At the top of Yin Mountain, chaos reigned as nearly a hundred Two-Headed Lizards circled in the air, emitting piercing wails. On the ground below them lay dozens of Two-Headed Lizard corpses, interspersed with severed human limbs. Looking towards a mountain path, several massive Two-Headed Lizards roared in anger, spreading their wings as they chased after four figures hiding and fleeing in the forest.
The Two-Headed Lizard King Beast hovered in the air, coldly observing everything but did not join the chase. It let out a roar, and gradually the wailing of the surrounding Two-Headed Lizards quieted down. They flapped their wings and returned to the ground. Once everything was back on track, the over twenty-foot-long Two-Headed Lizard King Beast shook its head and leisurely returned to its cave.
Inside the cave where Eve and Hong Lian were, silence prevailed. Eve's expression showed signs of anxiety and worry, which turned into frustration as she looked at Hong Lian's unusually calm face.
"Are you even human? Your brother hasn’t sent any news yet, and now the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast has returned to its cave. He’s definitely in grave danger, yet you remain so indifferent." Unable to contain her frustration any longer, Eve couldn't help but scold Hong Lian, her gaze filled with confusion and anger.
"Do you like him?" A cold voice broke through, causing Eve's furious expression to freeze. Hong Lian slowly opened his eyes, his narrow gaze fixed on her.
"How could that be? I'm just worried he might not come back. If he doesn't, I won't get my White Bone Ghost Lotus." After a moment of hesitation, Eve finally replied nervously. Once she finished speaking, she let out a sigh of relief as her heart raced like a startled deer.
Upon hearing this, Hong Lian remained silent. His calm eyes stared intently at Eve, his gaze filled with an unsettling tranquility that seemed to see through her heart.
Under such scrutiny, Eve felt increasingly uneasy, as if she had committed some wrongdoing. Her thoughts became a tangled mess until she finally straightened her back and raised her chin defiantly, trying to mask her inner turmoil with an air of confidence.
"Let’s go." The slightest hint of a raise appeared at the corner of Hong Lian's brow as he slowly stood up and walked towards Eve.
"Where to?" Eve was taken aback and instinctively asked back. But as soon as she spoke, she felt a flash of Red Shadow before her eyes, and suddenly her whole body was lifted off the ground. "Ah! What are you doing?"
"Be quiet!"
As she lay in Hong Lian's arms, Eve's dark purple hair flew in the wind, intertwining with his blood-red hair to create a beautiful scene. The surroundings blurred past her vision as they moved swiftly through layers of thick mist. Occasionally, distant roars echoed around them—those roars came from the Two-Headed Lizards.
Lying in Hong Lian's embrace felt warm; the roars that reached her ears held no terror. Instead, they filled Eve with an overwhelming sense of safety. Her light purple eyes became dreamy as she sensed a familiar aura from Hong Lian—an aura belonging to someone who had once held her similarly while navigating through a swarm of Poison Bees.
"Damn Fellow," Eve murmured dreamily with a hint of a smile as memories flooded back to her—the first time they met when that annoying Fellow had injured her right chest; even now there was a faint mark on her skin.
Lost in thought, she suddenly felt a rush of embarrassment and playful annoyance as she recalled how that Fellow had touched her left chest—something no one else had ever done—and had apologized in a way that made her heart tremble.
"Are you him?" Looking up at Hong Lian's cold face, she noticed the indifference between his brows and the calmness in his eyes—his demeanor was completely different yet so familiar. The same appearance, the same aura.
"It’s just like when he apologized back then; that sudden indifference left me feeling disappointed." As these thoughts crossed her mind, Eve's gaze grew more entranced. Unbeknownst to her, in her heart, the shadows of Bu and Hong Lian began to overlap into one person—a person she suddenly found herself caring about.
"Who are you?" Eve's lips curled into a faint smile, her eyes shimmering with a dreamlike hue. Her delicate hand rested on Hong Lian's chest as she exhaled softly and asked.
As they moved forward, Hong Lian's body trembled, and he suddenly looked at the woman in his arms. For the first time, there was a ripple in his calm gaze.
The gaze from her eyes sparkled with an incomprehensible expression, and the smile at the corner of her mouth held a meaning he could not grasp. However, these were not the main points that caused his eyes to waver or disturbed his tranquil heart; it was her sudden question.
