An old man was slowly walking in the yard when a clear voice called out, "Master!"
The old man looked up to see a girl in a long blue skirt approaching gracefully, her face adorned with two dimples and a bright smile. His white beard trembled as he said, "So it's you, my girl! Hahaha, it's been quite a while since you last came to see me!"
This person was none other than Elder Ying, the master of Liu Qingxi.
Over the past two years, although he remained physically strong, he was aging and living a more tranquil life.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, but compared to passing on his lifelong knowledge to his disciple Liu Qingxi, he preferred the latter.
However, in just two years, this disciple had truly impressed him; she had learned almost everything she could, and there was little left for him to teach.
"Master, I’ve been thinking of you!" Liu Qingxi pouted like a child.
"Alright, alright. You're already a grown woman. You’re quite determined; are you really going to leave?" A few days ago, he had received a letter sent by Liu Qingxi.
Knowing her upcoming plans made him worry; it wasn't safe for a young woman to travel alone without an elder. "Well, I can't stop you. A place like Linyi County won't hold you back."
His disciple had great ambitions, and he couldn't hinder her.
"Master, I want to take this opportunity to explore. The Construction Team in Linyi County has developed quite well; I want to lead them further and not be confined to this one place." As she spoke, Liu Qingxi's eyes sparkled.
Elder Ying sighed. He understood the situation in Linyi County better than he had expected; it was much better than he imagined and far superior to what he had accomplished at her age.
"Master, this is my first time going to the capital. Coincidentally, Yang Yichen has been summoned by the emperor, so our journey will be safer. We’ll stay overnight in Lingjiang Province tonight; I came to bid you farewell because we will set off early tomorrow morning."
After Liu Qingxi finished speaking, the atmosphere fell silent as they all felt a deep sense of reluctance.
Elder Ying knew well the purpose of his disciple's journey. Although he had mentally prepared himself for this moment, the bittersweet feeling in his heart was undeniable.
"Master, I made some fruit preserves recently that can last for half a month. They are a bit sweet, so you shouldn't eat too much. Also, here are some clothes and shoes that I asked Aunt Xu to make for you," Liu Qingxi said as she handed over the items one by one.
"Master, please take care of yourself." Over these two years, she had experienced too many farewells while they faced the challenge of starting anew in an unfamiliar city.
For this elder who had given her selfless love and imparted all his knowledge without reservation, no amount of gratitude could adequately express her feelings of appreciation.
"Alright, my child, I will take good care of myself. There are so many people at home. Just be careful out there. Yang Yichen is a good kid; you two should take care of each other. I want to see you both get married." Elder Ying gently patted Liu Qingxi's head, nearly choking up.
"And Yan, although I am not your master, I consider you like my own child. Your sister is a Young Lady, and you have grown up. You need to take on the responsibilities of a man and study hard; that will be the best way to repay her."
"I will, don't worry, Grandpa." Liu Qingyan nodded earnestly.
In the past, Liu Qingxi protected him; in the future, he would protect Liu Qingxi.
The master and disciple exchanged heartfelt farewells. Before they knew it, the moon had risen high in the sky, and it was getting late.
"Alright, you and Yang Yichen will head to the capital together. The route you are taking has official escorts, so I am assured of your safety. It’s getting late; go back and rest early. You don’t need to worry about me."
As Liu Qingxi was about to leave, he suddenly called out to her: "Girl, take this letter. If you encounter any difficulties, go find this person at the address written inside. He is an old friend of mine and will help if he can."
Having lived a lifetime, he still had some connections and did his utmost to assist his disciple.
Liu Qingxi carefully tucked the letter into a secure place and turned back three times to wave at Elder Ying: "Master, you should go back now; there's no need to see us off."
However, Elder Ying continued to watch them leave.
Regarding Elder Ying's final arrangements, Liu Qingxi's initial confusion about the unfamiliar capital suddenly vanished because she knew that behind her were many people who cared for and loved her.
The brief farewell with Elder Ying filled her with emotion; compared to what Elder Ying had done for her, she felt she had done far too little for this elder.
Yet his teachings still echoed in her ears: "My disciple has succeeded; I can bask in your glory as well. You have done what I couldn't do when I was young. However, I still need to remind you: the capital is not like our hometown; people there are more treacherous. Do not trust anyone easily."
Liu Qingxi understood that her master had experienced great storms in life, far richer than all her past experiences combined.
With their support, she felt emboldened to move forward without fear.
Back at the inn, Chunyu Summer Lotus was still awake: "Miss, we can't relax until you return! Hehe!" Chunyu was always so lively and spirited.
Summer Lotus had already instructed the innkeeper to prepare washing supplies. After helping Liu Qingxi tidy up, they finally returned to their rooms to rest.
The villagers in Ten Li Pu only learned of Liu Qingxi's departure the next day.
Quietly, without being noticed by them, she left, suddenly breaking the string in people's hearts that had always been there. They didn't even know why they trusted a girl in her teens so much.
That feeling of not being afraid as long as she was there had formed at some unknown time.
"I never expected the Miss Liu to just leave."
"Yeah, I heard rumors before and thought they were false. Who knew it would actually happen?" A woman wiped her tears.
Although the men did not express their feelings as directly as that person, they also felt uneasy. They had grown accustomed to Liu Qingxi's leadership and presence.
Suddenly, with her departure, they felt weak and listless.
Zhang Wuliang saw this scene and sighed, "What are you all doing? Just because Qingxi is gone, you stop working? Are you expecting to get paid for nothing? I didn’t tell you because I was afraid it would make you sad. What? Do you want her to see you like this when she comes back?"
He couldn't help but scold them, "You should all get back to work. We should do even better in her absence; otherwise, we would be unworthy of Qingxi's years of dedication to Ten Li Pu. Do you understand?"
Zhang Wuliang's reprimand woke them up. Yes, they couldn't do this. There were still many houses in the courtyard that needed to be built. They were still receiving their wages. They had just received a reward for a month's work; they needed to be worthy of that money.
Suddenly, they perked up and began to work hard.
"That's more like it! Who knows, it might not be long before Qingxi takes us out of Linyi County and out of Lingjiang Province. So everyone, work hard!" A smile of relief appeared on Zhang Wuliang's face.
