Shen Ruyan stood on the balcony, waiting for Wang Fuyou to leave before she went to wash her face and brush her teeth. After getting ready, she grabbed a shoulder bag and headed out. She wanted to visit the warehouse that Gong Sun Xuan had taken her to yesterday, and today she had prepared a camera to capture the scenes inside.
She drove to the warehouse that Gong Sun Xuan had brought her to the day before, pushed open the door, and walked in. "Huh? Why has the scene changed?" Shen Ruyan wondered curiously. She remembered seeing a landscape painting yesterday, but now there was a beach and an ocean. She knew it was painted, but what puzzled her was that these scenes seemed almost alive; she felt something soft under her feet. When she crouched down and grabbed it, it was sand—real sand.
With a whoosh, a gentle breeze blew in, making her hair flutter. She caught a whiff of the ocean scent. "Could this really be the ocean?" Shen Ruyan murmured to herself.
As Shen Ruyan continued to admire the surroundings and walked further in, she suddenly spotted someone lying on a sun lounger soaking up the sun. She thought it might not be a real person. Curious, she approached for confirmation and found that it was Gong Sun Xuan, wearing sunglasses while basking in the sun.
"Hey, Gong Sun Xuan, what's going on? What happened to those paintings from yesterday?" Shen Ruyan called down to him.
Hearing someone call out, Gong Sun Xuan slowly opened his eyes. Upon seeing Shen Ruyan, he took off his sunglasses and smiled at her. "Ruyan, how does it feel? Doesn’t it seem like you’re at the beach?"
"It feels great, but I'm really curious about how this is done. Don’t tell me it's just painted; I can't believe paintings can move," Shen Ruyan questioned.
"Hehe... this isn't a painting; it's a projection. Look up—what's in the air is the projection. I bundled several projections together so they can be seen everywhere. I also installed an air conditioner, which is why you feel warm when you come in. There’s a fan in the corner of the room with some salted fish in front of it, so when it blows, you feel cool and can smell the ocean," Gong Sun Xuan explained.
"What a creative idea! How did you even think of this? And you brought in all this sand," Shen Ruyan remarked.
"Ruyan, do you want to see something thrilling?" Gong Sun Xuan said with a mischievous grin.
"What kind of thrill?" Shen Ruyan asked curiously.
"You'll find out soon enough." As he spoke, Gong Sun Xuan pulled out a remote control and pressed a button.
Suddenly, dark clouds gathered in the sky, with flashes of lightning visible within them. With a loud boom, a bolt of lightning struck the ocean, causing the water to ripple outward. The sea breeze intensified, blowing Shen Ruyan's hair wildly.
Booming sounds echoed—it was a tsunami—towering ten meters high and rushing toward her. The roar of the tsunami made Shen Ruyan feel as if it were the end of the world. The wind grew stronger, lifting sand from the ground as with another loud crash, the tsunami surged toward Shen Ruyan. Unable to help herself, she covered her face and screamed: "Ah..." She had completely forgotten that this was just a projection.
Gong Sun Xuan saw Shen Ruyan scream in fright, and he couldn't help but laugh heartlessly. In fact, when he tested the projections yesterday, he was also quite scared, though not as exaggerated as Shen Ruyan. He wasn't the one who set up these things; they were all done by Chen Haoxuan. He was just assisting Chen Haoxuan, who controlled the fans, air conditioning, and projections with his computer.
At that moment, Chen Haoxuan was on a small platform at the top of the warehouse. He could see and hear everything happening with Shen Ruyan and the others, and he controlled the scenarios to match their reactions.
"Ruyan, don't be afraid; it's fake," Gong Sun Xuan reminded her as he noticed she was still screaming.
"Fake? Oh, what about the tsunami? Oh no! How did I forget that? You just told me it was fake, so why did I still think it was real?" Shen Ruyan said in confusion. She had indeed been frightened; the sound of the tsunami and the overwhelming pressure it brought made her truly believe it was real.
"Doesn't it feel realistic? Want to see something else?" Gong Sun Xuan said with a mischievous smile.
"Is there more? Yes, yes! Change it quickly!" Shen Ruyan exclaimed excitedly.
"Then let's switch to a snowy scene!" Gong Sun Xuan laughed.
Upon hearing Gong Sun Xuan's words, Chen Haoxuan immediately adjusted the scenario. He first set the air conditioning to its coldest setting and then controlled several iron pipes to break through the paper backdrop, releasing strands of sponge from within. Feeling that the cold air was sufficient, he pressed the enter key, and a strong gust from the fan blew out as the projection changed instantly to reveal snow-covered mountains.
As the cold wind hit her, Shen Ruyan couldn't help but shiver. "Brr, it's so cold," she said, hugging herself.
Snow began to fall, and cold winds blew in waves, creating another very realistic scene.
Gong Sun Xuan had already prepared for this. He took out two long down jackets from a bag, quickly put one on himself, and walked over to Shen Ruyan. Before he could hand it to her, she swiftly snatched it away, clearly feeling very cold.
Once she put on the down jacket, Shen Ruyan sighed in comfort and said involuntarily, "It's so warm."
Gong Sun Xuan wore a flattering smile as he asked Shen Ruyan, "Ruyan, how is it? Are you satisfied with the surprise I arranged for you?"
Shen Ruyan nodded and said, "Hmm, I'm very satisfied, but I still won't be your girlfriend."
"Why not?" Gong Sun Xuan asked, feeling conflicted. He had worked hard to prepare so many things, yet Shen Ruyan was still unwilling to be his girlfriend, which left him feeling quite upset.
"I just don't have feelings for you!" Shen Ruyan replied.
"What kind of guy do you like? Just tell me, and for you, I'm willing to change into the type you like," Gong Sun Xuan said seriously.
"I... I..." Shen Ruyan thought for a moment and unexpectedly pictured Chen Haoxuan's face, which made her feel very conflicted. Could it be that the type she liked was someone like Chen Haoxuan?
"Come on, just tell me!" Gong Sun Xuan urged.
"I don't know yet; I'll tell you later," Shen Ruyan said before turning around and running out.
After Shen Ruyan left, Chen Haoxuan lifted the drawing paper and came out, smiling at Gong Sun Xuan. "Don't worry. Just because she doesn't like you now doesn't mean she won't ever. As long as she's not married, you still have a chance," Chen Haoxuan said.
"Thank you. I won't give up," Gong Sun Xuan replied. In the past, when his family encouraged him to pursue Shen Ruyan, he didn't feel much. However, after a long time of trying to win her over without success, he realized he had fallen in love with her. He had judged himself and concluded that it was both the desire for what he couldn't have and genuine love; he found that both reasons applied to him.
