Not far from the castle, a group of unexpected guests arrived in a garden. Under the cover of the howling cold wind and amidst the thick blanket of snow, they came in the pitch-black night.
This group consisted of eight individuals, varying in height, divided into two factions gathered behind a rockery in the garden, whispering among themselves.
"Ha ha ha... That kid named Brent has already been lured out by my Mind Chain-controlled Puppet. With their walking speed, they should arrive here in about a tea's time," said a mysterious figure dressed in a black robe, with a skeletal face and eyes glowing with an eerie green light.
"Hmph, since the fish is already hooked, half the job is done. Now we just need to reel it in. Once that kid shows up, we strike together and aim to kill him in one blow, turning him into dust," replied a middle-aged woman from the other faction. The murderous intent in her words indicated that she was not to be trifled with.
"Chief Executor, there are so many of us, each with strength above Intermediate level, and you and Lord Bivis are both at Intermediate Level 4. Bringing this kind of force to deal with a mere child is already showing him too much respect. If all eight of us attack together, it would be too much of a loss of dignity," interjected a gray-clad man with green hair standing beside the middle-aged woman.
His words prompted several others in the group to nod in agreement, their expressions revealing a sense of arrogance. It seemed they considered themselves too high above to join forces against a mere child.
Seeing this scene, the middle-aged woman furrowed her brows tightly and was about to speak when the first speaker, the Black-Robed Skeleton Face, interrupted her. His eerie green eyes fixed on the raucous group as he coldly remarked, "You fools have no idea what you're talking about. That kid's strength may not be concerning, but if we fail to kill him in one strike and he manages to send out any warning signal, we’re all done for.
During the Peak Showdown period, Judges won't care about the lives of participants; they might even prefer them to fight each other. However, I’ve heard that among this batch of Judges is an Archmage at Intermediate Level 5.
You may not fear anything, but given my status, if that madman notices me, it could mean death for me. When disaster strikes, who will be left unscathed? If anything happens to me, where will you escape to?"
"This..." After being berated by the Black-Robed Skeleton Face, the Gray-Clad Green-Haired Man found himself speechless. A hint of resentment brewed within him; however, considering the other's strength and the importance of this mission, he had no choice but to endure for now.
The others who had previously agreed with him fell silent as well. After all, might makes right; compared to the strength of the Black-Robed Skeleton Face, the Gray-Clad Green-Haired Man clearly paled in comparison.
"Hmph! If you are so concerned about appearances and want to uphold some knightly virtue by facing that kid named Brent one-on-one, then I won’t participate any longer. I’m withdrawing from this mission. Let’s see how you complete it," said the middle-aged woman angrily, clearly displeased by someone challenging her arrangements.
"Hehe... Chief Executor, please calm down; Lord Bivis as well. This matter is indeed our fault for lacking consideration. This mission still requires both of you to lead and arrange; we will unconditionally follow your orders without any further objections," quickly interjected an elderly man from their group who was adept at smoothing over conflicts.
This man was quite shrewd; while speaking, he exchanged glances with the Gray-Clad Green-Haired Man and others before bowing repeatedly toward both the middle-aged woman and the Black-Robed Skeleton Face, which eased their expressions somewhat.
From this interaction, it was clear that both the middle-aged woman and the Black-Robed Skeleton Face held high positions among these eight individuals. The middle-aged woman was referred to as Chief Executor while the Black-Robed Skeleton Face was called Lord Bivis by others.
With the task arrangements being reissued, no one raised any objections this time. Everyone expressed their compliance with the mission plan agreed upon by the middle-aged woman and the Black-Robed Skeleton Face.
As these two groups of conspirators set their ambush, Bu followed Fayrel and Victor out of the outer iron gate of the castle.
With Sean Sterling hanging back to provide support, Bu felt a surge of confidence. With Sean Sterling's strength, he could easily dominate in Crook Duchy, being nearly invincible below the High-Level tier.
Now, Bu Xin was pondering who exactly was planning to take action against him, and whether Yahan had any connection to this matter.
