In the following days, Chen Haoxuan was busy carving every day. He usually got up at six in the morning and worked until midnight. His efforts paid off; he spent four days carving 108 Arhats, each with a unique appearance—some lying down, some sitting. Each Arhat was carved by Chen Haoxuan to be lifelike. Additionally, he sculpted a large Water Stone into a pagoda, which was already impressive as a semi-finished product. If only Chen Haoxuan could complete it!
On the morning of July 8th, Chen Haoxuan went out to buy groceries, driving his BMW to the market. While shopping, he inadvertently heard a familiar voice that seemed to be scolding someone. Curious, Chen Haoxuan searched for the owner of the voice. When he found them, his brows furrowed involuntarily.
Why did Chen Haoxuan have such an expression? It was a look that usually appeared when one disliked someone. It turned out that the person he saw was Li Xin, who had abandoned him a few years ago. He saw Li Xin arguing fiercely with Zhu Tian, though he couldn't tell what had happened between them.
"Give me back my wallet quickly, or I'll call the police!" Li Xin shouted at Zhu Tian.
"You damn b*tch, which eye of yours saw me steal your wallet? If you keep this up, I won't hold back anymore! Let go of me!" Zhu Tian yelled back at Li Xin. She had grabbed his shirt, preventing him from escaping. If Li Xin weren't a woman, he would have taught her a lesson.
"Help! Someone's stealing! Come quickly..." Li Xin clung tightly to Zhu Tian's shirt and kept shouting like a madwoman. It was her own fault that her wallet was stolen; she always flaunted the cash inside whenever she bought something, as if afraid no one could see it.
Zhu Tian was drawn in by Li Xin's display. Seeing that her wallet contained quite a bit of money, he had ill intentions. He instructed his accomplice to bump into Li Xin deliberately while he swiftly snatched the wallet as she turned around. However, Zhu Tian didn't expect Li Xin to react so quickly; when he grabbed her wallet and tried to run away, she caught hold of his shirt.
Zhu Tian then handed the wallet to his accomplice and told him to take it away so that Li Xin couldn't pin him as the thief. This method was very familiar to Zhu Tian since he often engaged in such activities.
"Do you believe I will really hit you?" Zhu Tian said angrily. In the past, even if he got caught stealing, others would choose to pay him off out of fear. But today was different; no matter how much he cursed at the woman holding onto his clothes, she refused to let go, seemingly determined to wait until the police arrived.
Although Li Xin was a woman, she was no ordinary one. In her youth, she had been a hot girl who had associated with many gangsters and seen more of the world than Zhu Tian had. Therefore, she wasn't afraid of him and intended to hold on until the police came. In fact, her stubbornness stemmed from desperation; she had come to New City by bus to buy clothes and hoped to pick up some lobsters on the way back for a treat. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the market, her wallet was stolen. All her money was in that wallet—now gone—leaving her without enough for a bus ticket home.
"This is your own doing," Zhu Tian cursed angrily before raising his hand and slapping Li Xin across the face with a loud smack.
Li Xin held onto Zhu Tian's shirt with her right hand while covering her slapped cheek with her left. Suddenly, she seemed to go mad and swung both hands wildly at Zhu Tian. Her claws were fierce; she scratched his face until it bled and even managed to tear off several buttons from his shirt.
Zhu Tian was not a good person; when he got angry, he was someone who would turn against anyone. When Li Xin scratched his self-proclaimed handsome face, how could he still consider himself handsome? He no longer cared about women and treated Li Xin as if she were a man, attacking her with punches and kicks.
Li Xin was good at cursing, but when it came to fighting, she had no skills at all. As soon as Zhu Tian resisted, she was knocked down by him.
Although Li Xin had abandoned Chen Haoxuan, she was still his biological mother. No matter how much Chen Haoxuan hated her, he couldn't bring himself to ignore her completely. He stepped out from the crowd, and his appearance terrified Zhu Tian. Seeing Chen Haoxuan was like seeing a ghost; he screamed and turned to flee. The first time, he had nearly been killed by Chen Haoxuan with a brick, and the second time, in front of many students, he had been forced to kneel. These two lessons left a lasting impression on him; he would rather face the King of Hell than see Chen Haoxuan again—at least the King of Hell would be a bit gentler.
Li Xin lay on the ground, flailing her limbs desperately, unaware that Zhu Tian had already run away.
Out of kindness, Chen Haoxuan called out to Li Xin, "The person who stole your wallet has already run away."
Hearing his voice, Li Xin opened her eyes. She got up and scanned her surroundings, realizing that the thief was gone. Upon seeing Chen Haoxuan, she pointed at him and yelled, "You ungrateful child! You didn't help your mother when she was being attacked, and you didn't even chase after the thief who stole my wallet! I raised you for nothing..."
It seemed that Li Xin wanted to vent all her anger on Chen Haoxuan.
Chen Haoxuan was speechless. He had tried to help her but received such a response in return. His feelings were hurt once again by Li Xin; the bond of family felt more distant than ever.
"You young man, how can you be like this? Your mother is being attacked and you don't come to her rescue? You have no conscience! Look at you; you're strong and healthy, yet you lack the courage to protect your mother!" The onlookers began to criticize Chen Haoxuan after hearing Li Xin's words.
If Zhu Tian were still around, these citizens would not have acted this way because they feared Zhu Tian's ruthless retaliation. Now that Zhu Tian had fled, the gentle-looking Chen Haoxuan appeared to be an obedient child, so they felt safe criticizing him without fear. Little did they know that Zhu Tian's sudden panic and escape were due to Chen Haoxuan's presence!
"I'm not her son," Chen Haoxuan coldly told the onlookers.
"Just because you say you're not doesn't mean you're not! You are her biological son; whether you acknowledge her or not, you are still her child. You are so unfilial! How can someone who looks so gentle be so heartless..." The crowd continued to attack Chen Haoxuan with various accusations.
