"I overlooked one thing," Bu suddenly sat up from the ground, his eyes flickering as thoughts raced through his mind, quickly realizing the problem.
"The secret of Avatar has likely been discovered by that old monster." A warning sign arose in his heart, and Bu Mei's brows furrowed, feeling a sense of foreboding.
"What's wrong?" Eve noticed Bu's sudden change in expression and sensed that something must have happened, prompting her to ask.
Bu shook his head, glanced at Eve, and refrained from voicing his suspicions. The Avatar was one of his biggest secrets, and he would not easily share such a secret with anyone.
Eve, with her keen intellect and lively thoughts, noticed Bu's reluctance to elaborate. She wisely chose not to press further but felt a slight discomfort in her heart. After experiencing a series of incidents along the way, she had unknowingly developed some feelings for the man before her. Although these feelings were just budding, once a woman like her became interested, it could quickly spiral out of control.
"Hey, I still don't know your name. You wouldn't be unwilling to tell me that too, would you?" Feeling somewhat gloomy, Eve's tone carried a hint of melancholy as her light purple eyes fixed intently on Bu. The unusual color in her gaze was something anyone not emotionally oblivious could understand.
"Uh, my name is Brent," Bu replied absentmindedly, caught off guard by Eve's question and clearing his throat.
"You're lying!" Eve frowned, her expression darkening. Her lips curled up in a pout as the light in her eyes gradually dimmed, clearly displeased with Bu for still withholding information.
Bu was puzzled this time and thought to himself that this woman might be a bit off. Growing somewhat impatient, he said, "It's just a name; what’s there to lie about?"
Seeing Bu's impatience only made Eve feel more dejected. However, she seemed to recall something and looked at Bu intently before shaking her head with a sigh. "I forgot that in today's Fran Continent, your people are no longer so purely stubborn and proud. Perhaps your name has been changed as well."
"Uh?" Bu was somewhat baffled. However, hearing Eve say this made him curious about how well she seemed to understand his people. He couldn't help but ask, "What do you mean by that?"
"What do I mean?" Eve's expression turned strange as she looked at Bu with a hint of sympathy that made him uncomfortable. Her gaze softened as she continued, "It seems your elders have hidden things very deeply from your generation. They probably didn't even share the names of your ancestors with you because they didn't want you to bear too much burden.
Your people’s pride is almost ingrained in their bones. The once-great clan that unified the entire Fran Continent and established the Hua Bao Super Empire has now declined to just a few branches.
To survive and continue their lineage, the strong branches chose to remain hidden while the weaker ones opted for vassalage. As far as I know, many branches of your clan have become vassals in various principalities because those principalities are the easiest to be consumed and replaced. They changed their names and identities while lurking in the shadows, hiding their ambitions deeply; some principalities have even become puppets for certain branches."
"Brent, which branch of your family do you belong to? You can't really not know your family's original surname."
Eve's gentle voice echoed in the vast cave, and Bu was lost in thought until the woman asked her question, snapping him back to reality. He shook his head and said, "I don't have any family branches. My parents are in another world, and I only have my older brother. Now, besides my fiancée and those friends, I have no relatives. I named myself Brent. What you just told me about the clan is the most detailed I've heard so far."
"Since clan members have their own surnames, I will be called Bu from now on, as a way to acknowledge my ancestry."
Eve glanced at the crimson lotus and then deeply gazed at Bu. She suddenly wanted to understand this enigmatic man before her and silently noted his name. Suddenly, she trembled slightly and stared at Bu with wide eyes, stammering as she asked, "Your fiancée?"
"Yes." Bu nodded, a smile curling at the corners of his mouth. He looked at the bright and charming Eve, aware of the strange emotions flickering in her eyes.
Indeed, he had felt a spark for Eve; after all, the events that had transpired were enough to transform their initial unfamiliarity into a deep connection and trust. It was unrealistic to think they could fully trust each other, but perhaps that was what fleeting beauty was all about.
Upon receiving Bu's affirmative answer, the intense sense of loss that had just surfaced in Eve's heart faded somewhat. She noticed the smile on Bu's face, which brought her a bit of comfort.
