Looking at the towering city wall before him, over a hundred feet high and intricately carved with countless totems and mythical beasts, a sense of ancient grandeur akin to a slumbering dragon stirred his soul. The city gate resembled a divine pathway, exuding endless majesty and a sense of time-worn history. On either side of the gate, two Divine Dragons clung to the walls, vividly alive, giving off an impression that they could spring to life and devour anyone who dared approach.
Bu Shen took a breath, revealing a bitter smile. Such a grand city seemed almost otherworldly, like a palace where deities resided in a dream. Just the hundred-foot-long wall stretching for miles would overshadow the Great Wall of China from his previous world, making it hard to imagine how much manpower and resources were required to build such a city.
Shaking off a feeling of humble reverence, he tugged at the somewhat dazed Kalandor beside him and then kicked Ivan, who was also looking bewildered behind him. He then leaped off the back of Green Dome and hurried toward Elena and Wendy.
"Hey, boss, do you think we have any hope of entering the Outer Gate of Holy Light Academy?" Kalandor snapped back to reality and eagerly followed Bu.
"Uh, you might want to ask the second-in-command about that; he might have some connections," Bu replied dismissively as he landed on the ground amidst Wendy's cheerful laughter. Amy politely thanked Elena before also jumping down.
"Entering the Outer Gate?" Elena's expression was strange as she glanced at Kalandor, who was excitedly running toward Reynold.
"Does the beautiful Lady Elena have any ideas?" Seeing Elena's expression, Bu felt there might be hope and teased her.
"Hmph." Elena shot Bu a glare that nearly captivated Wendy. "The conditions for entering the Outer Gate are actually quite simple: one must be under twenty-five years old with strength at Low-Level and offer five hundred thousand Silver Kall. After passing a simple assessment, if successful, one can join the Outer Gate."
"Cough cough." Bu felt as if he had been choked by saliva, left speechless. Five hundred thousand Silver Kall? Was that really considered simple? He could guess what Elena meant next; if one failed the assessment, that five hundred thousand Silver Kall would not be refunded by Holy Light Academy—essentially just an application fee for the assessment.
"Do you think Holy Light Academy is easy to enter? Even for the Outer Gate, only carefully selected individuals are admitted. Otherwise, despite years of recruiting students, even excluding those who left the academy, the number of Outer Gate Students would still exceed one hundred thousand."
Elena could tell what Bu was thinking just by looking at his expression. With a disdainful lift of her brow, she ignored him afterward and leaped down from the massive white eagle's back, waving her hand to send it away.
"Uh." After getting brushed off, Bu Xin cursed Kalandor under his breath while awkwardly pulling Wendy's hand as they left in embarrassment. Amy followed behind them, stifling her laughter.
"The capital is protected by thirty-six powerful formations; only High-Level Giants can fly in the air. You need to verify your identity to enter the city. Stick with me; don't wander off elsewhere or you might get trapped in a formation—it would be troublesome."
Sean Sterling tossed a red Magic Core to Green Dome and patted its massive crest as it flapped its wings and soared into the sky.
"Let's go; we need to catch up."
Seeing Sean Sterling head toward the city gate after sending Green Dome away, Bu glanced at Wendy and playfully brushed her nose before calling Locke and Ivan. The four of them followed closely behind Sean Sterling. Kalandor and Reynold murmured as they trailed along too; the dark-skinned boy remained silent beside Reynold.
Bu's group was among the last to enter the city. Through the barrier, they could see some figures ahead. Just as they approached the city gate, Elena's curvaceous silhouette stood quietly in place, her hair blowing gently in the wind, creating an alluring scene. Especially striking was her long neck resembling white jade—noble yet exuding an air of elegance.
"Brent, is Sister Elena waiting for us?" Wendy asked with wide blue eyes as she gazed at Bu.
Bu glanced at Sean Sterling's back ahead and whispered into Wendy's ear, "Sister Elena is waiting for someone with an icy demeanor—not us."
"Who are you?"
A cold voice echoed in Bu's mind, instantly stiffening his expression as he awkwardly embraced the confused Wendy to ease the tension.
"Everyone, gather behind me and let's enter the city together." Sean Sterling waved his hand, revealing a starry badge. On both sides of this badge was engraved the character for "Holy," clearly an identity symbol issued by the Holy Light Academy to each student.
