"That's no wonder so many girls like you; it turns out you understand women's hearts so well," Shen Ruyan said to Chen Haoxuan with relief.
"Shen Ruyan, I'm not saying this to be harsh, but if you really don't like Wang Fuyou, you should find a way to make them give up. Otherwise, how long are you going to drag this out?" Chen Haoxuan said seriously to Shen Ruyan.
Shen Ruyan slowed down her eating. She took a sip of red wine and said to Chen Haoxuan, "I don't want this either! I don't know how many times I've rejected them, but they never listen. They say I don't have a boyfriend, so they have the right to pursue me."
"Then just find someone to take their place. Once they give up, you can dump that substitute," Chen Haoxuan suggested.
"If I find someone inferior, they won't believe it. I need someone better than them, but it seems like there aren't many such people. Among the people I know, it seems like you're the only one," Shen Ruyan said with a smile to Chen Haoxuan.
"You can't be thinking of making me your fake boyfriend, right? Let me tell you, dream on! I already have a girlfriend, and not just one. Even a fool wouldn't believe I'm single," Chen Haoxuan replied.
"I didn't say I wanted you to be my boyfriend; I can use you as a standard! I'll tell Wang Fuyou and the others that the boyfriend I'm looking for must be better than Chen Haoxuan. They know the gap between themselves and you, so they'll naturally back off," Shen Ruyan said.
"You're using me as a shield. What will happen then? They'll hate me and make trouble for me everywhere," Chen Haoxuan said with a stern face.
"You've been helping Wang Fuyou and the others make trouble for me these past few days. If I give you some trouble in return, we're even, right?" Shen Ruyan said proudly.
"I really have no sense; why did I care about you! Now look what I've gotten myself into—this is truly my fault," Chen Haoxuan self-reproached.
"I was just joking with you! I'm not like you, always looking for trouble with others," Shen Ruyan laughed. She actually wanted to use Chen Haoxuan as a shield, but she worried that doing so would make him resent her, which would hinder her mission of protecting him.
"You’re too cute," Chen Haoxuan said happily upon hearing he wouldn't have to be used as a shield.
Shen Ruyan felt that today's lunch was the best she had ever had. After finishing her meal, she leaned back in her chair and rubbed her round belly contentedly, saying, "It was so delicious! If there’s more, I want to eat it again."
"You’re such a pig! You’ve eaten so much already and still want more? Aren't you afraid of overstuffing yourself?" Chen Haoxuan laughed at Shen Ruyan.
"Chen Haoxuan, can I learn to cook from you? I want to learn so I can make delicious food for my parents and grandparents," Shen Ruyan said earnestly to Chen Haoxuan.
"You know, I'm a businessman. If you pay me, of course I'll teach you," Chen Haoxuan replied.
"Okay, I promise to pay you. When will you teach me?" Shen Ruyan asked eagerly.
"If you can move around now, I can teach you right away!" Chen Haoxuan laughed. Seeing Shen Ruyan's round belly, he thought about getting her some maternity clothes to make her look more like a pregnant woman.
Shen Ruyan tried to stand up. "Ouch! No way, I'm too full. I think I'll wait a bit!"
"I'll leave the dishes to you," Chen Haoxuan said, then sat down in front of the computer.
Shen Ruyan felt it was only right for her to wash the dishes; she didn't want to just eat without doing anything.
It took Shen Ruyan a full hour before she could move around again. She looked like a virtuous wife, smiling as she cleaned up the dishes. Watching her wash the dishes, she seemed very happy.
After washing all the dishes, she went over to Chen Haoxuan. She sat next to him and carefully watched as he worked on something on the computer that she couldn't understand. She was trying to learn by observing.
The events of that morning had caused quite a stir, so Chen Haoxuan wanted to lay low for a while until things cooled down before returning to New City University.
He hadn't read the newspapers or watched the news yet; he didn't know he had already made the front page. In the photo, he was running with a scared expression, and behind him was Shen Ruyan, mouth open and hand reaching out towards him as she chased after him. It was clear that she was pursuing him. Wang Fuyou and his friends were utterly embarrassed; their families had called them up asking how they managed such a situation—confessing their feelings only for their target to confess to someone else. It was truly humiliating.
Wang Fuyou and his two friends were no longer in New City; they shared the same thought as Chen Haoxuan—to hide for a while.
At 5 PM that afternoon, Chen Haoxuan began teaching Shen Ruyan how to cook, guiding her step by step since he realized she didn't even know how to chop vegetables.
Shen Ruyan was excited and found it fun to cook for the first time. While she was cooking, she occasionally let out squeals of joy and laughter. With the help of Chen Haoxuan, Shen Ruyan finally completed her very first dish.
“Chen Haoxuan, I’m done! It looks so fragrant! If my grandparents knew I could cook, they would definitely praise me for being smart,” Shen Ruyan exclaimed happily like a joyful child.
“Uh…” Chen Haoxuan was speechless. After spending so long learning a dish, he had helped her complete most of it. If that was considered smart, then his ability to learn things at a glance should be called extraordinary.
Chen Haoxuan prepared three dishes and a soup for himself. During the meal, he ate what he had made while Shen Ruyan happily tasted her own cooking. Noticing that Chen Haoxuan only ate his own dishes and ignored hers, she couldn’t help but ask, “Chen Haoxuan, why aren’t you eating my food?”
“Your dishes are, first, unappetizing; second, they look bland and tasteless; third, based on your character, I can’t trust them. I’m afraid of getting poisoned, so I’ll stick to what I made. Two words say it all: peace of mind,” Chen Haoxuan replied.
“You… you’re bullying me,” Shen Ruyan pouted in anger. She looked adorable, and since she had used too much oil in her cooking, her lips glistened enticingly, making Chen Haoxuan feel an impulse to kiss them.
To suppress his inappropriate thoughts, Chen Haoxuan focused on his meal and avoided looking at Shen Ruyan.
Seeing that Chen Haoxuan wouldn’t taste her cooking, Shen Ruyan decided to make him try it by eating all of his dishes. If she finished everything he made, he would have no choice but to eat her food.
Chen Haoxuan was shocked by Shen Ruyan’s appetite; he never expected such a beautiful woman could eat so much. She finished all three of his dishes, but fortunately, he had already eaten a bowl of rice; otherwise, he would have gone hungry that night.
