"Ha ha... It seems you are quite an understanding person... Rest assured, everything I said just now is valid. If you survive after a single strike, not only will the matter of killing the Fifth Prince be dismissed, but I will also agree to one request of yours within my capabilities," the Gray-Clad Elder said, his gaze fixed on Bu, smiling benignly as if harmless.
Bu did not take the man's words to heart; however, he still placed a hand over his chest and bowed in respect. He then turned his attention to Sean Sterling and Elena, saying earnestly, "I appreciate the kindness shown by both seniors today. However, this incident has caused quite a stir, and I cannot stand idly by while you two worry about my affairs. That would be a waste of life.
I do not wish to be reckless, nor will I joke with my own life. Although my strength is at Intermediate Level 5, I am confident that I have a fifty percent chance of survival against a single strike."
Upon hearing this, the entire room was stunned. The idea that someone at Intermediate Level 5 could have a fifty percent chance of survival against a single strike was shocking coming from a Fellow of Intermediate Level.
While everyone was astonished, their expressions were peculiar. Some scoffed in disdain, others looked puzzled, but many wore mocking expressions, believing Bu was simply overestimating himself.
Among them, Gaia's laughter was the loudest, his disbelief evident. He thought that even he would have no chance of survival if he faced an Intermediate Level 5's strike with all his cards on the table; the survival rate would be almost nonexistent. Hearing Bu claim a fifty percent chance was utterly ridiculous to him.
In the arena, only those familiar with Bu—like Reynold, Kalandor, and Sean Sterling—held some belief in his words. However, this belief waned significantly when they considered the two-level gap in strength between them.
"You... You are simply unreasonable... You don't know your limits. Fifty percent chance... Hmph... Ridiculous."
Elena was nearly driven to fury by Bu Kuang's reckless words. In her eyes, Bu was no longer just reckless; he had become foolish and utterly brainless. Her words were almost spat out through gritted teeth.
Bu could only smile wryly in response and remained silent.
He understood his own situation well; he could not predict how strong an Intermediate Level 5 expert truly was since he had never fought one before. However, he had a good reference point: Hawk.
Hawk's strength was unfathomable. Even Sean Sterling had been unable to accurately gauge Hawk's power when he first sensed him. Moreover, Locke had mentioned that Hawk had already reached the peak of Intermediate Level 4 years ago; it stood to reason that he should be close to reaching Level 5 now.
Furthermore, when the White-Bearded Elder attacked Bu earlier with his obvious Intermediate Level 5 strength, the pressure he exerted was not as overwhelming as that from Hawk. This indicated that Hawk posed an even greater danger than the White-Bearded Elder.
Bu had fought against Hawk before; although Hawk had not used lethal force and had retained much of his strength during their encounter, Bu still felt a life-and-death crisis at that time.
From this alone, it could be inferred that an Intermediate Level 5 expert's power should exceed what Hawk displayed during their fight by at least tenfold. In other words, if Bu had faced Hawk in that state back then, he would have had no chance of survival.
It is well-known that Hawk's strength did not solely come from his power but also from his elusive stealth techniques and sharp flying knives.
Considering this, if Bu were to face an all-out attack from Hawk, he might very well die from a single strike.
However, if it were a direct strike from an Intermediate Level 5 expert while being prepared for it and countering with the Tenth Sword of Ethereal Thirteen Swords—even though it might seem like a futile effort—if his Heart remained intact and his head still on his shoulders, with Bu's Vampire Physique granting him formidable recovery abilities and quickly swallowing Black Lotus Elixir after the strike, he would still have a significant chance of survival.
With all these factors in mind, Bu might have hesitated; however, due to Habea III's pressing demeanor and Sean Sterling's intent to engage him in battle at that moment, he found himself without any opportunity before the fight erupted.
After that, the Divine Consciousness Projection of the Guardian Martial Saint and the Gray-Clad Elder appeared, making a solemn promise. With some hesitation in his heart, Bu could no longer stand by and thus agreed to this pact.
Sean Sterling had treated him well; every time something happened, Sean Sterling was there to step up. This had already made Bu Xin feel ashamed. If he continued to be a bystander, allowing Sean Sterling to fight against the Gray-Clad Elder alone, perhaps he could save his own life afterward, but the friendship between him and Sean Sterling would likely end there.
After all, looking back now, the protection promised at that time was something Sean Sterling had already done far more than what that promise entailed.
Bu was a passionate person; when others treated him well, he would remember it deeply and repay it a hundredfold.
At this moment, he did not intend to hide any longer. For the sake of his own conscience and to let Sean Sterling see clearly, to let everyone see clearly, he, Bu, dared to act boldly and openly. He would not be weak or hide behind others, expecting them to bear his responsibilities. He would not be a coward silently watching others fight for him while he stood idly by.
