According to Eve's plan, they aimed to reach Yin Mountain before Byron and his group, find a hidden place to take refuge, and observe the conflict from a distance. When the time was right, they would sneak into the cave of the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast, retrieve the White Bone Ghost Lotus, and escape quickly. Hong Lian and Eve would provide cover from the shadows, remaining hidden unless necessary to intervene.
Bu possessed Viscount Bloodwing, matching the flight speed of High-Level Giants. Although the Two-Headed Lizard had impressive flight speed, only those at Intermediate Level 4 or above could compete with him; the younger Two-Headed Lizards could not match his speed. According to Eve, Byron also had a rare Flying Contract Beast, specifically an Intermediate Level Azure Cloud Eagle.
While the Azure Cloud Eagle may lack combat prowess, its flight speed was exceptional. To prevent any unforeseen incidents, Eve would take action if necessary, playing the Flute Sound to use the Mind Manipulation Technique and ensure Bu's safe escape.
The three chatted as they walked, maintaining a brisk pace. With Hong Lian's imposing presence deterring threats, they encountered no magical beasts or poisonous creatures. Eve keenly observed this oddity but, being as clever as she was, attributed it to some secret treasure that Bu and Hong Lian carried to intimidate the beasts.
"This is good; it saves us trouble and allows us to catch up with Byron and the others on Yin Mountain," Eve thought to herself while occasionally leaning closer to Hong Lian to engage in conversation. This behavior amused Bu An; however, given his Avatar's cold demeanor, he clearly did not reciprocate her affections.
Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, Eve bent down under Bu's curious gaze and scanned the surroundings for a moment. She discovered some broken twigs and footprints.
"A group has already ascended the mountain. From the traces left behind, there are quite a few of them. However, it's still uncertain if it's Byron's group. Let's hurry up the mountain; we will know the answer soon enough. Given Byron's domineering nature, he will definitely clear out any adventurers lingering on Yin Mountain."
Bu's eyes flickered with doubt as he looked at Eve and asked, "Adventurers who can stay in this Black Abyss Ravine year-round must possess considerable strength and are likely desperate individuals. Does Byron really have the audacity to offend everyone?"
"Hah," Eve chuckled lightly. "You underestimate Byron too much. The adventurers wandering in this Black Abyss Ravine are mostly mercenaries or thieves engaged in black market dealings; their strength isn't particularly formidable. It's rare for even a few to reach Intermediate Level 4. With Byron at Intermediate Level 5 and accompanied by six loyal followers at Intermediate Level 4, he is more than capable of sweeping through any adventurers on Yin Mountain."
"The only ones Byron needs to be cautious of are a few dangerous individuals who are being hunted by Major Forces and have nowhere else to turn but hide in Black Abyss Ravine. These people are strong and possess various hidden methods; however, they generally avoid provoking Byron unless absolutely necessary and prefer peaceful negotiations."
"I see," Bu said while rubbing his nose, pondering whether he could also be considered a dangerous individual given his circumstances.
"Hey! There's already been fighting up ahead; let's go take a look!" Eve suddenly nudged Bu and handed him a Long-Range Detector resembling a telescope while pointing toward a direction halfway up the mountain.
Bu stepped forward without wasting words, holding the Long-Range Detector in front of him. As he looked in the direction indicated, the mist cleared, revealing a vast expanse of trees on the mountainside. In a position slightly to the left, there was a sudden commotion among the trees, with several strange birds bursting out from various spots and scattering in different directions.
"Let's go." He tossed the Long-Range Detector back to Eve and moved first up the mountain, while Hong Lian followed closely behind, her Mental Power expanding and spreading.
One zhang, two zhang, ten zhang, one hundred zhang—Hong Lian's Mental Power spread outwards, covering a wide area and clearly detecting everything around them. However, as the three continued to ascend, the presence of mist caused Hong Lian's coverage area to shrink rapidly.
Along the way, they discovered numerous signs of battle, with several battlefields still bearing the remains of magical beasts. The blood had not yet dried, filling the air with a pungent metallic scent.
In one of these battlefields, Bu found several human corpses, all male, their bodies riddled with wounds from sharp weapons. Their faces were unrecognizable, and any valuables had been stripped away. One unfortunate Fellow was left completely bare; even in the underworld, he would likely be considered a beggar.
