“Uncle Hawk, hahaha, so it is your esteemed presence! Who would dare to play such a joke on me... haha... I should have gone out to greet you, my apologies.”
With a slight grimace, Kevin got up from the ground, ignoring the pain in his body, and laughed heartily as he approached Hawk, his attitude extremely sincere. This scene left Amus speechless; he had never seen Young Master Kevin treat anyone with such respect. Even after being knocked down, he still greeted with a smile. It was likely that even his father would not enjoy such treatment.
Although Kevin was smiling at the moment, he felt quite aggrieved inside. If anyone else dared to treat him this way, he would have skinned them alive and tortured them mercilessly. But this person was Hawk. Even if he had a thousand ambitions and courage, it would be useless against him.
“Brent has many powerful individuals around him; I cannot linger here for too long. You need to find him soon to avoid any accidents,” Hawk said, ignoring Kevin's welcoming smile. After dropping this line, he turned and left.
“Hey... Uncle Hawk, please sit down for some tea, allow me…” Kevin called out with feigned politeness, but before he could finish his sentence, he saw Hawk’s figure disappear at the doorway, leaving no trace behind.
The six guards and several experts who had rushed over exchanged glances, wide-eyed and confused about the situation. However, everyone felt a chill in their hearts regarding the sudden appearance and quick disappearance of Hawk. They sensed that this person was too mysterious and his strength unfathomable.
Seeing that Hawk indeed left without giving him face, Kevin let out a sigh of relief. He then looked around suspiciously and, after realizing there was nothing unusual, spat a thick phlegm onto the ground with an ugly expression.
Given his prideful nature, being humiliated like this left him feeling resentful. He hated that he currently lacked the strength to deal with Hawk. Otherwise, he would have killed him without hesitation and wouldn’t have cared about what Hawk had just instructed.
“Listen up! What happened today must not be leaked. Otherwise, you will regret it,” Kevin said with a fierce expression, a hint of menace in his brows as he cast a sharp gaze at those around him.
Everyone hurriedly nodded in agreement, expressing their commitment to keep it confidential.
Meanwhile, about ten miles away in a secluded mansion, two groups were gathered together secretly discussing something, seemingly plotting some kind of conspiracy.
“This matter is settled; when the time comes, our two families will strike together and turn the representative of the Aldra Family into dust. Let that old bastard Warren Earl lose all face,” a sinister voice echoed, sounding like a demon's howl. Looking closer revealed an old man whose face resembled a skeleton with green flames flickering in his eyes.
“Hmph... if the representative of the family dies before even stepping onto the stage to compete in the capital city, it will surely become a laughingstock. I wonder how the Aldra Family will maintain their dignity then,” another voice chimed in. It belonged to a middle-aged woman among the group facing the sinister old man. As her words left her mouth, waves of unstable energy surged around her body, indicating her terrifying strength.
While dark currents stirred outside, a conspiracy quietly unfolded. Inside the castle room, Kevin remained completely unaware that an assassination plot against him was imminent.
The cold wind howled as snow began to fall heavily; after accumulating through the night, it formed a thick layer on the ground, some even turning into ice.
All the Judges, including participants, resided within the castle. The members of the twelve elite teams were divided; some stayed behind in the castle while others lived in houses forming a hexagram pattern in front of it.
At midnight during another guard shift change, six people emerged from one of the houses forming the Hexagram. Among these six people were two members under Yahang’s command who were responsible for replacing those on guard duty during the first half of the night.
Six people walked through the thick snow, not exchanging a word, and upon entering the castle, they split into three groups of two, heading in different directions.
Two members under Yahan headed straight towards the corridor where Sean Sterling and Bu were located. These two were robustly built human figures, moving awkwardly as if they had not rested well. Their expressions were blank, resembling lifeless zombies devoid of spirit.
“Yawn... Fayrel, Victor, you two are really slow... Just take over. Keep watch here; Chester and I will head back to rest for a bit,” one of the elite team members stationed in the corridor greeted them from a distance, yawning and sounding somewhat fatigued.
