"Do those who want to kill me value my skills?" Chen Haoxuan thought to himself as he looked at the messy state of his place.
Chen Haoxuan found his wallet, identification, and bank cards in the room. Seeing the disarray, he called a cleaning service and requested two workers to help him tidy up.
Once his place was clean, Chen Haoxuan returned to New City University. The campus was calm in the afternoon, and since it was after school, he decided not to attend evening classes and went straight home.
Due to the end of classes, the school gate was crowded. Chen Haoxuan walked out of New City University with the throng of students. On the rooftops surrounding the entrance of New City University, there were agents like Abel positioned everywhere. No matter where Chen Haoxuan tried to hide, they could ambush him, and they could shoot from various angles, significantly increasing their chances of successfully assassinating him.
"The target has appeared; everyone quickly take aim," Abel commanded her subordinates through an earpiece.
"Number Two has locked onto the target, over."
"Number Three has locked onto the target, over."
"Number Four has locked onto the target, over."
"Number Five cannot lock onto the target from this corner, over."
"Alright, I will count to three. Number Two, Three, and Four will fire together. One, two, three."
Chen Haoxuan was leisurely walking out when many students rushed ahead of him eager to get home. At that moment, a tall student suddenly pushed past him, strutting confidently out. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Four gunshots rang out, and the tall student's head exploded like a watermelon being smashed—an alarming sight. His abrupt action reminded everyone of the saying: "The bird that sticks its head out gets shot."
Although the tall student had rudely pushed Chen Haoxuan aside, he felt grateful in his heart because if it weren't for that tall student, it would have been him who died.
Hearing the gunshots and seeing the tall student's head burst like a watermelon caused many students to scream uncontrollably, creating chaos. Some students rushed over to see what happened while others tried to escape the dangerous scene. Taking advantage of the confusion, Chen Haoxuan slipped away to a hidden spot; he didn't want to leave; he wanted to find out who was trying to assassinate him.
"Mission failed; retreat. We'll come back tonight," Abel angrily ordered her subordinates. She felt a deep hatred for the tall student who had suddenly pushed Chen Haoxuan aside; if it weren't for him, Chen Haoxuan would have been dead by now.
Chen Haoxuan suddenly saw a person peek out from the rooftop of a building, then quickly duck down. He suspected that this was the person who intended to assassinate him, so he ran quickly towards the building.
Abel had not retreated; she wanted to wait a little longer to see if Chen Haoxuan would be foolish enough to show himself again. Her patience paid off as Chen Haoxuan indeed came out, running towards the agent known as Number Two. She began to track him with her sniper rifle.
"Number Two, be careful. Chen Haoxuan has noticed your presence and is heading towards your position," Abel warned.
"Number Two acknowledges."
Abel, on the rooftop of a tall building, struggled to aim her sniper rifle at Chen Haoxuan, but his movements were too swift for her to get a clear shot.
"Number Two, Chen Haoxuan is moving too fast; I can't aim at him. It's up to you now. If you can kill Chen Haoxuan, that would be best. If not, find a way to escape. If you get caught, you know what to do," Abel said as she put away her sniper rifle.
"Rest assured, Commander. Number Two will prioritize the nation. If captured by the enemy, I will take my own life."
"Everyone else retreat except for Number Two," Abel ordered.
The foreign man known as Number Two climbed to the highest point of the rooftop, pausing in the middle while holding a handgun.
Chen Haoxuan successfully reached the building where Number Two was located. He cautiously ascended and slowed down as he approached the rooftop stairs, pressing his head against the wall to listen for any sounds of movement above. However, there was complete silence.
Chen Haoxuan took off his jacket and quickly threw it outside. Unbeknownst to him, the person he was looking for was actually right above him.
From his hiding spot on the small rooftop, Number Two saw a shadow suddenly fly out from the stairway entrance and almost fired his gun. Fortunately, he held back; otherwise, his hiding place would have been exposed.
After throwing out a piece of clothing with no reaction, Chen Haoxuan drew out a dagger hidden in his calf and slowly stepped out from the stairway entrance.
Chen Haoxuan had once been a soldier, so he was very cautious, observing his surroundings for any dangers with each step he took.
Suddenly, Chen Haoxuan noticed a sniper rifle at the edge of the rooftop. Seeing the rifle, he was certain that the person who attempted to assassinate him had not left.
Chen Haoxuan searched along the edge of the small building on the rooftop for his assailant, but found no one there. If the assassin hadn't left, he must be hiding on the small building. Chen Haoxuan suddenly pushed off with his legs and leaped into the air. Sure enough, he spotted a masked figure on the small building. From his current position, he was on the enemy's right side. With his left hand, he grabbed the edge of the small building and flipped himself up onto it.
Number Two saw that Chen Haoxuan had discovered him and had climbed up onto the small building. He was initially startled but quickly regained his composure. He swiftly drew his handgun and aimed it at Chen Haoxuan.
Seeing the enemy aiming a gun at him, Chen Haoxuan quickly flipped again. Bang! Bang! Two shots rang out, but neither hit Chen Haoxuan.
Chen Haoxuan rolled over and landed directly behind Number Two. He struck with a knife-hand blow to Number Two's neck, intending to knock him out. Unfortunately, Number Two was stronger than he had anticipated; he merely grunted and swept his right arm backward.
Chen Haoxuan blocked Number Two's arm, which was as thick as a thigh, with both arms. He managed to block it but was forced back two steps, nearly being swept off the small building by Number Two's right arm.
Bang! Bang! Another two shots were fired. Chen Haoxuan relied on his agility to dodge the bullets from Number Two's handgun time and again. While evading, he shouted, "Who sent you to kill me? How much did they pay you? Tell me, and I'll give you double."
Number Two was focused solely on killing Chen Haoxuan. He didn't want to answer Chen Haoxuan's question because he had undergone rigorous training. His instructor had told him that if someone thought about other things during a fight, their combat effectiveness would greatly diminish due to distraction; their mind would be occupied with questions while needing to command their body to attack the enemy. Therefore, Number Two ignored Chen Haoxuan's question and concentrated entirely on eliminating him.
