Abel and his group began searching for Chen Haoxuan, who was hiding at a distance with Jiang Dong, secretly monitoring Abel and his team. As soon as an opportunity arose, they would move in to eliminate the enemy.
It was impossible for Abel and his group to all crowd together to find Chen Haoxuan. They had to spread out, and as they searched, they unknowingly drifted further apart.
Chen Haoxuan found his chance and wouldn't let it slip away. He turned to Jiang Dong and whispered, "Stay here; I'll go meet them."
"Boss, I'm going," Jiang Dong replied earnestly. They had followed Chen Haoxuan for three years, but they had never really done anything for him. Meanwhile, Chen Haoxuan had treated them very well, and they felt guilty about it. They wanted to do something for him, but after waiting so long, they still hadn't had the chance. Today, with over a hundred enemies wanting to kill Chen Haoxuan, this was their opportunity to repay him. If they missed it again, they would have no face left to continue following him.
"Your strength is still too weak. If they all come at you together, you won't stand a chance of survival. So just wait here while I handle them," Chen Haoxuan said quietly to Jiang Dong.
Jiang Dong agreed that what Chen Haoxuan said made sense and reluctantly replied, "Boss, just be careful."
Chen Haoxuan nodded and then crouched down as he moved forward. He stealthily approached near Abel's group. At that moment, a foreigner walked by. Crouching in the grass, Chen Haoxuan noticed that no one was paying attention to him. Once the foreigner passed by, he quickly stood up, covered the foreigner's mouth, and swiftly slashed his knife across the foreigner's neck before pinning him to the ground. Then, using the knife, he cut a piece of cloth from the foreigner's clothing and wrapped it around the wound on his neck.
A skilled fighter's nose is very sensitive; if there is blood, they can easily smell it. That's why Chen Haoxuan wrapped the dead foreigner's wound with cloth so that others wouldn't detect it. After killing one enemy, he moved to the left where there was another enemy holding a gun who was farther away from the others, making him an ideal target.
Chen Haoxuan crept closer and hid behind a tree. As the enemy approached, he threw his knife with precision; it flew like a silver flash toward his target. The enemy saw Chen Haoxuan suddenly appear and opened his mouth to shout, but before he could make a sound, his neck went numb and he lost consciousness. Chen Haoxuan quickly ran toward the fallen enemy; he trusted in his skills—once his knife was out, death was certain for the enemy. He rushed over quickly because he was worried that if the enemy fell loudly, others would hear it; thus, he needed to support the enemy's body before it hit the ground.
After steadying the enemy's body, Chen Haoxuan gently lowered him down and cut another piece of cloth to wrap around the enemy's wound.
From a distance, Jiang Dong watched as Chen Haoxuan eliminated enemies one by one. He felt inadequate; while he could also kill these enemies, he couldn't do so silently like Chen Haoxuan. When Chen Haoxuan had taken down five enemies, the remaining foes finally noticed that some of their companions were missing.
"Everyone be careful; don't spread out too much," Abel warned.
"If we don't spread out, how can I deal with you? Hmph! You underestimate me, Chen Haoxuan. You will pay dearly for this," Chen Haoxuan thought to himself as he stealthily returned to Jiang Dong's side.
Once back with Jiang Dong, Chen Haoxuan said, "Let's set a trap and show them the wisdom of us Chinese people; we can take them down even without guns."
"Hey hey... Boss, I love to scheme against others," Jiang Dong said with a lewd smile.
Chen Haoxuan and Jiang Dong left and arrived at another ridge where they planned to set traps. Their speed was impressive, allowing them to slice through branches like daggers. Working together, they crafted powerful traps, one after another. After making more than thirty traps, they deliberately created some noise to let Abel and her team know they were on the opposite ridge.
Suddenly, a rumbling sound echoed from the opposite ridge, resembling boulders rolling down the mountain. Upon hearing this, Abel couldn't help but show a delighted expression. She shouted to her subordinates, "Chen Haoxuan is right across from us! Let's hurry over, but everyone needs to be cautious. Don't spread out; this could be another one of Chen Haoxuan's schemes. To avoid falling into his trap, shoot anyone you see immediately, even if it's Chen Haoxuan himself. I don't want him alive; I want him dead."