As they moved forward, Bu suddenly halted his steps and looked toward a thicket about ten zhang ahead. From the feedback of Hong Lian's Mental Power, he sensed something resembling crystal hidden within the thicket, emitting faint fluctuations that were quite peculiar.
"What’s wrong?" Eve asked curiously as she followed Bu's gaze. After observing for a while, she noticed nothing unusual.
Bu Shuang's eyes glimmered with thought. After pondering for a moment, he spoke: "It seems we need to change our direction up the mountain; this place appears to have some traps set." He pointed toward the thicket ten zhang away and said to Eve: "There’s something like crystal hidden there that occasionally emits fluctuations. My Mental Power detected that these fluctuations are directed toward where the battle broke out ahead."
"That’s a Shadow Crystal," Eve exclaimed softly. After glancing around for a moment, she pulled Bu back a few steps and said: "I didn’t expect your Mental Power to be so formidable; you can extend it this far even in Yin Mountain. You should check if there are any other Shadow Crystals nearby."
"There aren’t any; this area only has that one in the thicket," Bu replied without hesitation. At this position, Hong Lian's Mental Power had shrunk to fifty zhang; within that range, nothing could escape her detection.
"Good," Eve sighed in relief as she patted her chest. Her injuries seemed to have healed after applying medicine; after several pats, her chest trembled slightly without showing any signs of pain.
"The function of Shadow Crystals is for surveillance and reconnaissance. Once someone approaches within five zhang of it, their image will be recorded and transmitted to the user. Luckily you noticed it early; we didn’t get too close. However, since there is a Shadow Crystal here, it confirms one thing: that group ahead must be Byron and his team. We need to be more cautious moving forward."
Eve lightly brushed her hair behind her ear and gazed seriously at Bu before casting a glance at Hong Lian, feeling somewhat reassured.
"Let’s change direction," Bu pondered for a moment before leading the way after Hong Lian had checked the path thoroughly.
A moment later, Bu's expression had turned somewhat unpleasant, and Eve, following behind, also wore a gloomy face, while Hong Lian remained unchanged, her demeanor still cold.
"I didn't expect Byron and the others to have set up Shadow Crystals on the main path to the mountain peak. Now we only have one route to ascend without being detected by them," Eve said, her brows tightly knitted as she pointed her jade-like finger at her forehead, gazing toward the mist-covered northwest.
"That place..." Bu's expression shifted as if recalling something, and he slowly nodded. "Indeed, this is the only path left, but it's not an easy one."
"Even if it's difficult, we have to take it. The battle at the halfway point has already ceased for a while. The terrain at the top of Yin Mountain is narrow; if we don't hurry up, there won't even be a suitable hiding place left for us. How can we talk about seizing opportunities then?" Eve's expression was tinged with urgency, making her look particularly cute.
Bu Mei furrowed his brow lightly and looked toward the misty northwest. Through Hong Lian's Mental Power sensing, he discovered numerous Poison Bee nests clustered in the branches of trees in that area. These Poison Bees were densely packed, with no fewer than a hundred hives covering the entire main path leading to the mountain peak.
These Poison Bees were not magical beasts; individually, a normal person could easily crush one with two fingers. However, these Poison Bees had lived in the Black Abyss Ravine for years, feeding on Toxic Pollen that had been eroded by mist all day long. As a result, each Poison Bee possessed terrifying toxicity; once stung, even a Mid-Level Warrior would experience paralysis for half a day before recovering.
If faced with an overwhelming attack from these Poison Bees, unless one could manipulate Earth Power to unleash large-scale Destruction-type attacks like a High-Level Giant, no one could escape unscathed.
"Since we've decided to take this route, you should stay here for now. With your strength, unless you play the Flute Sound to launch a mental attack, you won't be able to pass through. But once the Flute Sound plays, it will inevitably reach Byron and the others' ears; that would be too much of a surprise," Bu said, feeling troubled as he looked at Eve with some helplessness.
These Poison Bees were ordinary creatures with almost no intelligence. Hong Lian's overwhelming pressure and murderous aura had no effect on them; it was like a gentle breeze passing by. They would still attack intruders without hesitation when necessary, making this a significant obstacle.
