Chen Haoxuan fought against the Black Rose, and the more he fought, the more frightened he became. He never expected that a woman like the Black Rose would possess such formidable skills. She was several times stronger than him, her physique was far superior, and her speed was not slow either. If it weren't for Chen Haoxuan giving it his all, he would have been defeated by the Black Rose long ago. Chen Haoxuan suspected that the Black Rose's chest might be hard; his punches and kicks felt solid against her body.
Chen Haoxuan knew he was no match for the Black Rose. Now that her subordinates were arriving, if he didn't find a way to escape, he would surely be captured by them.
With his right hand clawing toward the Black Rose's face, he knew that no matter how fierce a woman might be, she cared deeply about her appearance. She quickly stepped back, and as soon as she did, Chen Haoxuan desperately ran toward the sea.
By the time the Black Rose reacted, Chen Haoxuan had already run ten meters away. The Black Rose snorted coldly and pulled out a dagger she carried with her, throwing it at Chen Haoxuan. Sensing danger behind him, Chen Haoxuan instinctively veered off course to avoid it. A flash of silver zipped past his ear, and he felt fortunate for choosing to run in that direction.
Behind him, he heard the Black Rose's furious voice: "Shoot! Shoot! Quickly!"
The sound of gunfire rang out as the Black Rose and her crew pursued Chen Haoxuan.
What it meant to dance on the edge of a knife was evident in Chen Haoxuan's current predicament. He could hear bullets whizzing past him; the sound of them slicing through the air felt like death itself was calling him.
With a splash, Chen Haoxuan jumped into the sea and immediately dove underwater, swimming to the right. When the Black Rose and her crew reached the spot where he had jumped in, she shouted to her subordinates, "Shoot! Fire into the water! If we kill him, it's just bad luck for him."
The sound of gunfire continued relentlessly. Seeing that Chen Haoxuan's body hadn't surfaced yet, the Black Rose threw several grenades into the water. Boom! Boom! Boom! Countless fish floated to the surface, but there was still no sign of Chen Haoxuan.
"Chen Haoxuan has escaped! Everyone split up and pursue!" The Black Rose commanded.
They were no longer in a remote area; there were many residents nearby who heard the gunfire and called the police.
At this moment, Chen Haoxuan was swimming deeper into the ocean. He surfaced for air every twenty minutes or so. When he came up for air, he would often raise only half his face above water to breathe in fresh air. He knew that the Black Rose and her crew would not give up easily; they would search for him with all their might. Therefore, he dared only to expose half his face to breathe, making it difficult for them to spot him.
Chen Haoxuan wandered aimlessly, and before he knew it, two hours had passed. He had no idea where he had drifted.
In the vast ocean, a medium-sized fishing boat floated on the water. At the bow of the boat sat a girl around sixteen or seventeen years old, lost in thought as she gazed at the endless sea. Her name was Li Yujia, and she was currently in her third year of junior high school. Since it was Saturday and there were no classes, she decided to join her father and others for fishing. She loved the feeling of drifting on the sea. That night, for some unknown reason, she couldn't sleep, so she went to the bow to look at the ocean.
After staring at the sea for a while, she grew bored. Holding a small fishing net, she tossed it into the water, hoping to catch some fish. This net was not large; anyone who knew how to throw a net could use it. Out of boredom, she wondered if she could catch anything.
Perhaps it was fate; the net that Li Yujia cast landed right on Chen Haoxuan, who was trying to get some fresh air above the surface. Thinking it was just a prank by his friends, he struggled fiercely. However, in the water, there was nothing to push against, and his thrashing only tangled him more tightly in the net.
Li Yujia held onto one of the ropes of the net and felt a strong pull through it, realizing she had caught a big fish. She pulled with all her might. "This fish is really strong; it must be huge! Once I catch it, Dad will definitely praise me," Li Yujia thought happily.
Chen Haoxuan found no leverage in the water and thus was caught by a little girl.
When Li Yujia pulled the net out of the water, it was nighttime, illuminated only by faint moonlight. She saw something white struggling in the net and assumed it was a fish's belly; typically, fish bellies are quite white. She thought this fish must be enormous and that she wouldn't be able to handle it alone. So she shouted into the cabin, "Dad! Uncle He! Uncle Li! Come quickly! I’ve caught a big fish!"
Four middle-aged men quickly emerged from the cabin. The first one to reach her was Li Yujia's father, Li Hai. He asked his daughter, "Yujia, where's the fish you caught?"
Li Yujia pointed toward the bow and said, "Right here! It's such a big fish! You all come help me get it up!"
Li Hai shone a flashlight into the water at the bow and exclaimed, "Ah... this is a person."
"Dad, are you joking? How could there be someone in the sea?" Li Yujia said as she looked into the water with her father's flashlight shining down. Finally seeing what she had caught, she covered her mouth in shock and took a few steps back.
Li Hai's companions hurried over. Upon seeing Chen Haoxuan struggling in the net, they felt frightened and believed he might be a water ghost. As fishermen, they had heard many stories about water ghosts; although they had never believed them before, they were convinced now. One of them spoke up: "We should let him go quickly."
As Li Hai and the others were about to cut the fishing net with a small knife to free Chen Haoxuan, he had already managed to break free from the net. He forcefully tore the net apart, scaring Li Hai and the others back to the center of the boat. "This water ghost is amazing," Li Hai said.
"Woo woo woo... Dad, I'm so scared, woo woo woo..." Li Yujia was terrified and huddled inside the cabin. She never expected that her moment of excitement would lead to catching a water ghost, which frightened her young heart greatly. If it weren't for her father and the others being there, she would have fainted from fear.
Chen Haoxuan had freed his upper body from the fishing net, but his lower body was still entangled. He couldn't worry about that anymore; he was running out of oxygen. If he didn't swim to the surface soon to breathe, he would die from asphyxiation. For someone who could swim, it was possible to move in water without using their legs. Chen Haoxuan desperately paddled with his hands and burst out of the water with a gasp, feeling refreshed by the fresh air.
Seeing Chen Haoxuan emerge from the water gasping for breath, Li Hai and the others thought the water ghost was angry. They all knelt down, repeatedly bowing their heads while saying, "The child doesn't understand; please don't hold it against us. We hope you can forgive us for our ignorance!"
