Time passed minute by minute, and Ruan Hongmei still hadn't returned. Chu Feifan hadn't called either. She curled up under the blanket, shivering alone, feeling weak and cowardly. Her friend was missing, yet she was hiding in her dorm room like a turtle retreating into its shell.
She decided to go out and look for her!
She found a raincoat, put it on, and then grabbed a flashlight and an umbrella before leaving her dorm room.
Just as she was about to step out of the dormitory door, she was stopped by the dormitory supervisor, Ayi.
"Hey! Student, wait a moment."
Su Jin'er turned around and, seeing that she was the only student around, replied, "Auntie, what is it?"
"You are Su Jin'er, right?"
"Yes, that's me!" Su Jin'er answered honestly.
"Well, it's like this: it's raining outside, and your friend told me before she went out to keep an eye on you and not let you go out because you are unwell."
The dormitory supervisor frowned as she looked at Su Jin'er’s flushed face.
Su Jin'er felt a jolt of surprise. Ruan Hongmei had actually informed the dormitory supervisor to watch over her; she was so thoughtful! Although she felt touched, the disappointment in her heart outweighed that feeling.
She knew that if she insisted on going out, the auntie wouldn't be able to stop her. But since Ruan Hongmei had gone to such lengths, what could she say?
"Auntie, I won't go out, but can I wait here for them to come back?"
The auntie smiled and said, "Of course you can. That way I won't let that girl down."
Su Jin'er looked at her helplessly. Why would she agree to help a student who had just transferred?

Her gaze was intense, as if she were looking at someone of the opposite sex.
"With looks like yours, you must have many admirers, right?" The Dormitory Supervisor asked eagerly, her eyes darting around Su Jin'er's face.
Su Jin'er shook her head and said, "No!"
In fact, there really weren't any; at least no one had confessed to her. For some reason, she often heard people say that someone liked her, but she hadn't encountered many who actually confessed. According to Linyuan, it was because Jin'er always had an expression that seemed to say "keep your distance," which made everyone too afraid to approach her.
"How could that be? Look at you; your face has almost no flaws, and your skin is flawless." The Dormitory Supervisor smiled widely at her, seemingly very interested in her appearance.
"Auntie, you're joking." Su Jin'er kept her head down; she really couldn't bear to meet her intense gaze.
"Auntie? My goodness, am I that old?" The lady exclaimed in surprise while covering her face.
Su Jin'er looked up in astonishment at her face. She should be in her forties; isn't it appropriate to call her Auntie? Suddenly, she realized that nowadays women prefer to be called "sister," regardless of whether they are twenty or thirty years older than you, as it makes them feel younger.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, she said, "I'm sorry, Sister."
"That's more like it! I'm only thirty; calling me sister is just right."
Su Jin'er looked at her in surprise, but didn't dare to show it. At that moment, she finally took a serious look at her face: a plump body, slightly yellowish skin, and a face covered in dense freckles made it hard for her to believe that the woman was actually thirty years old.
Su Jin'er didn't want to talk to her anymore. She stood up and walked to the door, anxiously looking outside, hoping to catch a glimpse of Ruan Hongmei.
However, the dormitory entrance was so quiet that it seemed like only she and the Dormitory Supervisor were left in the school—no, it was the dorm supervisor.
Just as she was feeling disappointed and contemplating whether to return to her room, her phone rang.
"Hello! Feifan, have you found her?" she asked eagerly.
There was no response on the other end.
After waiting for a moment, just as she was about to ask again, Chu Feifan spoke up: "Not yet. We've searched everywhere we could think of, but there's no sign of her. I've already informed Captain Xing; they said they haven't seen Zuo Yi go to Linyuan."
"What should we do now?"
"Captain Xing has already sent people out to look for her. Just stay in the dormitory! I heard from Ruan Hongmei that you're sick. I'll come over right away; just wait for me."
"Okay!"
After hanging up, Su Jin'er leaned wearily against the wall. Zuo Yi, where on earth have you gone? Do you know how worried we are about you?
The wind picked up outside, snapping off some branches that lay scattered on the ground. Due to the heavy rain, the campus workers hadn't come to clean up, and the campus was eerily quiet with not a single person in sight. The only sounds were the heavy rain hitting the ground, rooftops, and branches—a stark contrast to the stillness around her; it felt as dark as night.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in the downpour. Su Jin'er recognized it was Chu Feifan coming toward her. She rushed to the door and immediately got drenched by the rain. Ignoring the calls of the Dormitory Supervisor behind her, she focused on Chu Feifan in the rain.
