Before them lay a strange sight; on the vast expanse of yellow sand, a dazzling beam of light, stretching a thousand feet long, swayed back and forth. The beam sometimes appeared azure, sometimes teal, its diameter fluctuating between the size of a house and that of a small water tank. It spanned the sky, radiating an incredibly beautiful glow.
Li Hong and Heavenly Torch stared in astonishment. What was this thing?
However, the two soon sensed a unique life force emanating from the beam. This light beam was alive!
The beam quickly noticed them as well. As if in shock, it suddenly halted, standing upright on the desert. After a brief moment, it reacted, bizarrely transforming into a thin thread and cautiously reaching out toward the two.
Li Hong Tian Zhu found it amusing and did not move.
The beam seemed to gain courage, becoming thinner as it approached. In an instant, it changed its demeanor and ensnared Li Hong and Heavenly Torch within a transparent circle of light. Gradually, this circle thickened as if the beam was finally revealing its true form, attempting to trap the two.
Li Hong Tian Zhu exchanged glances, both raising an eyebrow.
Li Hong sneered coldly. "Looking for death!" After a moment's thought, he unleashed a True Fire from his palm.
This True Fire danced in Li Hong's smooth palm, only the size of a grain of rice but radiating extreme heat that distorted the surrounding scenery.
The beam trembled in fear, releasing its grip on Li Hong Tian Zhu and swiftly retreating into the sky.
"Leave it to me!" Heavenly Torch revealed his true form, transforming into a massive fire dragon that chased after it with blazing flames.
The beam seemed to glance back in fright; this motion resembled turning around. However, as a clear and transparent column of light, it appeared even more terrified and fled rapidly. Despite Heavenly Torch's relentless pursuit, it continued to escape further away.
Li Hong summoned his escape light; with a flash of golden light, he arrived ahead of the beam and blocked its path!
The beam was greatly alarmed and attempted to turn back to flee but found Heavenly Torch had already caught up behind it. With an obstacle in front and pursuers behind, the beam hesitated for a moment before diving headfirst into the yellow sand. The surface barely stirred as it burrowed in; in just moments, half of its "body" had vanished.
Li Hong swiftly summoned the Eight Formation Flag. The Eight Formation Flag multiplied from one to ten, then to one hundred and eventually to one thousand, forming a three-dimensional Eight Formation Diagram that firmly trapped the beam.
The beam became even more frightened, desperately writhing in an attempt to escape the formation but to no avail!
Soon after, Li Hong heard a trembling male voice in his ear: "Great Immortal, wuwuwu... please spare me! I mean no harm; I was just playing here. You came looking for me... wuwuwu... spare my life! Don't eat me..."
"Eat you?" Li Hong smiled and said, "You're just a transparent light pillar. Even if I feel faint in my mouth, it's still meat. How could I eat a transparent light pillar?"
Seeing Li Hong smile, the light pillar seemed to feel a bit relieved. The timid male voice did not continue speaking, but Li Hong noticed that the now human-shaped Heavenly Torch was tightly frowning, as if his brows were about to knot together. It turned out that this light pillar began to plead with Heavenly Torch as soon as Li Hong eased up.
The more Heavenly Torch listened, the more his brows furrowed until he could no longer hold back and shouted angrily, "Enough! You are a dragon, how can you be so shameless? Show yourself, or I will really eat you!"
The light pillar trembled violently and squirmed uncomfortably. However, Heavenly Torch transmitted a message to Li Hong: "It turns out he is a Demon Fairy. Speaking of which, he is part of our dragon lineage; he is a Candle Dragon who ascended. He has been hiding in this Desert for tens of thousands of years and has long been scared out of his wits. Even if he reveals himself, don't retract the Eight Formation Flag, or he might just turn around and run."
Candle Dragon? This is an ancient Heavenly Born Divine Beast known for its ability to manipulate light and natural forces. No wonder it could transform into a light pillar and move at incredible speed.
Li Hong nodded.
Under Heavenly Torch's continuous commands, the light pillar began to shrink and elongate, gradually revealing a human form.
Li Hong stared at the figure, unable to believe that as an Ancient God beast and part of the Candle Dragon lineage, it could transform into such a pitiful shape.
According to him, his name was Aurora. The name corresponded well with the Candle Dragon lineage, but the form he took was that of a frail old man with a face full of wrinkles. He looked at Li Hong Tian Zhu with watery deep blue eyes filled with tears, his thin lips trembling, appearing pitiful and timid.
His clothing was even stranger, resembling that of a beggar—tattered rags in shades of blue and gray. It should be noted that if he wanted to, he could transform into robes adorned with purple and gold; yet he chose to appear in these ragged clothes, raising serious doubts about his sense of aesthetics.
He fidgeted with his hands as if trying to bow to Li Hong Tian Zhu while also tugging at his tattered clothing, trembling all over and at a loss for what to do.
Li Hong suspected that this appearance was deliberately feigned to take advantage of him and Heavenly Torch's guard down in order to escape. Frowning, he said, "No one here wants to harm you; you can relax. We are just asking for directions..."
At this point, he was interrupted by Heavenly Torch who suddenly coughed loudly: "It's for you to lead the way! If you dare refuse, I swear I'll take you down today!"
Li Hong couldn't help but look at Heavenly Torch; he usually valued his own kin highly. Why would he be so fierce toward this seemingly pitiful Candle Dragon? However, there must be some deeper meaning behind Heavenly Torch's actions. So Li Hong fell silent.
Aurora trembled even more and tearfully said, "Please spare me; I don’t know the way at all. How can I lead you?"
