Among the five matches, the battle in the Sixth Arena, where Reynold was located, ended the fastest. It concluded almost immediately after the conflict between Step and Beck began. The contestant challenging Reynold did not concede defeat, but having been struck by a ten-zhang Blade Light that sent him out of the Arena, his challenge was considered a failure.
In the other four Arenas, the contestant challenging Loret in the Third Arena indeed possessed some strength, ranking eleventh. If this level of skill were to challenge the defender in the Tenth Arena, victory would be unlikely.
Unfortunately, although Loret's strength was not yet at Quasi-Mid-Level, his Amplification Equipment was formidable. In the end, that challenger lost narrowly by a single move, completely missing the opportunity to enter the top ten and left the Arena with a look of unwillingness.
Aside from the Third Arena, the defenders in the Seventh, Ninth, and Tenth Arenas successfully defended their positions. Although their battles were extremely thrilling, they managed to maintain their top ten status and successfully earned qualifications as students of Holy Light Academy. Reaching this point could be considered a significant achievement.
Thus, the first round of challenges came to an end. In seven matches, no one died, but no one succeeded in their challenges either; it was a complete failure for all.
With the conclusion of this first round of challenges, the final ranking battles were about to begin. To ensure fairness and justice in these duels, all seven challenged defenders would have half an hour to rest and recuperate before the ranking battles officially commenced.
"This year's Qualification Challenge contestants may not match last year's peak strength, but in terms of overall capability, they are certainly comparable or even superior. Your strength is commendable; however, if you do not use your Ethereal Thirteen Swords' tenth sword, you may still find it difficult to defeat Gaia."
Taking advantage of this half-hour break, Elena unexpectedly started a casual conversation with Step as if her earlier anger had merely been for show.
"Huh?" Step was taken aback for a moment before responding with curiosity, "Are you referring to Ben, who is now a Star Student at Holy Light Academy and was last year's strongest contender? And how do you know that if I don't use my tenth sword from Ethereal Thirteen Swords, I won't be able to defeat Gaia? Is his strength really that formidable?"
As he spoke, Step instinctively glanced at Gaia sitting cross-legged in the central Arena, seemingly feeling somewhat unconvinced.
Elena covered her mouth and chuckled lightly; her bright eyes sparkled with enchanting light as she smiled charmingly. "Who else could it be but Ben? Not to discourage you, but Ben's strength had already reached the peak of Intermediate Level ten years ago when he participated in last year's Qualification Challenge. He had opened over forty Acupoints within him and was truly a peerless talent on the verge of stepping into Level 4 at just nineteen years old.
Such qualifications would make him an exceptional figure even among the top ten intermediate dynasties. Your Crook Duchy is indeed fortunate to have produced one like him.
In your current Qualification Challenge, while there are many contestants, only you and Gaia—both around twenty years old—can be considered true talents capable of entering Intermediate Level. The others are merely slightly above average in qualifications.
The reason I believe it will be difficult for you to defeat Gaia is simply that you have only just stepped into Intermediate Level and have not yet learned any Secret Techniques. In contrast, Gaia entered Intermediate Level over a year ago. Although he is two years older than you, this has allowed him to accumulate substantial depth in his abilities.
From observing the energy fluctuations emanating from him, I suspect he has already opened more than twenty Acupoints and has likely learned Secret Techniques passed down from their Arthur Royal Family. Even if he is only a beginner at these techniques and may not fully unleash their power due to insufficient mastery, it is still far superior to your lack of any Secret Technique training."
From this perspective, Gaia is already twice as powerful as you in terms of energy alone, not to mention his Excellence Level gear and the various combat techniques he has mastered. When it comes to overall combat strength, I don't have high hopes for you.
It's going to be difficult for you to win against him in the end." In the end, Elena shook her head with a half-smile, seemingly enjoying Step's unpleasant expression.
However, the next scene was bound to disappoint Elena. After hearing everything she said, Step showed no signs of frowning or distress. Instead, he appeared deep in thought, his eyes gleaming with sharpness, as if he felt no surprise or defeat from her words. All that was present was an increased seriousness, filled with fighting spirit and confidence.
"What an interesting child. He must have quite a few tricks up his sleeve. I seem to be starting to understand why Sean Sterling values him so much. No matter when or where, he never gives up easily and never loses confidence in himself; he is full of determination," Elena remarked with some surprise, her gaze toward Step gradually revealing a hint of admiration.