Chu Feifan ran in and hugged Su Jin'er tightly, pushing her back into the dormitory while saying, "Are you crazy? Why are you standing out here?"
Chu Feifan's clothes were completely soaked, and even water was seeping out of his shoes.
"Why didn't you use an umbrella or wear a raincoat?"
Su Jin'er took off her raincoat and draped it over him; his lips had already turned purple.
"I'm fine. How about you? Have you taken your medicine?"
"I've already taken it. Did you see Ruan Hongmei?"
"Yes, I saw her. She said she just moved into your dormitory, and she told me that you were sick and that I should come back to take care of you while she went to find Zuo Yi."
"How is she supposed to find Zuo Yi if she doesn't know him?"
"I already gave her his photo." Chu Feifan took off his coat and wrung out a puddle of water.
"But if she doesn't know Zuo Yi, where would she look? It's raining so heavily."
"I don't know either. I did ask her to come back with me, but she said she wanted to check one more place first. If she can't find him, she'll come back." Just as Chu Feifan finished speaking, a figure appeared through the rain. Su Jin'er remembered that Ruan Hongmei was wearing a black coat, and the person in the rain must be her.
When Ruan Hongmei reached them, Su Jin'er noticed that although she was wearing a raincoat, her clothes were almost half wet. She quickly pulled her inside.
"I still couldn't find him," Ruan Hongmei said, shaking her head.
Su Jin'er thought for a moment and said, "Everyone should go back to their dorms and change clothes first! Otherwise, we might all catch a cold."
Su Jin'er and Ruan Hongmei watched as Chu Feifan ran toward his dormitory. Once his figure disappeared, they headed upstairs. Just as they were about to climb the stairs, Ruan Hongmei suddenly turned around and smiled at the Dormitory Supervisor, saying thank you.
Returning to the dormitory, Su Jin'er said nothing and directly took off Ruan Hongmei's clothes. Ruan Hongmei screamed in shock, but Su Jin'er completely ignored her, throwing her wet clothes on the floor and pushing her into the blankets before changing out of her own damp pants.
Ruan Hongmei covered half her face with the blanket, secretly watching Su Jin'er, like a shy young bride looking at her husband.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Su Jin'er asked without turning around.
"You look prettier when you're serious."
Hearing this, Su Jin'er was speechless. She grabbed a piece of clothing from Ruan Hongmei's closet and threw it at her. "Do you feel unwell anywhere? If you're sick, just say it."
Ruan Hongmei obediently nodded and quickly crawled out from under the blanket to put on the clothes.
Su Jin'er glanced at her. She still had many questions about this girl, but right now, the key task was to find Zuo Yi. As long as Zuo Yi was safe, everything else wasn't the most important.
Zuo Yi, where are you?
She looked outside at the pouring rain and thought.
Ruan Hongmei watched her sorrowful expression, unsure of what to say. She felt that Zuo Yi was in grave danger, but could she voice that concern?
She couldn't help but sigh as she put on her last piece of clothing and jumped off the bed.
"Jin'er, I know you're worried about him, but with this heavy rain, we don't even know where he is. It's impossible to find him blindly."
Su Jin'er didn't respond. After a moment, she suddenly said, "Maybe I know where he is?"
"Where?"
"Old Laboratory Building!"
Ruan Hongmei looked at her in confusion. She had already been to the Old Laboratory Building and there was nothing there!
Su Jin'er sat dejectedly on the bed. She felt so foolish for being tricked by the Killer once again.
"Jin'er, what's wrong?"
"Hongmei, do you know? I'm really so stupid, getting deceived by the Killer time and time again."
"What do you mean?"
Su Jin'er recalled what happened last night when she discovered the basement of the Old Laboratory. Every time they were about to uncover something, the Killer would naturally block their way, leading them down many wrong paths. Very few people at school knew that the Old Laboratory Building had a basement, and those who did were mostly teachers who had been replaced five years ago. A dream she had inadvertently revealed to her that there was a basement just as she was about to go there. Professor Zhang appeared out of nowhere and said some nonsensical things, and then there was Cheng Hao, who must have known she was also in the Old Laboratory but chose not to reveal it, deliberately letting her overhear their conversation before fleeing instead of going to the basement.
It turned out they were still trapped in the circle set by the Killer.
