Waiting below for a long time, Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi grew increasingly worried as they still hadn't seen Su Jin'er come down. They occasionally glanced up at the fourth floor, but the balcony remained empty, leaving them uncertain if Su Jin'er was still in her dorm room. Perhaps she had already finished getting ready and was on her way down.
Forget it, I should just call and ask!
Chu Feifan took out his phone and dialed her number. In truth, he was afraid of not seeing her; even if it was just for a minute, he didn't want her to be out of his sight.
The call connected, and he heard Su Jin'er's somewhat tired voice on the other end.
"Are you coming down?" Chu Feifan's tone was filled with a plea.
"You guys are still waiting for me downstairs?"
"Yes! Come down! I'll take you out to eat."
Su Jin'er hesitated for a moment. She felt a bit tired but didn't want to stay alone in her dorm room. "Okay, wait a moment, I'll be right down."
Chu Feifan let out a sigh of relief. He was worried that Su Jin'er would refuse to come down, saying she was too tired and wanted to rest. Although he knew she was exhausted, he still wanted to see her; only then could he ensure her safety.
Su Jin'er changed into a set of white sportswear, which she loved, and tied her hair into a ponytail. This made her look fresh and lifted her spirits considerably.
Seeing Su Jin'er come out of the dormitory truly eased Chu Feifan's mind.
"Let's go!" Zuo Yi smiled at Su Jin'er, who was dressed in white.
"Let's eat outside! The cafeteria food is really hard to swallow!" Chu Feifan joked. It was probably the first time she wore all white! She really suited the color!
Su Jin'er did not respond, which was taken as agreement. After all, staying alone in the dormitory was quite boring.
After exiting the school gate, Su Jin'er unconsciously directed her gaze toward the small grove of trees, which had once been her nightmare. Now, the trees had sprouted new leaves, and sunlight could hardly penetrate, making it appear even darker inside.
Suddenly, she saw a white shadow flash through the forest.
Could it be that woman from that night?
Su Jin'er immediately ran over, determined to find out who she was.
"Jin'er, where are you going?" Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi quickly caught up with her.
"You guys wait for me at the restaurant!"
As Su Jin'er spoke, she dashed into the woods.
Chu Feifan was naturally worried about her being alone, so he followed closely behind, and Zuo Yi also ran into the forest with them.
The White Shadow maintained a distance of about ten meters from Su Jin'er. Whenever she got closer, the White Shadow would speed up to increase the distance again. Eventually, deep within the grove, the White Shadow suddenly vanished. Su Jin'er thought she might have been seeing things, but no matter how hard she looked, she couldn't find any trace of her.
Just as Su Jin'er was about to turn back, a faint smell of blood wafted into her nose, causing her heart to race.
Could someone have been killed again?
This thought filled her with fear, and her breathing became heavy.
She slowly moved forward, and the smell of blood grew stronger with each step. Fear made her scalp tingle, and her legs trembled uncontrollably.
Suddenly, everything in front of her turned blood red, and the intense stench of blood made her bend over and vomit violently.
The sight before her was horrifying: a male corpse without limbs or a head was discarded in a pile of leaves, and a wave of decaying odor assaulted her nostrils.
Her legs gave way, and she sat down on the ground.
Who could it be this time?
When Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi arrived, Su Jin'er was sitting on the ground.
"Jin'er, what happened?" Chu Feifan's voice caught in his throat as he too saw the terrifying scene before him.
"How is this possible?" He gasped in shock, and Zuo Yi, who arrived shortly after, let out a scream upon seeing it.
Su Jin'er's chest heaved violently; she felt an unprecedented fear. The suffocating sensation made her throat ache, and she couldn't utter a single word.
Chu Feifan picked Su Jin'er up in his arms, and she could only let him carry her, her limbs feeling as if they no longer belonged to her. Warm tears streamed down her face continuously.
"Ayi, call the police! Tell Captain Xing not to send a patrol car; it has to be undercover. This matter cannot be made public; it will cause panic among the students."
Such a brutal method of killing would be unbearable for anyone to witness! What kind of twisted killer could do this?
Chu Feifan took Su Jin'er back to school. At that moment, no one had the appetite to eat, but instead of taking her back to the dormitory, he brought her to the Pavilion.
She sat quietly in the pavilion, tears streaming down her face, as if she had lost her soul.
Chu Feifan sat down beside her, unsure of how to comfort her. In such a situation, who could remain calm?
"Who is it? What does he want?" Su Jin'er’s voice was hoarse, tears slipping into her mouth, bitter and painful.
She was on the verge of breaking down!
