"This case is indeed a headache. Each one seems like a suicide, but in reality, they are all homicides. I know for sure it's murder, yet I'm struggling to find any evidence. According to Su Jin'er, if we don't find the Killer soon, more people will die."
"What? Is it just a perverted serial killer? It seems like such cases haven't appeared in a long time!"
"Who says they haven't appeared in a long time? The last case at the medical school also involved many deaths, didn't it? I really don't know where your head is at all day," Captain Xing said irritably.
Jiang Jie stuck out her tongue apologetically.
"What does the red circle mean?" Jiang Jie asked, pointing at the red circle.
"The red circles indicate those who are already dead."
"Wow! So many people are dead already? That means only these two are left now, right? We can just question them directly."
"If everyone handled cases like you do, the Vengeful Spirit of the wronged might come looking for you, just like you said earlier; the Killer isn't necessarily among these people."
He suddenly recalled that Hao Hongtao had mentioned something about Qin Yu when he confessed. However, when he asked about Qin Yu, her overly calm reaction surprised him. A college student should show some panic when questioned by the police; otherwise, it seems too far-fetched unless she was very good at acting and had hidden her fear well. But then again, that didn't quite make sense. It's hard to conceal nervousness and fear; when someone is anxious or scared, their body tends to tremble involuntarily. Of course, different people react differently; even if someone tries to hide it well, they shouldn't be able to escape the keen observation of someone experienced in investigations.
Perhaps she should be interrogated again.
Captain Xing brought Jiang Jie to the Medical University Affiliated Hospital. Su Jin'er had already gone home, while Chu Feifan was still recuperating in the hospital.
"Captain Xing, what brings you here?" Chu Feifan asked as he saw Captain Xing and Jiang Jie enter, putting down the half-peeled apple in his hand.
"Nothing much, just came to see you. Has Jin'er already gone home?"
"Yes, Zuo Yi took her back."
"This child is really pitiful. She just started school and has encountered so many issues; it's really tough on her."
Chu Feifan looked at Captain Xing with some confusion. He couldn't believe he came just to express concern for Su Jin'er. He remained silent, waiting for Captain Xing to continue.
Captain Xing awkwardly cleared his throat a few times and said, "Well, I know how you feel about Su Jin'er, but you also know that this case is closely related to her. I think you would want to solve it as soon as possible, right?"
Chu Feifan took a bite of his apple, waiting for him to elaborate.
Captain Xing cleared his throat again and said, "So I hope you can help me with something."
As soon as he heard the word "help," Chu Feifan frowned. This request was likely not an easy one.
With the apple in his mouth, he mumbled, "What kind of help?"
"Go to Qin Yu and gather some information."
"No way! That woman is terrifying. I think we should find someone else!" He said this while trying to pull the blanket over himself.
"Wait a minute! If you don't help, then just wait for Killer to drive Su Jin'er crazy. I think you might not know this yet, but he sent a text threatening Jin'er that the Death Game has begun!"
"What?" Chu Feifan asked as he lifted the blanket and sat up. "What do you mean by Death Game?"
"I'm not really sure either, but someone sent a text to Jin'er about it. I thought you might understand what it means," Captain Xing said mysteriously.
"What do you want me to do to find out more?"
"You know Qin Yu likes you, but she's also very smart. If you directly say you want to date her, she'll definitely be suspicious. So you need to approach her in another way and get her to reveal everything she knows."
"That sounds easy, but you know she's clever. How could she possibly fall for it?"
"That's up to you. This is about Su Jin'er's life, so think carefully!"
After saying that, Captain Xing left the hospital room without looking back, giving him no chance to respond.
Jiang Jie smiled and said, "It seems like we should add another strategy to the thirty-six strategies: the beauty trap."
"Hey! That should be one of the thirty-six strategies!" Chu Feifan shouted at Jiang Jie's retreating figure.
The idea of using a beauty trap to get close to Qin Yu made him feel quite troubled. The doubts and distrust he felt towards her on the day something happened to Su Jin'er made everything seem strange. He had always trusted her, but that incident left him feeling uneasy. It was as if trusting her would lead to his own demise. He had intended to ask Lin Yazhi what was going on, but he never found the opportunity. However, what puzzled him was that Qin Yu seemed to have disappeared for a long time. Could it be that she ran away out of guilt?
