Suddenly, a voice called out, "Ruyan," from behind Shen Ruyan.
Shen Ruyan turned around and immediately frowned. She thought to herself how nice it would be if Chen Haoxuan could think about pleasing her all day like Wang Fuyou and the others.
Wang Fuyou and his two friends rushed over to Shen Ruyan, trying to win her favor. "Ruyan, my dad gave me several hundred thousand as pocket money today. How about I take you shopping? Ruyan, I bought an amazing Harley. How about I take you for a ride? Ruyan, what they're playing with is just childish stuff. If you come with me today, I'll show you the wonders of nature."
Shen Ruyan maintained a stern expression and replied calmly, "I'm not in a good mood today, so please don't bother me."
"Is it because of Chen Haoxuan again? Ruyan, let me tell you, Chen Haoxuan is great, but he already has a girlfriend. His girlfriend grew up with him and their bond is very deep. If you keep this up, you'll regret it for the rest of your life," Wang Fuyou warned Shen Ruyan. They had no idea that Shen Ruyan was a member of the Dragon Group, which is why they thought she liked Chen Haoxuan since she had been asking around about him lately.
"Ruyan, I'm not saying this to upset you, but Chen Haoxuan is indeed excellent; however, he really isn't suitable for you. Just give it up!" Gong Sun Xuan said seriously to Shen Ruyan.
Shen Ruyan felt her face flush from their comments. When did she ever like Chen Haoxuan? She was looking for him to carry out a mission. Unfortunately, she couldn't tell Wang Fuyou and the others the truth and had to come up with other excuses instead.
"I don't like Chen Haoxuan. I need to find him for something important. Whether you believe it or not is up to you," Shen Ruyan said irritably.
"Based on your behavior lately, I find it hard to believe," Ye Hongfei replied coolly.
"Hmph, I'm not talking to you anymore." Shen Ruyan huffily walked toward the school gate; she needed to report back to her superiors about Chen Haoxuan's safe return to New City University.
Wang Fuyou and his friends were used to her attitude and followed her closely. When Shen Ruyan reached the parking lot, she got into her car and drove toward the bustling city center of New City.
Once she arrived at a lively area and parked her car, she took out her phone and entered a series of strange symbols, numbers, and letters before sending a text message. This was the code used by their Dragon Group; only members of the Dragon Group could understand it, while others would have no idea what it meant.
The message was sent out, and Shen Ruyan got out of the car, ready to go shopping. Wang Fuyou and the other two followed her. Whenever Shen Ruyan picked something up while shopping, Wang Fuyou would instruct the staff to wrap it up. Shen Ruyan was in a bad mood; seeing Wang Fuyou being so generous only made her angrier. She was a soldier, not one of those girls who liked to take advantage of others, and she didn't like it when someone else paid for her.
"If you want to pay, then I'll let you pay," Shen Ruyan said as she navigated through the bustling city. As soon as she spotted something nice, no matter how expensive, she would touch it with her finger, and behind her, Wang Fuyou would tell the staff, "I’ll take this, please wrap it up."
Wang Fuyou had savings and a credit card; he could still afford to overspend by several hundred thousand.
Swiping... After two hours, Wang Fuyou was sweating from his forehead. He had already spent nearly a million Renminbi. If he kept going, he worried that his card might get maxed out. The three of them were already laden with bags.
"Wang Fuyou, damn it, hurry and call your driver to take these things to Shen Ruyan's dorm at New City University," Ye Hongfei said to Wang Fuyou. He was already exhausted; his legs were starting to ache. If it weren't for Shen Ruyan, he wouldn't have accompanied a girl shopping—doing so was a terrifying experience for him.
Wang Fuyou called his driver to come and take all the bags filled with items to Shen Ruyan's dorm at New City University. Afterwards, they continued following Shen Ruyan, and soon they were laden with bags again. Ye Hongfei and Gong Sun Xuan were about to collapse from exhaustion, while Wang Fuyou could no longer smile. Each time he swiped his card for Shen Ruyan, he wore a pained expression because he had started to overdraw on his credit card.
As they followed her, at some point they lost track of Shen Ruyan. Helplessly, they dragged their tired bodies back in disappointment.
Abel had masked her face during her last attempt to assassinate Chen Haoxuan, so she wasn't worried that he would suspect her as the assassin. Seeing Chen Haoxuan return safely to New City University looking seemingly healthy raised questions for her. She clearly saw him get hit multiple times; even if he survived, he shouldn't have recovered so quickly—did he have a bulletproof vest on?
At that moment, Abel was in a tall building, standing by the window with binoculars focused on the teaching building across from her. She silently vowed, "Chen Haoxuan, you escaped last time; it won't be so easy this time."
Abel decided that during her next assassination attempt on Chen Haoxuan, she wouldn't aim for his body but rather for his head. Although hitting the head was challenging, they had five people; as long as one of them hit their target, Chen Haoxuan would undoubtedly die.
Chen Haoxuan returned to New City University intending to find out who wanted him dead. To draw the snake out of its hole, he went to less crowded places right after class. When he reached those areas, for safety reasons, he kept moving without stopping.
Abel returned to the hotel where she found the same four foreign men waiting in front of her.
"Last time our operation failed. Although it was a failure, we managed to acquire a very valuable laptop, so we can consider it a way to atone for our mistakes. Now Chen Haoxuan is back, and it seems he has intentionally returned to look for us. I do not want to live on the same planet as Chen Haoxuan tomorrow, so you all need to take action this afternoon. This time I have prepared sniper rifles for you. With these weapons, Chen Haoxuan will undoubtedly die. If we fail again this time, all of you and I will be sent back to Mysterious Island to participate in Demon Training," Abel said seriously to her subordinates.
"Understood," the four foreign men replied in unison.
"Now, you all should rest well. At four o'clock this afternoon, we will begin our operation," Abel instructed.
She had previously attempted to assassinate Chen Haoxuan at his residence, so he would definitely be on guard. Therefore, she decided to change the location of the assassination to the entrance of New City University. She believed that Chen Haoxuan would never expect someone would dare to shoot at him in broad daylight.
Around noon, Chen Haoxuan returned to his residence and found it ransacked. He suspected that whoever had gone through his things was not an ordinary person, as they did not take any valuables but only items like notebooks that could hold information.