"Who are you?"
"What did she see? Does she know my identity, hence this question?"
The ripples in Hong Lian's heart expanded like waves breaking in an ancient well that had been calm for a thousand years. His consciousness was born from Bu; at this moment, Bu fell into a coma. Therefore, he was Bu. His thoughts, though influenced by Hong Lian's indifference, still held his own concerns.
This concern was about being an External Avatar, which must not be known to outsiders. He had been forged by Star God Ethan and was once an Earth Spirit of Demigod Stage. Such matters were enough to cause an uproar across the Fran Continent. Regardless of who learned of it, it would bring about fatal consequences.
Thus, apart from Lange, who granted him the External Avatar, Bu chose not to disclose this matter to anyone else, including Wendy. This concealment did not signify distrust but stemmed from safety considerations.
After all, the Fran Continent was filled with powerful individuals skilled in Mental Techniques capable of manipulating hearts. If such experts inadvertently discovered this matter, Bu believed that his life would no longer belong to him at that moment.
"What are you doing?" With vigilance rising within him, Hong Lian's expression grew colder. He quickened his pace and darted into the massive cave of the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast amidst the thick fog.
Bu felt a complex emotion towards Eve. This feeling could not be described as affection or fondness; it was more than mere indifference from a chance encounter.
In less than a day of interaction, although their relationship could not be termed harmonious, it felt as if they had experienced a cycle of seasons together. Each had left a deep mark in the other's heart—a seemingly vague figure belonging to one another—creating an inexplicable sentiment during their interactions that fluctuated between closeness and distance, warmth and coldness.
Suddenly, the light dimmed, and with Hong Lian's icy words echoing out, Eve seemed to awaken from some dreamlike state like a startled rabbit. After a low gasp, her flushed cheeks appeared strikingly vivid even in the darkness of the cave, causing Hong Lian to pause momentarily.
"N-nothing! I just wanted to ask your name! Oh, never mind! Let's hurry and save that Fellow! Where are we now? Are we in the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast's cave?" In her flustered state, Eve stumbled over her words; her crimson cheeks blushed all the way to her earlobes as she jumped from topic to topic with remarkable agility.
In this state of Eve's, after recovering from his momentary daze, Hong Lian secretly sighed in relief. Although he wasn't a seasoned romantic, he wasn't completely oblivious either. Seeing Eve's genuine fluster and her face flushed to her roots made it clear to him that she had merely fallen into the infatuation common among young women.
"Silence!" Realizing he was merely being paranoid, even Hong Lian's cold demeanor showed signs of irritation as he activated Step Nine and flew away directly.
Not long after moving forward, a terrifying roar suddenly echoed through the cave. The sound reverberated through the cavernous space with such intensity that even some rock walls trembled under its force, sending dust cascading down.
Eve's face turned pale, and a hint of worry flashed in her eyes as she tightened her grip on Hong Lian's collar and asked softly, "Is Fellow going to be okay?"
"Mm." Hong Lian replied calmly.
"Ah?" Eve was stunned, staring blankly at Hong Lian, unsure of what to do.
At that moment, Hong Lian's pace gradually slowed. A serious look crossed his cold eyes; they were about to reach the cave, and he couldn't afford to be careless against the formidable strength of the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast.
"I am severely injured and currently unconscious. However, the last explosion's shockwave inadvertently pushed me into the rock wall. That location is in a remote corner deep within the cave, so I should not be discovered by the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast for a while."
While pondering this, Hong Lian held Eve close and stepped cautiously toward the cave.
He had no intention of letting Eve go to walk on her own at this moment. He wasn't foolish enough to think she could manage on her own; she was still injured, and walking along this bone-laden path could easily attract the attention of the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast.
Eve's face flushed red. She felt conflicted; her modesty made her want to escape from Hong Lian's embrace. Yet, as soon as that thought arose, she felt the warmth and safety of being in his arms and recognized that familiar scent. A sense of attachment inexplicably blossomed within her heart, making it impossible for her to voice her desire to be let down as she had before.
"What should I do? Eve, are you crazy? Do you really want to devour both of them?" Lost in her thoughts, Eve was startled by her sudden impulse. Her cheeks flushed crimson as she covered her face with her hands and emitted a low whimper, leaving Hong Lian somewhat bewildered.