Su Jin'er returned home, but her parents had gone to work, leaving the house empty. She invited Zuo Yi in to rest for a while.
This wasn't his first time at her house. Su Jin'er went to get him some water while he quietly sat on the sofa.
"Jin'er, who do you think sent you the message?"
"I don't know, but I can be sure that this person is very close to me and knows me well, even guessing my inner thoughts, which is why I feel scared."
Her face was still somewhat pale.
"Then at our school, besides me and Fei Fan, is there anyone else you know?"
Su Jin'er placed the poured tea on the table and said, "No, but you two only got to know me after we started university. I think aside from Linyuan, no one else should know me that well."
Thinking of Linyuan made her heart ache fiercely.
Zuo Yi thought for a moment and felt that she had a point. Neither of them spoke further, and the atmosphere suddenly became awkward. Zuo Yi raised his head and finished the water in his cup, then stood up and said, "I'm leaving now; Fei Fan is still waiting for me. Remember to call if anything happens. If that person sends you another message, let us know, and don’t open the door to strangers."
Su Jin'er found it somewhat amusing: "I'm not a three-year-old child; just because a strange uncle gives me candy doesn't mean I'll go with him. Don't worry!"
Zuo Yi smiled, and the atmosphere lightened a bit due to her joke: "Then I'm off. Take care of yourself."
After seeing Zuo Yi off, Su Jin'er returned to her room and collapsed onto her bed. She hadn't slept in her own bed for a long time; the room was still very clean. Her mother must have been cleaning it every day!
Looking at the spotless room, her mood instantly brightened. It had been several days since she had eaten properly, and at that moment, her stomach began to growl.
Not knowing what food was available, she stroked her belly while walking downstairs.
Opening the refrigerator, she was pleasantly surprised to find her favorite Chocolate Cream Cake inside, and it seemed freshly made.
"Did Mom know I was coming back today?" she said happily to herself as she took the cake out.
She grabbed a plate, cut the cake, and began to eat joyfully.
Returning home lifted her spirits significantly; seeing the cake she hadn't had in a long time helped her push aside those terrifying thoughts. In truth, she hadn't forgotten at all; she was just trying to distract herself. Only by doing so could she calm down. Now that she was back home, she didn't want to bring the frightening experiences from school into her house, nor did she want to worry her parents.
After finishing the cake, she nestled on the sofa and turned on the TV, flipping through all the channels without finding anything interesting. Eventually, she turned off the TV and picked up a book titled Impurities from the table. This was a book her mother often read during her days off. Holding it in her hands made her feel as if she could sense her mother's emotions while reading.
However, because she hadn't slept well the previous night, she soon felt drowsy after only a short while of reading.
Maybe I should take a nap!
She put down the book and peacefully drifted off to sleep.
In everyone's heart, home is the safest and most comforting place because it is where loving parents protect you from harm.
Su Jin'er quickly fell into a deep sleep with a smile on her face.
She slept soundly without any dreams, allowing her tense nerves from earlier that day to relax completely.
When she woke up again, it was already evening. She was still lying on the sofa, and the pillow she had been holding had fallen to the floor. The lights were off; she sat up and rubbed her eyes as soft moonlight poured in through the window. Darkness always brings unease, even in one's own home.
Her eyes unconsciously glanced toward the window. Suddenly, her body became rigid as a figure faintly emerged beneath the curtain.
She widened her eyes in terror; the silhouette stood motionless behind the curtain, and more frighteningly, it had no feet.
Su Jin'er quickly ran to turn on the light, hardly daring to breathe, but her eyes never left that figure. She was afraid that if she turned her head, it would suddenly rush out and kill her.
The moment the light turned on, the figure vanished. Su Jin'er stared blankly at the windowsill.
It turned out to be just a false alarm!
She patted her chest and laughed at herself for being so timid.
Looking at the clock, it was already nine o'clock. Where were her parents?
Never mind; she should start cooking! That way, they could have dinner when they returned. However, she realized she wasn't very good at cooking! No matter; she had to learn eventually. Since her parents weren't home, it was a good opportunity to try.
What she didn't notice was that her phone on the table began to vibrate. A text message quietly appeared on the screen, showing an unknown number!
