Su Jin'er initially wanted to explode in anger, but when she looked at the spot where there should have been bloodstains, she was astonished to find the ground completely clean, with no trace of the blood she had seen.
"It can't be. It was definitely there; I saw it," she said as she stood up and rushed into the restroom. The nurse's body still lay quietly in the bathroom, but the bloodstains in the corridor outside had vanished.
Zuo Yi, seeing the body on the floor, couldn't help but take a step back in disbelief.
"How... could this happen?"
"He has been stalking me all along, always by my side every day, yet we never knew who he was." Su Jin'er trembled at the thought of someone unknown lurking in dark corners, watching her every move. She glanced around, feeling as if someone was hiding nearby, laughing at her distress.
After an unknown amount of time, she stopped crying and looked at Zuo Yi. "Call the police!"
She remained sitting on the cold floor, her body gradually growing numb. Humans were truly more terrifying than ghosts; ghosts only frightened with their appearance, while humans concealed their true intentions within. You could never know what someone was really thinking or planning to do. You wouldn't be scared by their exterior, but they could push you off a cliff without you realizing it, leading you to ruin.
Zuo Yi went to call the police while Su Jin'er sat on the ground. She had lost one of her shoes at some point. A nurse on duty needed to use the restroom and glanced at Su Jin'er as she passed by without saying anything. However, when she pushed open the restroom door, a terrified scream instantly awakened everyone who had been asleep.
When nearly everyone in the hospital rushed over, Su Jin'er still sat quietly on the floor without raising her head. Chu Feifan looked at her sadly but could only gently hold her trembling body.
"Am I very weak? After experiencing so many deaths, I still haven't become stronger," she laughed bitterly.
"No, it's not that you're weak; it's just that such things happening to anyone would bring endless pain," he said, rubbing his chin against her hair.
"It's you; it must be you, demon! Anyone who gets close to you or poses any threat will end up dead because of you. You are the embodiment of evil," a voice suddenly rang out.
Su Jin'er looked up in surprise at the person before her—it was Qin Yu.
"What nonsense are you talking about? You're the one who embodies evil! Do you dare say that those dead have nothing to do with you?" Chu Feifan shouted loudly.
Qin Yu involuntarily took a step back. She knew that among those people, there were indeed a few she recognized, but what did that have to do with her?
Chu Feifan glared at her fiercely.
"No, their deaths have nothing to do with me. I don't know anything; I know nothing."
After saying that, she turned and ran away. At that moment, Chu Feifan noticed that she was wearing a hospital gown.
When Captain Xing arrived, many people were still gathered around watching the commotion. Zuo Yi and Chu Feifan had already brought Su Jin'er back to the room, and no one dared to push open the bathroom door.
Su Jin'er sat on the bed, hugging her legs. Qin Yu was right; she was the embodiment of a demon. Anyone who approached her would be harmed, so no one should come near her.
Zuo Yi said, "I'll go check the situation at the scene."
Chu Feifan nodded; he just wanted to stay with her.
Seeing Zuo Yi come out, Captain Xing stepped forward and asked, "What exactly happened?"
Zuo Yi shook his head and said, "I'm not really sure. In the middle of the night, I got up intending to go to the bathroom, but I found that Jin'er wasn't in the room. So I came out to look for her and discovered she was sitting on the floor. Oh! I haven't gone to the bathroom yet! Wait a moment."
After saying that, Zuo Yi walked over to the men's restroom. After a while, he came out and continued, "She said there was blood on the floor, but I didn't see any. Then she told me someone had died, and that's when I saw the nurse lying on the ground."
Captain Xing looked at him in confusion, feeling that something was off but couldn't recall what it was.
"Alright, I understand now."
At that moment, Gaya Ze walked out of the restroom and said, "The deceased was killed by a razor blade. The killer severed her carotid artery. There are fingerprints on her ankles; however, the killer was wearing gloves, so there are no fingerprints. The body still has warmth, so she must have died less than two hours ago. The specifics will have to wait until after dissection. Also, we found one of Wang Fan's legs; it hasn't decayed and seems to have been refrigerated. Although the deceased is completely naked, she hasn't been sexually assaulted. However, it's strange that she wasn't wearing clothes but had shoes on; that part doesn't make sense."
Captain Xing nodded and then ordered someone to carry the body away.
He walked into the bathroom to check carefully. Aside from the blood at the location of the body, everything else was clean. He turned around but did not find any valuable clues, so he walked out. He had already seen the body, and just as Gaya Ze had said, it was completely naked except for the shoes, which puzzled him.
