The next morning, in the classroom, Chen Haoxuan and Chen Yina were happily chatting when they were interrupted. The door of Class Eight was kicked open, and Yang Lin walked in with his hands in his pockets, swaggering up to the podium. He was followed by five students who clearly looked like delinquents, their demeanor and expressions revealing their identities.
Suddenly, Yang Lin raised his hand high and slammed it down on the podium with a loud clap, as if he were swatting a fly.
“Listen up! If anyone dares to bully Chen Haoxuan from now on, don’t blame me for being ruthless, because Chen Haoxuan is my brother. Did you hear that?” Yang Lin shouted arrogantly.
No one responded; there was complete silence. New City University had a few notorious troublemakers, and Yang Lin was one of them. Although Yang Lin didn’t have as many followers as Zhu Tian, his few subordinates were all from the Karate Club, making it easy for them to take on multiple opponents. Even Zhu Tian would have to speak respectfully in front of Yang Lin.
After finishing his declaration, Yang Lin walked over to Chen Haoxuan with his subordinates. He plopped down next to Chen Haoxuan and patted him on the shoulder with a grin, saying, “Brother, good morning!”
Chen Haoxuan replied helplessly, “Please don’t do this again. You can embarrass yourself all you want, but don’t drag me into it!”
“Brother, that’s where you’re wrong. I’m doing this to protect you! Don’t worry; I’ve already warned everyone in your class. They won’t dare bully you anymore,” Yang Lin said seriously.
“Alright, alright! You’ve said what you needed to say; you can go back now,” Chen Haoxuan told Yang Lin.
“Go back? Why would I do that? I’m staying here for class with you to strengthen our bond! Otherwise, you’ll say we’re not close enough,” Yang Lin replied, then turned to his subordinates and said, “You guys can leave now!”
After Yang Lin’s subordinates left, he curiously asked Chen Haoxuan, “Brother, doesn’t Zhou Kexin like you? Why don’t you go keep her company? She’s sitting over there all alone; it must be lonely!”
Realizing that Yang Lin was here to inquire about his relationship with Zhou Kexin, Chen Haoxuan responded, “I don’t like her; why should I sit with her? If you feel sorry for her, why don’t you go keep her company? Who knows? She might be so touched that she’d fall for you.”
“If she liked me, I wouldn’t just sit with her; I’d do anything for her because she’s a rare beauty. Brother! Listen to me: cherish what you have!” Yang Lin sighed.
Yang Lin was right; Zhou Kexin was indeed very pitiful. She sat alone at the back of the classroom, on the right side, while Chen Haoxuan and his friends were on the left. At least they had three people to discuss things with and alleviate their boredom, but Zhou Kexin was all by herself, with no one around her.
Now, Zhou Kexin faced a dilemma. She arrived in class and took her usual seat from yesterday, only to find a large pile of Lollipops in her drawer. At first, she was happy, thinking they were a gift from Chen Haoxuan. However, when she opened the envelope placed on top of the Lollipops, her smile instantly vanished. These were not from Chen Haoxuan; they were gifts from her admirers.
With so many envelopes in the drawer, there might be one from Chen Haoxuan. Zhou Kexin eagerly opened each envelope without looking at the contents, only checking the signatures at the end of the letter. After going through all the envelopes, she realized none were from Chen Haoxuan, and her heart sank. What should she do with all these Lollipops? Throw them away or give them to someone else? Forget it; she decided to throw them away.
Zhou Kexin took all the books out of her bag and stuffed the Lollipops inside before hefting her heavy bag and walking toward the classroom door. As she passed by a girl who used to sit next to her and had an exciting personality, that girl suddenly asked, "Zhou Kexin, class is about to start! Are you still going out?"
"I don't even know who sent these Lollipops. What era is it that people are still giving out Lollipops? I'm planning to toss them into the trash can at the classroom door," Zhou Kexin complained.
Nearby, He Haoming overheard Zhou Kexin's words and couldn't help but speak up: "Zhou Kexin, didn't you used to like eating Lollipops? Why would you throw away such nice ones?" Some of those Lollipops were also from him. Like everyone else, he had seen how Zhou Kexin cried yesterday; just one Lollipop from Chen Haoxuan had made her stop crying. This proved something—Zhou Kexin really liked eating Lollipops.
"When did I say I liked eating Lollipops?" Zhou Kexin shot He Haoming a glare and replied irritably.
"Yesterday, when Chen Haoxuan gave you one, you enjoyed it so much," He Haoming asked with a puzzled expression.
"What he gave me was worth RMB each; how could it not taste good? Besides, I like Chen Haoxuan, so no matter what he gives me to eat, I will think it tastes great. As for what you guys gave me—huh! It's obviously cheap stuff," Zhou Kexin said with a smile when mentioning Chen Haoxuan but turned angry when talking about He Haoming and his friends. This was just the difference between people.
Knowing the truth, Chen Haoxuan and Chen Yina leaned over their desks and laughed uncontrollably. A fifty-cent Lollipop being claimed as RMB —only Zhou Kexin would believe that.
"What are you guys laughing about? Can you tell me?" Yang Lin asked curiously.
"I'll tell you, but you can't spread it around," Chen Haoxuan said with a grin. He felt it wasn't really an important secret and didn't mind sharing it with Yang Lin.
"Actually, the Lollipop I gave her yesterday was only fifty cents each. I told her it was RMB, and I didn't expect her to actually believe it, hehehe..." Chen Haoxuan said to Yang Lin with a smile.
"Hahaha... Brother, I finally see you clearly now. It turns out you are a hidden Master of Romance, even deceiving beauties like Zhou Kexin," Yang Lin laughed.
"The Lollipops that He Haoming and the others gave her were all some expensive ones. It would be a waste to throw them away. Just wait, I'm going over there," Chen Haoxuan said as he stood up and walked toward Zhou Kexin.
Zhou Kexin was still chatting with another girl and didn't even notice when Chen Haoxuan approached her from behind. "Zhou Kexin," Chen Haoxuan suddenly called out from behind her.
Zhou Kexin turned around, and since she was too close to Chen Haoxuan, she bumped right into his arms when she turned. Chen Haoxuan quickly wrapped his arms around her waist to prevent her from falling, and their posture was incredibly warm. "Are you okay?" Chen Haoxuan asked with a smile.
"I'm—I'm fine," Zhou Kexin stammered, her cheeks flushed. Her heart raced as she felt the warmth in Chen Haoxuan's embrace, a strange sensation coursing through her.