Why did Fayrel and Victor invite him in Yahan's name? How did they know he was curious about Yahan and had many questions he wanted answered?
Perhaps even Yahan himself was unaware, as Bu had never revealed anything to him.
All of this seemed coincidental, but it was hard to dismiss. After all, if they wanted to harm him, they would first need to lure him out of the castle; otherwise, if they alarmed the many Judges within the castle, they would surely fail.
Thus, luring him out of the castle became the crux of their entire plan. But what reason could they use to successfully draw him out? This was a question that required careful consideration. Yet, it was precisely this difficult problem that they seemed able to solve, which made everything feel suspicious.
"Senior Sean, can you hear my Mental Power message?" Bu concentrated his Mental Power at his forehead and sent out a wave of thought.
After a moment, Sean Sterling's voice echoed in Bu's mind: "With your current Mental Power, you are not capable of sending mental messages beyond ten meters. Moreover, your mental fluctuations are too obvious and can easily be detected by those with superior Mental Power. However, with my Mental Power covering you now, there is no issue. What is it?"
Bu sighed in relief upon receiving Sean Sterling's response and then sent another mental message: "Senior, the person who intends to harm me was instructed by Yahan to invite me for a meeting to discuss something. I wonder if Yahan is involved in this matter?"
Bu had a good impression of Yahan; he was not only the first person with a similar skin tone that Bu had encountered but also had a straightforward and generous personality that resonated with Bu. Therefore, he did not wish for Yahan to be among those who wanted to harm him.
"You need not worry; Yahan is not involved in this matter. He is currently resting safely in his room. The invitation using Yahan's name was made when you momentarily relaxed your mental guard as you opened the door. They used the dark magic Mind Chain to probe into your mind. It seems you have quite a favorable impression of Yahan; otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to catch that hint."
Sean Sterling's voice resonated in Bu's mind, causing him to break out in a cold sweat.
"Mind Chain is so powerful. When a strong magician uses this kind of magic, it's almost like mind reading... terrifying... but I wonder what else they might have gleaned from probing my mind. My origins... Vampire Physique... and Data Upgrade System... will that information be obtained by them?" Bu slowed his pace, furrowing his brow with unease.
Feeling the unusualness of the situation and guessing the source of his unease, Sean Sterling chuckled softly and comforted, "You need not be overly anxious. The Mind Chain can only glimpse some deeply impressed events on the surface of the mind; it is not so easy to probe into the secrets buried deep within."
"With your Mental Power strength, the Dark Mage who casts Mind Chain is merely at Intermediate Level 4. Even if he were to reach Intermediate Level 5, he still could not pry into your deepest secrets. Otherwise, he could directly control you like those two Fellows before you, leaving no secrets at all, making it unnecessary to go through such trouble."
"I see..." Bu Xin secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, his current strength had reached Intermediate Level, and his Mental Power was not weak. Otherwise, suffering from such an evil spell as Mind Chain could indeed lead to being controlled and losing one's autonomy, exposing all secrets.
During the conversation with Sean Sterling, time passed quickly. Bu followed Fayrel and Victor, their footsteps crunching on the thick snow as they gradually arrived at several scenic spots connected by gardens.
"They're here... Everyone hide in ambush. Once that person enters our attack range, strike together with full force. After one blow, regardless of whether they are dead or alive, we retreat quickly," Black Robed Skeleton Face Bevis said urgently, his eyes flashing with a green phosphorescent light.
The seven people beside him, including the middle-aged woman, nodded in agreement.
"I have sensed a few hidden mice nearby. You should slow down; I will release a Mirror Clone for you. This Mirror Clone is indistinguishable from your real self; as long as it does not initiate an attack, few will notice any flaws. At that time, hide your true self nearby and do not come out easily."
Sean Sterling's Mental Power echoed in Bu's mind. At the same time, a nearly imperceptible magical fluctuation approached his body in an instant.
Bu felt a jolt throughout his body, as if he had jumped into water and then back onto the riverbank again, experiencing a sensation akin to his soul being separated.
