zhao Army's main forces were scattered between Dan Shui River and their Catapult positions. If they discovered a small group of Qin Army causing destruction behind their lines, they would immediately send troops to encircle them. At that point, searching every nook and cranny would make it impossible to hide!
Another critical issue that couldn't be ignored was that there were only about a dozen people on their side. If they really intended to storm into the long-range weapon positions, it would be akin to throwing eggs against a rock.
"General's intention isn't to have us attack Zhao Army's long-range projection positions directly with this small number of people, right?"
The difference between scouts and Special Forces Units lies in that scouts are only responsible for gathering enemy intelligence and reporting it accurately, while Special Forces Units are tasked with reconnaissance and sabotage. If this mission was merely for reconnaissance purposes, then this new type of unit being established would lose its significance! Luzi picked up a Ceramic Bowl to sip some water and clear his throat before deliberately concealing his true intentions by saying, "You're right! That is indeed our purpose for this trip!"
Upon hearing this confirmation, Li Xin swallowed hard. "General must think this through! Our entire group only adds up to about a dozen people; we don't even have as many members as one crew responsible for a Thunderbolt Car. Charging into their long-range projection positions to cause destruction—taking out even two of their Catapults would depend on luck!"
As they spoke, a delicious aroma of food wafted in from outside the door. Luzi, who had just filled his stomach with a piece of flatbread, suddenly felt hungry again. He sniffed a few times and swallowed hard to suppress his cravings. "It doesn't matter how many people there are! It's not about the numbers, but the quality! Are you afraid or something?!"
Is there an inherent connection between assessing the situation and fear?
Li Xin immediately clarified that he wasn't suggesting this idea out of fear, but rather because even if all these people fought with all their might, it might not be enough to accomplish such a daunting task! If one truly believed that this small group could achieve such a feat, it would be quite an unrealistic notion!
Luzi smiled slightly and stood up, saying, "As long as it's not out of fear, then the rest is not an issue! Alright! Let's eat first. Once General Wang Jian returns, we can discuss our action plan."
...
Li Mu soon arrived at the battlefield where the Soldiers had been attacked. Seeing that not a single person remained inside made him grit his teeth in anger. He quickly assessed the retreating direction of the Qin Army and, without taking a break, pursued them overnight with Sima Shang. By Dawn, they still hadn't caught up with this small infiltrating group of Qin Army, and while feeling frustrated, he noticed his own Supply Team swaggering down the mountain path. Recognizing one of the leading generals, he and Sima Shang jumped off their mounts to clear the way for the supply convoy.
Huang Fei also spotted a military unit appearing on the hillside; however, judging by the flags, they seemed to be from his side. As he approached, he realized it was none other than his second brother Li Mu and fourth brother Sima Shang. He quickly dismounted and laughed, "I didn't expect to see my brothers again; what a fortunate coincidence amidst misfortune!"
Huang Fei had reason for this statement; it wasn't just casual politeness. Ever since the overwhelming Qin Army launched a full-scale attack in the Shangdang Region, the various units of the Zhao Army had been scattered and disorganized. Generals couldn't find their soldiers, and Soldiers couldn't locate their commanders. The mountainous plains were filled with large and small groups of fleeing troops, all lamenting their fate.
There had been several attempts to organize large-scale counterattacks, but the results were predictable. Initially thinking that the Qin Army's offensive was so fierce that it would lead to chaos on their side, they soon discovered that the enemy could form solid formations for effective defensive attacks at any time.
The most deadly aspect was the Qin State's Crossbow Arrow Formation, whose long-range concentrated fire completely disregarded shooting accuracy issues. Arrows fell like rain, ignoring the shields used by Zhao Soldiers. If they were far enough away, they could even pierce through defensive shields directly. This was a nightmare for the Cavalry Unit, as a single charge could wipe them out!
Due to the rapid assault by the Qin Army, many from the Zhao Army had no choice but to abandon their original Defensive Formation. However, Huang Fei, who was responsible for delivering supplies to frontline units, was unaware of this situation. Without any notification, he continued following his map to deliver supplies to the defensive forces.
It wasn't until the Supply Team reached their destination that they discovered nothing but dead bodies and broken weapons on the ground where the defensive formation had been. Just as they realized something was wrong and planned to leave in haste, they suddenly noticed dust rising ahead. By the time everyone reacted, the Cavalry Unit of the Qin Army had already approached menacingly.