"Nonsense! Do you think I don’t know? You’ve survived in such a dangerous False Immortal Realm; how could you not know the way? Be sensible and lead us properly; otherwise, I will definitely eat you!" Heavenly Torch shouted fiercely and arrogantly.
Tears rolled down Aurora's clothes, and just when Li Hong thought he would definitely refuse, the thin old man spoke in a voice as light as a mosquito's whisper, "Please don't be angry, esteemed ones. I will lead the way. Please remove this treasure." He pointed at the Eight Formation Flag that was trapping him.
Li Hong nodded and put away the Eight Formation Flag, but intentionally or not, he stepped forward, positioning himself right behind Heavenly Torch, effectively trapping the old man between them.
Aurora lowered his head in fear and said, "I wouldn't dare to escape, esteemed ones, please rest assured." Tears continued to fall from his eyes like pearls from a broken string.
As Li Hong was about to take a step forward, he inadvertently looked down and was surprised to exclaim. There, where Aurora stood, were hundreds of shimmering blue-green pearls rolling on the sandy ground, looking quite beautiful. Picking one up, he discovered it was an extremely rare deep blue pearl with a faint aura of Aurora's Candle Dragon, possessing Extreme Yin properties and shining brilliantly.
Could it be? Li Hong glanced at Aurora; he had not yet stopped crying, but the tears had diminished significantly. Each tear that fell to the ground was now a pearl the size of a grain of rice, identical to those scattered around.
Li Hong laughed heartily, "You, a man, have learned from that Sharkman beauty how to turn tears into pearls!"
Upon hearing this, Aurora's tears fell again in torrents, trembling and unable to speak.
Li Hong chuckled, "Don't waste them! You might be able to exchange them for some fine wine in the mortal realm!" With a sweep of his hands, he collected all the blue-green pearls that had fallen on the ground into his Cosmic Bag. Then he patted Aurora on the shoulder and teased, "I say, my friend, no wonder you love to cry; it turns out there are such rich benefits to weeping!"
"Indeed! This old man Aurora must have lived for over a hundred thousand years; that's why his tears can condense into these Extreme Yin Dark Jade Pearls," Heavenly Torch also laughed heartily.
Dark Jade Pearl? Li Hong felt like he had heard of this before but didn't dwell on it at that moment. The two laughed heartily as they pulled the sobbing Aurora into the sky.
Along the way, as Aurora gradually stopped crying, Li Hong began to inquire about his background. Although Aurora was timid as a mouse, he clearly wasn't foolish; his speech was vague and evasive. Li Hong didn't expose him but noticed that as they flew toward the direction indicated by Aurora, a glow began to appear on his gaunt face, and there was gradually a hint of cunning pride in his eyes.
Li Hong glanced at him knowingly; he feared that Aurora might have some accomplices and was currently seeking them out.
This is even better! Anyone who could survive in the False Immortal Realm—be they human immortals or Demon Fairies—were not ordinary beings. They would likely be eager to escape this desolate place and could provide additional support.
Heavenly Torch also sensed something off about Aurora and communicated with Li Hong. After discussing it briefly, they both shared a knowing smile.
After flying around for more than ten hours, just as Li Hong pretended to become angry and scolded him, both their expressions changed. Aurora's expression became even more dramatic as he began to cry again; large tears transformed into Dark Jade Pearls rolling down. He lamented aloud without realizing it: "Impossible! Who would dare fight against my brother Qilin! Woe is me! It must be immortals coming to kill us; please help me escape! I don't want to die..."
Before he could finish speaking, Li Hong slapped him on the head; this time he was genuinely angry and shouted, "Shut up! Be quiet!"
Aurora was startled, and her tears were abruptly stopped.
Li Hong's Divine Consciousness was constantly released, and just a moment later, he was overjoyed, shouting, "Ling Yanzi! It's Ling Yanzi!"
"Do you know him? Isn't he a celestial being from the Celestial Realm?" Aurora was taken aback and began to cry heavily again, "They're dead, they're dead! How many accomplices do these two villains have? Even Tianqi Zi has been discovered by them, sob sob sob..."
Li Hong, however, was quite impatient. He said to Heavenly Torch, "Keep an eye on him; I'll go take a look." After finishing his words, he transformed into a beam of golden light and swiftly flew away.
Even from a thousand miles away, Li Hong came to a halt. On the Desert, dust rose into the sky like a giant mushroom. Within the mushroom-shaped dust cloud were two figures flying rapidly, both stopping at the slightest touch. One of the figures was Ling Yanzi in dark attire. The other was a roaring beast figure of dark green color, with four legs treading the wind and its body shimmering with metallic luster. Upon closer inspection, it was covered in scales the size of teacups, with a deer body, cow tail, single horn, and four hooves—an ancient auspicious beast known as the Qilin.
Although the Qilin and Ling Yanzi were in fierce combat, both noticed someone approaching at the same time and instinctively retreated from each other.
Ling Yanzi was immediately overjoyed and shouted, "Chu Hongzi, come help me!"
The Qilin roared in anger; Ling Yanzi thought it was about to charge at him. Just as he focused on facing the enemy, the Qilin merely feigned an attack and turned to flee.
There was no way he could let it escape! Heavenly Torch had already seen the opportunity and seized Aurora by the throat in mid-air, shouting, "Qilin brother, hold on! If you don't want your old friend to die, let's all stop fighting and sit down for a good chat. What do you say?"
The Qilin had already flown over a hundred miles when it heard this and forcefully turned its head. Its bright copper bell-like eyes looked at Heavenly Torch and immediately spotted Aurora in his hand, crying pitifully.