“Brent!” At that moment, a voice called out, bringing both Step and Elena out of their contemplation. They turned their attention to see Kalandor running toward them in the Arena, followed by two Blue-clad Servants, each carrying a large box about half a meter long.
Upon seeing Kalandor suddenly appear, a smile spread across Step's face, especially when he noticed the two large boxes held by the Blue-clad Servants, his eyes revealing a glimmer of joy.
Earlier, Kalandor had disappeared because he had gone to collect debts from Habea III. After making a demand for the blood of five level 5 Intermediate warriors, Habea III still owed Step ten requests.
Considering that his previous Stone Devourer Leather Armor had been destroyed and his current Amplification Equipment was quite poor, Step decided without hesitation to use the remaining requests to ask Habea III for Excellence Level Amplification Gear.
However, due to the ongoing duel, it was difficult for him to step away. Thus, he entrusted this matter to Kalandor. Given their relationship—though not life-and-death friends, they were close enough to be considered good friends—Kalandor readily agreed.
"Was everything smooth? Did that Old Guy give you any trouble?" Step jumped down from the Arena, approaching Kalandor with a smile. He spoke freely and openly, directly referring to Habea III as the Old Guy in front of others.
"Haha." Kalandor laughed and shook his head. "The king didn't give me any trouble. However, your bold request for an entire set of Exquisite gear did make him furious; his face turned pale with anger. It wasn't unexpected that he refused."
"Oh?" Step raised an eyebrow and then looked at the two respectful Blue-clad Servants carrying the boxes. He smiled and said, "Given this situation, it seems like you've already secured what we need. You didn't use up all my remaining ten requests just because he refused you, did you?" With that, Step took one of the boxes from a Blue-clad Servant and opened it.
Inside lay a pair of pitch-black Wrist Guards, along with a pair of purple-black shoes emitting arcs of electricity. The moment he opened the box, the arcs dancing on the shoes crackled loudly. When Step's hand brushed against these electric sparks while holding the box, he felt a momentary numbness.
"Hmm? These two pieces of Amplification Equipment are quite good," remarked Elena, who had also approached to take a closer look at the items inside the box.
"Of course, it's great, but Brent, acquiring this Amplification Equipment comes at a significant cost. You've already used five of your ten remaining requests from His Majesty, trading one request for one Exceptional Equipment. I initially wanted to ask for an Exquisite sword for you, but when it comes to weapons, His Majesty flatly refused, stating that even the remaining five requests wouldn't be enough for a single weapon."
Kalandor first wore a proud expression, as if obtaining this equipment was an immensely gratifying achievement. However, by the end, his face turned to one of helplessness and regret, seemingly unable to come to terms with not being able to secure an Exquisite sword for Bu.
"Five requests," Bu Mei said with a slight frown, which soon relaxed into a resigned smile. "Well, it seems that this Exquisite Amplification Equipment is indeed rare. Otherwise, Habea III, despite being quite unpleasant, wouldn't be so upset as a ruler. Tsk tsk, so within these two boxes are five pieces of Exceptional Equipment."
Upon hearing this, the two Blue-clad Servants standing beside Bu lowered their heads even further, appearing as if they hadn't heard anything and dared not listen.
Elena, however, laughed without restraint, covering her mouth as her ample bosom swayed enticingly, nearly causing Kalandor's eyes to bulge out. She pointed at Bu and giggled while shaking her head. "Your words are so sly; it's hard to tell if you're praising or insulting someone while going around in circles."
Bu lifted his chin slightly, as if to say that she understood well enough. He then placed the box back into the arms of one Blue-clad Servant and took the second box from another.
The second box felt slightly heavy in his hands. Under Kalandor's proud gaze, Bu opened it and discovered three garments stacked inside.
These garments were dark purple in color and appeared to be made from the scales of some magical beast. They resembled the previous pair of dark purple shoes that emitted arcs of electricity; however, their surface did not have any arcs dancing about. Instead, they were adorned with many mysterious alchemical runes that flickered intermittently. Strange waves emanated from these runes, slowly spreading outwards.
"Truly worthy of being Exquisite-level Amplification Equipment," Bu Shen breathed out, a hint of delight appearing in his eyes as he focused again and streams of information flowed into his mind.
