"Boss Chen, don't worry, we will definitely work hard. If we embarrass you again next time, you won't need to chase us away; we'll pack up and leave on our own," Li Jun said seriously to Chen Haoxuan.
"Well, that's good," Chen Haoxuan nodded in satisfaction.
As Chen Haoxuan walked into the house, he saw that it had been renovated. It felt like returning to his old home, the one from Future Century. Chen Haoxuan sighed, "Now this feels like a home!"
"Boss Chen, many villagers from Chen Family Village want to come and visit your house, but we've stopped them. We don't know what your thoughts are on this," Li Jun respectfully said to Chen Haoxuan. They were now acting as both security and caretakers, needing to look after Chen Haoxuan's home and keep it clean.
"They're all from the same village; it would clearly be rude not to let them in. How about this? You two arrange a time to gather those who want to see my house, and then only allow five villagers in at a time. One of you should accompany them to prevent any damage to the furniture," Chen Haoxuan said.
"Understood, Boss Chen," Li Jun replied.
"You all go about your business! Don't worry about me," Chen Haoxuan told Li Jun and the others.
After taking a tour around his home, Chen Haoxuan went outside. He strolled through Chen Family Village, and every villager he met asked if he was back to purchase something. The villagers had tasted the benefits of his visits; whenever they saw him return, he would usually buy some items, allowing them to earn some pocket money. Unfortunately, this time Chen Haoxuan was not looking to buy anything.
Chen Haoxuan walked around the entire Chen Family Village but did not see any of his family members. In the past, he would often find them boasting or showing off when he came out. He wondered if it was because of him that they felt embarrassed to come out.
Later, Chen Haoxuan visited the fish pond he had contracted. The fish pond was located in the mountains, so he had to hike up. After half an hour of walking, he reached the fish pond and shouted loudly, "Root Uncle, are you there?" His voice echoed throughout the mountains.
"Yes, I'm here, Xuan—wait for me a moment; I'll be right there," came a voice from a corner of the mountain. Chen Shugen, a resident of Chen Family Village who was over forty years old today, was hired by Chen Haoxuan to help him raise fish.
Chen Haoxuan lit a cigar and sat by the fish pond smoking. After a while, Chen Shugen emerged from the bushes carrying a bundle of dry firewood. He placed the collected firewood on the ground and walked over to Chen Haoxuan, asking, "Xuan, is there something you need?"
Chen Haoxuan took out a cigar and handed it to Chen Shugen, who quickly waved his hand and said, "You should smoke it! I can't afford such a high-end item; I can just stick to loose tobacco." The most expensive cigarette Chen Shugen had ever smoked was the Red Rose King. He had seen cigars on television but had never seen anyone smoke one in person, except for Chen Haoxuan.
"It's fine, I don't want your money—what are you afraid of? Just try one and see what a cigar tastes like," Chen Haoxuan said with a smile.
"Well—then I won't be polite," Chen Shugen replied happily as he accepted the cigar from Chen Haoxuan. He had wanted to smoke one for a long time since he was quite the smoker, but unfortunately, cigars were too expensive. Even the cheaper ones cost dozens of dollars, and if he wanted to buy something like what Chen Haoxuan had, it would cost at least a thousand dollars per box. It could be said that Chen Haoxuan wasn't just smoking; he was burning money.
Excitedly, Chen Shugen lit the cigar. He took a deep puff and slowly exhaled a wisp of light blue smoke, the wonderful aroma swirling in the air, quite enticing. "No wonder it's a cigar; it really tastes good," Chen Shugen said with his eyes squinted, looking very much in enjoyment.
"I still have half a box left; if you like it, I'll give it to you!" Chen Haoxuan said as he pulled out the box containing half a dozen cigars and handed it to Chen Shugen. A half box of cigars could win someone's heart, and Chen Haoxuan knew he would only gain from this.
"Xuan, that's too much! Just giving me one is enough; how can I take all of these? How much is this worth?" Chen Shugen waved his hands in refusal. He was grateful to Chen Haoxuan for inviting him to take care of the fish and paying him several thousand each month, so he didn't want to take more from him for fear that Chen Haoxuan would think he was greedy.
"I have plenty more at home! Don't be polite with me; here, take it," Chen Haoxuan insisted as he pushed the cigar box into Chen Shugen's hands.
With Chen Haoxuan being so insistent, Chen Shugen felt embarrassed to refuse his kindness any longer. He silently vowed to help Chen Haoxuan take good care of the fish and earn more money for him in return. He asked Chen Haoxuan, "Xuan, you haven't come back since the day you released the fish fry; did you come all this way to Fish Pond today because something happened?"
"Nothing much; I just wanted to see how the fish are doing," Chen Haoxuan replied with a smile.
"The fish I've raised by the roots will definitely be fine! Just wait—I’ll go get some fish feed so you can see them when I feed them," Chen Shugen said as he stood up and walked toward a small shed by the mountain. That shed was where he currently lived. He not only needed to raise fish but also had to guard the Fish Pond to prevent anyone from stealing them.
Soon, Chen Shugen came out carrying a bag of fish feed. He tossed handfuls of it into the Fish Pond, causing ripples in the water. Shortly after, many small fish surfaced to eat the feed.
"Xuan, look at these fish; haven't they grown a lot? You know, besides feeding them fish feed every day, I also go down the mountain to cut grass for them!" Chen Shugen said proudly.
"I really didn't ask the wrong person, Root Uncle. If you help me take good care of the fish, and by the end of the year, they all weigh several pounds, I will give you a big bonus. I, Chen Haoxuan, keep my word," Chen Haoxuan said seriously.
"Xuan, don't worry. I will definitely help you raise the fish well," Chen Shugen replied happily. His family wasn't well-off, and with children in school, he had no other skills besides fish farming. His wife was uneducated and could only work in the fields, so he really needed this job that Chen Haoxuan offered him.
"I believe in you. Do your best," Chen Haoxuan said with a smile.
Chen Haoxuan spent some time by the Fish Pond discussing fish farming techniques with Chen Shugen. After chatting for about an hour, he left, realizing it was already mealtime. To avoid making Chen Yina and the others wait for him, he needed to hurry back.
Going up the mountain was difficult, but coming down was quick. On his way down, Chen Haoxuan used parkour techniques; he felt like a free little bird flying around the mountain, feeling very carefree.