Hearing this, the approaching bulky team members, one of whom was called Fayrel, lifted his head to look at the speaker with a somewhat dazed expression and replied in a stiff tone, “Bag, you all go ahead. We’ll manage here.”
At that moment, another team member named Chester arrived and stood next to Bag, casting a suspicious glance at Fayrel and Victor.
For some reason, upon seeing Fayrel and Victor, Chester felt an intense discomfort wash over him. Especially the tone in which Fayrel spoke just now was bizarre and unlike his usual self, raising doubts in Chester's mind.
“Fayrel... are you feeling unwell? You look pale, and what about Victor? What happened to you two? If you're not feeling well, there's no need for you to take over; you should go back and rest,” Chester said after scanning both of them for a moment, his tone somewhat probing.
“Are you joking? They look fine to me... Come on, stop guessing. Let’s hurry back to rest,” Bag interjected impatiently. He had been looking forward to a comfortable sleep and didn’t want Chester’s nonsense to ruin their chance to rest.
“We're fine; we’re just a bit tired from not resting well. It’s nothing serious. Chester, you don’t need to worry; just go back with Bag. We’ll handle things here,” Victor chimed in with a normal tone that was consistent with his usual demeanor, though his face was slightly pale and his gaze appeared dull.
Chester looked at Victor again, still seeming unconvinced. He opened his mouth as if to say something but was pulled away by the increasingly impatient Bag.
“Come on, let’s leave this to them. No more chatter; we need to get back and rest.”
“Alright, you two go ahead. We’ll be fine here,” Fayrel added from behind as he watched Bag pull Chester away, seemingly reassuring them.
As Bag and Chester’s figures gradually disappeared around the corner of the corridor, Fayrel and Victor exchanged glances. A strange smirk flickered across their previously vacant expressions as they moved toward Bu's room.
A series of knocks echoed through the room where Bu sat cross-legged on the bed.
Startled awake from his meditative state, Bu slowly opened his eyes and frowned at the door: “Who could be looking for me at this late hour?” After pondering for a moment and hearing another round of knocks, he reluctantly got up and walked toward the door.
“Young Master Brent, we are members under Lord Yahan. We come at his command in the middle of the night to invite you for an important discussion. Please allow us a moment of your time,” upon opening the door, Bu was taken aback by seeing Fayrel and Victor standing there. Just as he was about to inquire further, Victor respectfully stated their purpose.
"Yaheng invited me...?" Bu Xin thought, noticing that the other person also had black eyes and black hair, wondering if that was why there was something to discuss. He nodded slightly and looked at Victor, just about to say something when a familiar voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Zi, these two have issues. If I’m not mistaken, they have already been controlled by someone using magic. Hehe... I never expected that someone would cast dark magic right under my nose, Sean Sterling."
"Sean Sterling...?" Bu was startled, and as he listened to the content of Sean Sterling's words, he couldn't help but take a deep breath. He never imagined that someone could be so insidious and cunning, controlling elite team members with dark magic to lure him out of the castle. What would happen after leaving the castle was obvious.
"It’s fine, you can follow these two. I will trail behind to protect you. As for the one who wants to harm you, I’ve developed a bit of interest; being able to cast the Mind Chain from dark magic suggests they must have reached Intermediate Level 4 as a Dark Mage." As if sensing Bu's fear, Sean Sterling spoke again.
"Follow these two outside...? " Bu hesitated for a moment but then thought that Sean Sterling would be right behind him. With his unmatched strength, he should not put himself in any life-threatening danger.
"Young Master Brent... please proceed." After seeing Bu lost in thought and his expression changing as if he had doubts, Victor exchanged a subtle glance with Fayrel before urging him to move forward.
They were merely puppets controlled by the dark magic Mind Chain and had no ability to perceive the mental communication that Sean Sterling transmitted into Bu's mind. If the caster were present, they might have caught a faint wave of Mental Power transmission.
"Well... since that's the case, you two lead the way; I will follow you." At this point, Bu had made up his mind and no longer hesitated. He spoke decisively to Victor and Fayrel.
Victor and Fayrel were taken aback by his words but suspected nothing amiss. They respectfully gestured for him to proceed ahead.