The Fran Continent has always adhered to the principle that strength commands respect. As long as one is strong, even a woman can have multiple partners. For Eve, whether Bu had a wife or not was not an issue. Although it made her feel uncomfortable, she wouldn't reject him or push away someone she had feelings for because of it.
"After this incident, I will return to the Mercenary group. What about you?" As they prepared to part ways, Eve's mood inevitably dipped slightly; however, she was more curious about Bu's future plans.
"I offended someone. My training here in Black Abyss Ravine is also to avoid trouble. After some time, I will return to the academy." Bu did not hide anything; in his view, aside from his three major secrets, there was nothing he couldn't share with Eve.
"Who did you offend? Are you a student of Holy Light Academy?" Upon hearing this from Bu, Eve immediately reacted with curiosity.
Bu nodded and self-deprecatingly said, "I might be the most unfortunate student among this year's Holy Light Academy recruits. I offended one of the top ten figures in the academy right after enrolling. Now I can only hide out here in Black Abyss Ravine."
"Are you from Holy Light Academy's Top Ten Radiant Suns? How did you offend such a powerful figure? Anyone among them possesses High-Level strength." Eve was clearly aware of the situation at Holy Light Academy; in the entire Dysia Kingdom, one might not know who the prince is, but they certainly cannot be unaware of Holy Light Academy's Top Ten Radiant Suns.
"I killed his brother." Bu's words were flat, but the underlying bloodiness made Eve hold her breath.
"Do you have a Transmitter?" Eve proactively shifted the topic.
Bu Qing raised an eyebrow and then took out a Transmitter from his Storage Bracelet.
"Give it to me." Eve extended her fair wrist, her skin glowing with a milky sheen as she took the Transmitter from Bu's hand. Closing her eyes, she left a mental imprint within the Transmitter.
"This way, we can easily contact each other in the future," Eve explained with a smile, her large eyes turning into crescent moons. After handing the Transmitter back to Bu, she took out a pink Transmitter shaped like a conch from her own Storage Bracelet and handed it over.
Bu smiled as he received it, mimicking Eve by leaving a mental imprint in the Transmitter before returning it to her.
"Let's go; it's about time we got that White Bone Ghost Lotus. We can't take such a big loss without collecting some interest," Bu said as he stood up, his face beaming with a smile.
"Do you have a way to deal with the Two-Headed Lizard King Beast?" Eve asked curiously as she rose gracefully.
Bu smiled without answering, his gaze shifting to the crimson lotus. He naturally took Eve's hand and activated Step Nine, soaring away with her.
The river flowed gently, droplets of crystal-clear water fell from the stalactites above, splashing on the surface and creating ripples. The Two-Headed Lizard King Beast snored thunderously, appearing to be sound asleep. With each breath, its massive body rose and fell, its cold scales glimmering ominously.
Amidst the gaps in the pile of bones, an unusual lotus flower swayed in the wind as if it had come to life. Its petals gently opened and closed, resembling breathing, creating an eerie atmosphere.
Arriving at the edge of a cave entrance with Eve, Bu Qing instructed, "You wait here. While that big Fellow is fast asleep, my brother and I will sneak closer to see if we can quietly pick the White Bone Ghost Lotus. If it wakes up, don't come near; just run straight outside the cave. We'll catch up after we succeed."
"You need to be careful." Eve understood that with her strength, she couldn't be of much help; at most, she could assist with Mental Technique. However, after saying this, she seemed to think of something, hesitated for a moment, then turned to leave but immediately grabbed Bu Qing's arm and said, "Wait."
"Hmm?" Bu looked over in confusion.
Eve didn't speak but instead quietly closed her eyes. One delicate hand lifted and lightly tapped Bu's forehead, transmitting a message through Mental Power.
"Ding!"
"System Notification: Acquired the secret technique Water God Technique, incomplete version."
Bu Shuang's eyes narrowed as he was about to enter the Skill Interface to check it out when he noticed that Eve's face had turned pale and she seemed to have lost all her strength, about to collapse to the ground.
"You!" He quickly reached out to support Eve's body. Bu soon realized what was happening and opened his mouth to speak, but under her faint and pale smile, he couldn't help but feel a tremor in his heart. How could he voice the blame? All he could do was let out a sigh.