"Calm down. We need to investigate this from the beginning. We don’t know who he is, but he knows everything about us, especially you. So right now, we must stay composed and find any possible flaws that Killer might reveal."
Su Jin'er looked coldly at Chu Feifan. "Calm? How can I be calm? Their deaths are related to me! How can I be calm? How?"
She shouted, completely losing the composure she once had.
Chu Feifan held her tightly. "I know you’re scared, but this is exactly what Killer wants, isn’t it? He wants you to suffer and feel guilty; that’s what makes him happy. Do you understand? So please, just try to stay calm."
Su Jin'er felt cold all over, trembling uncontrollably. Every nerve in her body was tightly wound like a coiled spring, ready to snap with just a little more pressure.
Soon, Captain Xing arrived with several officers. They were indeed in plain clothes and quickly surrounded the small grove. Many curious students passing by the school gate looked over but were sent back by the plainclothes officers standing near the grove, leaving the area around it deserted.
"I need to go see," Su Jin'er struggled out of Chu Feifan's embrace and unsteadily walked toward the school gate.
Chu Feifan grabbed her arm. "Don't go! You can't handle it."
Su Jin'er closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them with determination. "I have to go."
Chu Feifan looked at her helplessly and finally had no choice but to accompany her outside. The plainclothes officer at the entrance stopped them as they approached, and Jiang Jie happened to come out from inside, signaling for them to enter.
"Did you discover the body?" Jiang Jie asked, looking at Su Jin'er’s pale face.
She nodded.
"The killer is truly cruel. What deep-seated hatred could they have with the victim to kill them in such a brutal manner?"
"Do you know the cause of death?"
"Not yet; the forensic doctor is conducting a preliminary examination."
Captain Xing saw Su Jin'er and walked over to ask, "You discovered the deceased?"
Su Jin'er nodded and recounted the entire process of finding the body, including the threatening messages she had received.
Captain Xing pondered for a moment and asked, "Think carefully; have you offended anyone in the past?"
Su Jin'er shook her head. She had already tried to recall countless times but just couldn't remember. Her personality had always been gentle; although she didn't have many friends, she wasn't someone who liked to stir up trouble. She got along peacefully with her classmates and had never had any conflicts with them. How could anyone hate her so much?
Su Jin'er turned slightly to glance at the body and suddenly realized that the forensic doctor looked somewhat familiar.
Chu Feifan exclaimed, "Gaya, what are you doing here?"
Only then did Su Jin'er remember that the person was Gaya Ze, the young forensic doctor who had once helped them.
Gaya Ze glanced back at them and said calmly, "Yes, from now on, I will be working as a forensic expert with Captain Xing."
Chu Feifan understood that he was busy with work and didn't say anything further.
After a while, he stood up and said, "The cause of death is still unclear and will need to be determined after the dissection. However, the wounds are very irregular, and there is rust present. The killer likely used a rusty dagger to sever the victim's limbs and head."
A rusty dagger?
Su Jin'er immediately thought of the scenes from Saw Horror. She had only watched the beginning of the first movie before she couldn't bear to continue, and now a case even more brutal than that was happening in her own life, with the possibility that the victim was her classmate.
Her stomach churned again, but fortunately, she hadn't eaten lunch; otherwise, she would have already thrown up.
The body was loaded into the vehicle. Captain Xing said, "The victim's head and limbs have not been found yet, so we will conduct a search. However, since the killer seems to be targeting Jin'er, I believe he will take certain actions. Therefore, I want to assign someone to protect you."
Su Jin'er nodded in agreement.
Chu Feifan thought for a moment and said, "I do have an idea, but I'm not sure if Jin'er will agree."
"Go ahead," she urged.
"Zuo Yi and I have already rented a four-bedroom apartment outside. We’ve moved in already. I was wondering if you would like to join us? This way, it would be easier for us to protect you."
Su Jin'er was taken aback; she hadn't expected such a solution. Although it was a good idea, being a girl living with two boys felt inappropriate.
"This is a good plan; I can arrange for Jiang Jie to live with you as well." Captain Xing looked at Su Jin'er expectantly because the killer was focused on her. If they could start from her side, they wouldn't have to worry about finding the killer.
After a struggle with her thoughts, Su Jin'er finally agreed, as that dormitory had always filled her with fear.
"Captain Xing, have you found any clues?" she asked.
"There are no clues. This is just a dumping ground, not the crime scene. I'm very interested in that White-Clad Woman you mentioned; she must have intentionally brought you here."
"Yes, I think so too."
"But how did she know you would come out? That's quite a coincidence."
"This person seems to know us very well," Chu Feifan said.
"I suppose this is what he meant by the Death Game," Su Jin'er murmured.