With this strike, he cast aside life and death, driven only by his passionate heart and the desire for a clear conscience. He was ready to fight!
Sean Sterling's expression gradually grew serious as he slowly retracted his magical energy, lowering his wand. He looked at Bu and said softly, "I have appreciated your willingness to risk everything before. Today, I say this again: I hope you do not disappoint me."
"Xiao Xiao..." Elena's expression changed when she heard this. However, upon seeing the deep trust in Sean Sterling's eyes, her heart trembled inexplicably. She had never seen such trust in Sean Sterling's gaze before; even towards her, it had never existed.
In an instant, Elena felt a whirlwind of emotions within her. She stared blankly at Bu in silence. Perhaps moved by Sean Sterling's trusting gaze, her previous thoughts of Bu being reckless vanished completely. Although she still harbored some doubts, she no longer opposed him.
Receiving Sean Sterling's recognition and encouragement, Bu grinned widely, filled with a surge of confidence. He shouted towards Habea III, "One strike! How about I take your strike?"
Habea III responded with cold laughter, looking at Bu as if he were staring at a dead man.
The occurrence of such an episode during the Peak Showdown was unexpected for everyone present. Most people in the Training Ground shook their heads in disbelief, thinking that Bu was being too reckless and treating his life like a game—he was not far from death. However, a few individuals showed intrigue in their eyes, believing that Bu's courage combined with his considerable strength meant that if he did not fall today, he would surely achieve great things in the future.
Among these individuals was the beautiful and cold Mu Yan. At this moment, her gaze towards Bu held a hint of emotional turbulence; she seemed surprised by his bravery and perhaps even moved by his passion.
In contrast were Gaia and several others who harbored deep hostility towards Bu; they sneered as they awaited the moment of his demise.
"Since my Fellow agrees to this pact of strikes, I will personally take action to fulfill my promise," the Gray-Clad Elder said after seeing that Sean Sterling and Elena no longer opposed him. He breathed a sigh of relief and without hesitation extended a finger towards Habea III's forehead.
At that moment when the finger pointed outwards, the atmosphere changed dramatically; Earth Power surged violently while the rain that had been falling suddenly ceased. Some individuals with weaker Mental Power could not help but feel their spirits drawn towards this finger as if their souls were being snatched away.
They saw grayish-white energy swirling around the fingertip as if forming a gray-white seal that emanated overwhelming pressure and an aura capable of subduing all things—terrifying to behold.
Faced with this finger from the Gray-Clad Elder, Habea III felt a shiver run through him as if he were stripped bare from reality itself and placed into an endless void. Despite this sensation of helplessness, he remained motionless as the finger descended directly onto his brow.
The gray-white energy flashed and instantly entered Habea III's forehead. The overwhelming pressure dissipated immediately; everyone felt an inexplicable lightness in their tense minds and relaxed bodies. However, what followed was a feeling of heaviness in their chests accompanied by nausea.
Habea III's body trembled violently, a look of pain appearing on his face. As the Gray-Clad Elder withdrew his finger, a gray-white phantom suddenly emerged at his brow, shining brightly.
At the same time, the Monarch aura enveloping Habea III melted away like snowflakes. In just a moment, the originally powerful presence shrank dramatically, dropping from the Quasi-Advanced level to what seemed to be Intermediate Level 5 in a matter of breaths. His complexion turned pale, and his already aged features appeared even more haggard.
Watching all this, Bu Xin's head shook violently, feeling a strong sense of vigilance towards the High-Level Gray-Clad Elder.
Just a trace of Divine Consciousness Projection could seal Habea III, who was at the Quasi-Advanced level. Although this was also due to Habea III not putting up any resistance, observing the Gray-Clad Elder's relaxed demeanor clearly indicated he still had strength to spare. Regardless of whether Habea III resisted or not, the outcome would not be favorable.
"Fortunately... I agreed to this pact of a single strike. Otherwise, if Sean Sterling and Elena faced this old man, even if they could defeat this trace of Divine Consciousness Projection, once the elder's true self arrived, the consequences would be dire.
Sean Sterling and Elena, as Judges of Holy Light Academy, would not be harmed by this elder... but my fate... would likely end in death."
As Bu Xin pondered these thoughts, Habea III had recovered from the weakness caused by being sealed in energy. His gaze turned cold as he approached Bu Xin with a sneer.
"Heart." Sean Sterling fixed his gaze on Bu Ban and finally uttered these two words. Elena also looked at Bu Xin; although she said nothing, her eyes no longer held the previous disdain and disgust but instead reflected recognition and encouragement.
Bu Wei smiled and nodded, watching as the two stepped back.