Once Bu and the others had gathered, Sean Sterling calmly pressed the badge against the barrier ahead.
Without a sound, it seemed as if a piece of fabric had been cut in half; the shimmering barrier split open, and at that moment, it flowed apart like water, forming an oval light gate over a person's height, radiating strange waves.
"Let's go." Sean Sterling retracted the identity badge and strode confidently into the gate. Without hesitation, Bu quickly pulled the curious Wendy in after him, followed by Locke and the others.
Upon entering the barrier, Bu discovered a towering flag standing high on the distant city wall. Squinting to see clearly, he noticed that on the black banner, a large character for "Holy" danced in silver strokes. Beneath that flag, shadowy figures stood obscured by the battlements, but an indescribable aura of solemnity emanated from them, resembling hellish warriors.
"The Imperial Capital has a total of eight gates. The two southern gates are under the jurisdiction of my Holy Light Academy. The guards on that wall are all students from our Outer Gate who take turns guarding the city. Each day they earn Honor Points for such tasks, which are quite popular among these Outer Gate Students."
As they followed Sean Sterling toward the city gate, everyone listened to his introduction and gradually learned more about the Holy Light Academy.
"In our academy, outsiders cannot enter without an invitation. Brent, leave your friends to me; I will arrange for them to stay at an inn outside the academy. Once Xiao Xiao leads you and Reynold into the academy to receive your Identity Tokens, you can bring them inside."
Upon reaching the city gate, Elena Niana welcomed them and instructed Bu.
"Thank you very much." Bu nodded and didn't hesitate further; he smiled as he ruffled Wendy's hair before instructing Locke and the others to follow Elena's arrangements.
Reynold turned back to remind the dark-skinned boy to stay with everyone and settle in first.
"Brent, once you're done with your business, come find me," Wendy said as she traced circles in Bu's palm with her finger, making him grin.
"Go ahead; don't wander around after settling in. I'll come find you once I'm done," Bu replied with a warm smile, lightly tapping Wendy's smooth forehead before shifting his gaze to Ivan.
"Don't worry, Master. Locke and I will ensure Mistress's safety."
Ivan understood Bu's intent and quickly agreed.
The group set off again, passing through the wide city gate. Elena led Wendy and the others away while Bu exchanged glances with Reynold before following Sean Sterling toward the direction of Holy Light Academy.
Holy Light Academy occupied nearly half of the southern area of the Imperial Capital. Within ten miles of its boundaries, there were no buildings; the open space resembled a vast plaza that highlighted the grand and sacred presence of Holy Light Academy sprawling before them like a colossal entity.
As they moved forward, a wide road was flanked by rows of statues. These statues were not made of stone but were cast from an unknown metal. From the expressions and postures of these figures, it was evident that they represented powerful individuals who could stir the winds and clouds. Together, these statues seemed to form a great force, instilling a sense of awe in those walking along the road, as if they were on a pilgrimage.
The depth of this place, the foundation of a top-tier Major Force, could be felt just from this road leading to the gates of Holy Light Academy. In comparison, the entire Crook Duchy seemed like an ant next to an elephant, shattering any preconceived notions.
"This is the Dawn Road at the main entrance of the academy. The statues along this road are of those who have made significant contributions to Holy Light Academy throughout history, including elders of the academy, several past deans, and some students who have brought great honor to the institution."
Sean Sterling walked slowly, seemingly allowing Reynold and Bu Shuang to take in the statues around them.
"In one month, the trial of the Path of Holy Light will begin. Your future status within the academy will depend on your performance in the Holy Light Trial. If you can obtain any title from One King, Three Dukes, Seven Generals, your standing within the academy will rise dramatically, and you will receive substantial support from it."
"One King, Three Dukes, Seven Generals," Bu Shuang's eyes lit up as she looked at Sean Sterling.
"In the Path of Holy Light, everything relies on seizing opportunities. Whether you form a team or act alone, it all comes down to competition—seizing Honor Points from others, claiming resources and treasures within the trial grounds, and taking possession of all valuable items. If anyone can snatch a Radiant Gold from the hands of the Lava King in the trial grounds, then they may have a chance to become a king."
"Snatch a Radiant Gold from the Lava King?" Reynold exclaimed in shock, his face filled with disbelief.
"What’s wrong?" Seeing Reynold's astonished expression, Bu Shuang looked puzzled.
