On the rooftop, Han Yuanchan curiously asked, "Why are they all standing still?"
"I don't know what they're doing. They're not usually like this; it's the first time I've seen them act this way!" Chen Yina replied, puzzled.
"I've seen military movies where soldiers often stand still under the sun to test their endurance," Jiang Xianghan said.
"How long do they have to stand?" Han Yuanchan asked, intrigued.
"I don't know. Why don't we just wait here for them? It doesn't matter if we go back early; we'll reach New City soon anyway. The scenery here is so nice; it's good to enjoy it a bit," Jiang Xianghan said happily while sitting on a stone bench in the pavilion.
"I'll go get some fruit, snacks, and red wine. Let's have a couple of drinks together," Chen Yina offered enthusiastically.
"Sounds great!" Jiang Xianghan agreed.
Han Yuanchan was carrying her child, who had already fallen asleep. Otherwise, she wouldn't have dared to bring her child to the rooftop. Honestly, she loved standing there and looking at the scenery. From that vantage point, she could see the villagers' Tile Houses all around, which had a rustic charm due to their age. In the distance were towering buildings, and she could also see the large river flowing through Chen Family Village; it was truly beautiful.
Chen Yina had her brother bring a lot of delicious snacks up to the pavilion, and the group chatted excitedly.
Upstairs was lively, while downstairs was quiet. Chen Haoxuan and his friends had already been sweating profusely under the sun, each of them standing straight as no one wanted to lose to the others.
Half an hour passed, and Chen Haoxuan and his friends were still standing still. Another half hour went by, and they remained upright. Two hours later, Lin Hao and his group began to sway uncontrollably.
Chen Haoxuan realized they were nearing their limit. Maintaining one position for so long could easily lead to nerve strain and fainting. He noticed Yang Lin swaying the most and suspected that if Yang Lin stood for another ten minutes, he would faint. If that happened, it would be up to him to take responsibility; it would be better to let him rest under the eaves instead.
"Yang Lin, go rest under the eaves," Chen Haoxuan called out loudly.
Yang Lin didn't want to persist any longer; he was really exhausted now, feeling numb all over with a dizzy head. Hearing Chen Haoxuan's words made him happy as he turned around and walked toward the dormitory with a swaying gait that made Chen Haoxuan wonder if Yang Lin had been drinking before training.
Yang Lin reached the dormitory door and plopped down at the entrance, leaning against the wall while gasping for breath.
When Yang Lin left, no one turned to look at him except for Chen Haoxuan. Although he glanced over, he didn't turn his head fully or change his speech pattern.
Meanwhile, Jiang Xianghan spoke up from the rooftop: "It's already been two hours; why are they still standing? Do they plan to stand until sunset?"
Chen Feng chimed in, "Brother Xuan and his friends often challenge each other; they're definitely competing now to see whose endurance is stronger and who can stand still under the sun for longer."
"They really don't understand why they are trying so hard!" Han Yuanchan sighed.
"A man who understands is common; a man who doesn't is rare," Jiang Xianghan replied.
Lin Hao noticed that they were all soaked through, their clothes dripping with water.
Chen Haoxuan kept calling out to those who were about to give up, sending them to rest under the eaves.
Three hours later, only Chen Haoxuan, Lin Hao, Jiang Dong, and Zhang Tiezhu remained.
"Keep going; let me see how strong your perseverance is," Chen Haoxuan said to Lin Hao and the others.
"We won't be worse than you," Lin Hao replied confidently.
On the rooftop, Jiang Xianghan remarked, "If I had to stand still for three minutes, I would feel uncomfortable. Yet they have stood for three hours, drenched in sweat. The perseverance of these men is truly impressive."
"Who do you think will win in the end?" Chen Yina asked.
"I think it will be that big guy, while Xuan himself admits he is not in good shape," Jiang Xianghan said.
"I believe Xuan will definitely win," Han Yuanchan said, clasping her hands together as if praying for Chen Haoxuan.
At the four-hour mark, Lin Hao and the others began to faint one by one. Chen Haoxuan was no exception; unlike Lin Hao and the others, his collapse was not due to a breakdown of willpower but rather his body giving out. The winner was Zhang Tiezhu; his robust physique made a difference. After everyone else had fainted, his first action was not to rest but to find something to drink, indicating that he still had plenty of stamina left.
Yang Lin and the others carried the fainted individuals back to the dormitory and turned on the fan to help cool them down.
Chen Haoxuan woke up the fastest. He mumbled, "No matter how great your perseverance is, if your body can't hold up, what good is it?"
Zhang Tiezhu approached him with a bottle of soda and smugly said, "Boss, don't forget that you lost to me."
"Damn it! Can't you see I'm parched? Hurry up and get me a drink!" Chen Haoxuan snapped at Zhang Tiezhu.
"Just wait; I'll go get it right now," Zhang Tiezhu replied before quickly heading out. He soon returned with a bottle of ice-cold soda.
At this moment, Chen Yina and the others had already run down from the rooftop. They rushed into Lin Hao's dormitory with anxious expressions and saw Chen Haoxuan lying on the floor. Chen Yina dashed over and worriedly said, "Brother Xuan, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, don't worry. It's normal to feel like this when you first start standing at attention," Chen Haoxuan reassured Chen Yina.
"You're so annoying! I just saw you suddenly collapse on the rooftop; it almost scared me to death," Chen Yina complained.
"I promise this won't happen again. If I feel like I'm about to collapse, I'll stop immediately," Chen Haoxuan said seriously to Chen Yina. His words were a lie meant to comfort her. He was involved in significant matters, many of which were dangerous. To avoid these dangers, one must become strong enough to change their fate.
Next to Chen Yina, Jiang Xianghan expressed concern for Chen Haoxuan. "It's good that you're okay. Just be more careful in the future. As you always say, it's better to be safe than sorry."
"Yeah, I understand," Chen Haoxuan replied lightly.
"Where is this?" Lin Hao's voice came from behind Chen Haoxuan.
Hearing this, Chen Haoxuan joked, "This is hell. What's your name? Where do you live? Who are your family members... just spill it all out."
"Ah... hell? I just stood at attention and ended up like this? My body can't be that bad, right?" Lin Hao exclaimed in surprise.