"Miss Abel, we've already lost over ten people. This is the highest casualty we've faced since our mercenary group was formed. So once we take down Chen Haoxuan, shouldn't you give us a bit more in terms of compensation?" A bald, muscular man said to Abel. He was Cassie, the leader of the mercenary group. His strength lay not in combat but in his intellect; he was skilled at making money, and since everyone in the mercenary business was there for profit, they had no choice but to follow Cassie.
"How dare you ask me for more money? Your men were killed because they were useless! What does that have to do with me? If you want compensation, go find Chen Haoxuan!" Abel retorted angrily.
"Abel, don't go too far! You sent us to kill Chen Haoxuan but only mentioned that his subordinates are formidable while downplaying Chen Haoxuan himself. Do you really think he's just an ordinary guy now? I'm certain it was Chen Haoxuan who killed my brothers, not his subordinates. You provided us with false information; what's wrong with me asking for compensation?" Cassie snapped back.
"Listen up, Cassie! If you can't kill Chen Haoxuan, I won't give you a single cent! You'll also be kicked out of the United States! Think carefully about that!" Abel threatened fiercely.
If Chen Haoxuan had heard this, he would have stood up and said to Cassie, "Cassie, don't you love money? Help me kill Abel and I'll give you tens of millions of USD. If that's not enough, I'll give you a hundred million USD..." Unfortunately for him, he was too far away from Abel and her team to hear.
"Forget what I just said," Cassie replied helplessly. They were all Americans; leaving the United States would mean losing a lot. For their families and better lives, they had no choice but to bow down.
"Hurry up and send your men to chase after Chen Haoxuan. If you successfully take him down, I will take care of your mercenary group," Abel first threatened Cassie and then painted a sweet deal for him.
With no other option, Cassie had to let Abel lead him by the nose. He quickly moved ahead with his men. When they reached the foot of the mountain, one of Cassie's subordinates suddenly shouted, "Get down!" It turned out that this person had accidentally triggered a vine and noticed a massive stone on a tree above them.
With a loud crash, the boulder crushed two people instantly and injured another. "Everyone be careful! Chen Haoxuan is intentionally luring us here; he must have set many traps. Everyone should carry a long stick to probe ahead so we won't fall into any more traps," Abel advised self-importantly.
Thus, they acted like beggars with each person wielding a stick as they cautiously moved forward, testing the ground ahead before stepping onto it.
"They are really foolish. We are modern people; how could our traps be inferior?" Jiang Dong chuckled from his hiding spot on the mountaintop.
"They're not Chinese people; how would they know how skilled we are at setting traps?" Chen Haoxuan laughed.
Over with Abel, an agent discovered a trap using a stick. It was a pit covered with dirt. He knocked on it and sensed something was off, concluding it was a trap. Feeling proud of his discovery, the agent called out to Abel, "Sir, I found a trap."
Upon hearing this, Abel rushed over. She also tapped the ground with a stick and realized it was indeed hollow. She said, "This could be a trap, or Chen Haoxuan and his team might be hiding inside. Number One, bring a large rock over and throw it down. Whether it's a trap or people, I want to smash it."
Number One quickly brought over a boulder weighing over fifty pounds and without hesitation hurled it into the pit. With a loud crash, the trap was destroyed. Just as Abel was about to call for someone to check it out, she suddenly heard something slicing through the air and sensed danger. She immediately shouted, "Everyone, get down!" As she spoke, she quickly dropped to the ground.
It happened so suddenly that those in front quickly crouched down. However, those behind them heard Abel's warning but were unsure of what was happening, so they didn't react as quickly as the others. There were ten sounds of thuds.
Abel looked up and her face turned pale with anger as she realized what had made the sound—it was ten bamboo stakes. She saw that six of her men had died from these deadly stakes. Standing up, Abel shouted angrily, "Chen Haoxuan, if you're a man, come out! Hiding like this is no way to be a hero."
Chen Haoxuan had no intention of responding to her! They were enemies now; it was either him or her who would survive. He didn't care about being a hero because he wanted to live.
Seeing that Chen Haoxuan did not respond, Abel turned to her subordinates and shouted, "Whoever kills Chen Haoxuan will be promoted to an agent in my mercenary group. If you're an agent, I'll reward you ten million dollars."