After leaving the bathroom, he walked towards Chu Feifan's hospital room. Su Jin'er was still sitting motionless in the corner.
Captain Xing sat down beside her and sighed, saying, "Tell me what you saw."
Su Jin'er moved slightly and then took a breath, saying, "In the middle of the night, I wanted to go to the bathroom but didn't want to get up. However, I eventually woke up. I heard a sound outside that seemed like something being dragged. I was wondering who would be dragging things around at that hour. Still wanting to use the bathroom, I went out. As soon as I opened the door, I was startled by what I saw because there was a wide trail of blood in the middle of the hallway that extended all the way to the bathroom door. When I went in, I found that nurse's body. I was so scared that I backed out and sat on the floor, and then I found this."
She handed Captain Xing a note printed from a computer. He took it and looked at it, saying, "The Killer is taunting us. It seems we haven't had any leads for a while, which has given him a lot of confidence. However, we do have some clues! At least we know he is a man."
...
"This joke isn't funny at all," Chu Feifan said with an awkward smile.
After a while, Captain Xing asked again, "Did you stay in the bathroom from when you discovered the body until we arrived?"
She nodded. "Yes, it was Zuo Yi who called the police. I was sitting by the door; there was no one else in the bathroom besides that nurse's body. I also checked and saw that the window was closed from the inside; the Killer couldn't have escaped through there."
Captain Xing remained silent while Jiang Jie took notes on what she said.
"What was her cause of death?"
"Her carotid artery was severed by a blade. I think the sound you heard of something being dragged was probably the Killer dragging the nurse's body."
Su Jin'er nodded. "However, I find it strange. When I heard that sound, it clearly came from outside the door, and since the bathroom isn't very far from here, I should have been able to see the Killer when I went out, but I didn't see anyone."
Captain Xing thought for a moment and said, "Well, that is indeed strange."
Su Jin'er hesitated for a moment, bit her lip, and said, "Why don't you suspect me?"
Her sudden remark surprised everyone in the room.
After a while, Captain Xing smiled and said, "Just based on what you said, I won't suspect you. Besides, a Killer usually says, 'What gives you the right to suspect me? Where's the evidence?' So I don't suspect you."
Su Jin'er forced a smile and said, "However, I still hope you can suspect me."
Captain Xing looked at Su Jin'er in confusion, not quite understanding her meaning. After thinking carefully, he suddenly realized, "Alright, I understand now." He then called out to the officers outside, "Xiao Liu, Xiao Liang, come in and take Su Jin'er back to the station for questioning."
Xiao Liu and Xiao Liang entered, looking puzzled at Captain Xing and then at Su Jin'er. Xiao Liu asked, "Boss, why? Isn't she the victim?"
"Who among you saw her as a victim? Stop talking nonsense and take her away," Captain Xing said impatiently. His demeanor frightened them into silence as they directly escorted her out.
"Jin'er? Why?" Chu Feifan asked in confusion, his face filled with worry.
"Yeah! Why?"
Su Jin'er shook her head and said, "Don't come to see me anymore. I don't want to see you. Also, take care of your injuries and don't do anything foolish again."
With that, she walked out of the room without looking back, leaving Chu Feifan, Zuo Yi, and Jiang Jie all looking bewildered.
Captain Xing patted Chu Feifan on the shoulder and then walked out with them.
"How could this happen? Jin'er, what on earth is she thinking? How could she end up in jail?" Chu Feifan said, holding his head in confusion.
Zuo Yi also looked bewildered and puzzled. "I don't know either! It's really strange; what could she possibly be thinking?"
As they sat in the police car, Su Jin'er gazed out the window and slowly said, "Thank you, Captain Xing."
"Haha, no need to thank me. I have to admit, you're quite clever; I'm starting to admire you."
"I just suddenly thought of it. Perhaps this is the only way to find out who the Killer really is."
"Are you suspecting someone?"
Su Jin'er shook her head. "I'm not suspecting anyone; I just feel that the Killer is very close to me, so close that I can almost sense his breath. However, without evidence, I can't suspect anyone."
The car fell into silence. Su Jin'er felt uneasy; she didn't want to suspect anyone she knew or anyone around her. However, perhaps this person was so ruthless that finding them was necessary, and she couldn't afford to be soft-hearted.
Captain Xing glanced at Su Jin'er through the rearview mirror and noticed her serious expression. Perhaps she really had a suspect in mind. This girl was very smart and strong; it was truly impressive that she could maintain calm thinking after such an incident!
