With a single move, Water God Induction, the atmosphere was completely stunned. Even the most resolute Reynold felt a hint of despair in the face of such a bizarre attack.
Bu An sighed, realizing he had gone too far this time. He hadn't even tested the group's actual strength before leaving them devoid of fighting spirit.
In truth, with his own true power, using Water God Induction could at most make Kalandor momentarily dazed, but controlling Kalandor's physical actions was entirely out of reach.
One finger guides the mind, another guides the soul.
This could only happen when there was a significant disparity in Mental Power or consciousness between both parties. Only then could one control the other's mind and make them act according to their will. If the difference in Mental Power was not substantial—at least three to five times—then controlling another's actions was impossible.
For instance, when Hong Lian fought Byron, he repeatedly used Water God Induction but could only cause Byron's mind to waver for a second or two, unable to fully control him. After all, an Intermediate Level 5 peak warrior's Mental Power was at least over thirty points, while Hong Lian's Mental Power was eighty-one points; he still couldn't achieve mind control.
Bu's Mental Power was only twenty-one points, while Kalandor's was at least fifteen points—there wasn't much difference. The reason Bu could control Kalandor with Water God Induction was entirely due to the immense support from Hong Lian embedded in his forehead.
This meant that as long as Bu wished, none of the people present could escape being controlled by Water God Induction. However, controlling everyone would lead to a terrifying drain on Mental Power. Even with the fusion of Hong Lian and Bu's Mental Power, it couldn't be sustained for long.
Reynold and the others were unaware of this. Bu appeared in a strange guise from the start, creating an impression of mystery and strangeness in everyone's minds. Following their brief encounter, Bu's strength further astonished them all.
Faced with such a mysterious and bizarre enemy, if he had come with malicious intent, they might have fought desperately. However, seeing that he seemed to harbor no ill will, they naturally became lax and lost the thought of continuing the fight.
"Are you not going to try again? I can refrain from using that last move. To compromise so easily—are you not planning to save this young lady?" Bu scanned the crowd with a hint of helplessness in his voice. He looked like a martial arts enthusiast eagerly anticipating a battle.
Reynold's gaze was sharp as he fixed his eyes on Bu and coldly replied, "Your strength is profound; we admit our inferiority. However, if you seek a sparring partner, you may have chosen the wrong targets. We are merely nameless individuals at Holy Light Academy. If you insist on fighting, let us do so openly without your concession. Just spare that young lady behind you; even if it costs me my life, I am willing to accompany you to the end!"
Reynold's words were powerful and resonant. He couldn't guess Bu's intentions but observed that all these actions were merely attempts to force them into battle. Although this explanation puzzled him greatly, it did not hinder his determination. As long as he could save Wendy from Bu’s hands, he would not feel ashamed upon Bu’s return.
"Indeed, you have captured my sister-in-law to coerce us into fighting you. With her at stake, how can we unleash our full strength? Just let her go; you need not wait for my leader’s return. If you want to fight, Kalandor will accompany you until the end."
Reynold’s declaration ignited a strong fighting spirit within everyone present. Kalandor, who had previously hesitated to avoid battle, suddenly felt ashamed for his earlier thoughts and stepped forward with determination etched on his face.
Seeing everyone’s fighting spirit rekindled, Bu An praised himself internally. If anyone among his brothers had the ability to stand alone against Bu, it would undoubtedly be Reynold. His resolute character allowed him to step up during critical moments; compared to him as their leader, Reynold felt more like an older brother who could awaken their strongest sides when morale was low.
"Brent, enough already! Look how frightened they are; they all seem like they're facing a great enemy." Wendy said as she sensed the suddenly oppressive atmosphere and felt uneasy. After all, she was still kind-hearted and worried that if things escalated further and someone got hurt, she wouldn't be able to bear it.
After all, everyone was concerned about her; if they continued watching without care despite knowing that Bu was just playing around, it would still feel somewhat inappropriate.
"What? Brent?" Upon hearing Wendy's sudden remark, Kalandor thought there was something wrong with his ears. He widened his eyes and stared at Step, then looked around before suddenly shouting, pointing at Step with a flushed face, "You bastard, did you use some Demonic Arts on my sister-in-law? Do you know what she just said?"
"Ah?" Wendy, who was walking towards Step, was momentarily stunned.
Reynold, Gordon, and the others also looked astonished. Only Ivan and Locke, who were in Stealth mode, reacted first, revealing themselves and exclaiming, "Master, is that you?"
Bu Ku laughed inwardly at Kalandor's foolishness. He then removed the Water God Concealment disguise, restoring his original appearance.
"It's me."
"Master." Ivan exclaimed, instantly beaming with joy.
After using Water God Concealment, Step not only changed his appearance but also altered his aura to resemble someone else entirely. Thus, despite having a master-servant contract with Step, they couldn't recognize him after he used Water God Concealment. Now that he revealed his true form and familiar aura without any disguise, Ivan and Locke immediately understood what was happening.
"Wait a minute, who are you? How could you possibly be my boss? Quickly tell me what your ulterior motives are." Seeing that Ivan and Locke were also "deceived," Kalandor felt the seriousness of the situation and became even more vigilant.
Reynold stared intently at Bu Ku for a while before finally letting out a sigh of relief. He felt a mix of surprise, joy, and frustration; after all this time, it turned out he had been played by Step.
"Why couldn't I be your boss?" Seeing Kalandor's defensive posture as if warding off a wolf, Step rolled his eyes and took Wendy's hand as he smiled and walked toward the group.
"My boss isn't as strong as you. Let go of my sister-in-law!" Kalandor moved closer to Step and reached out to grab his face but was dodged by Step.
"Since you already know it's me, why are you pretending? Are you itching for trouble?" Step swatted away Kalandor's hand again with some annoyance.
"Boo hoo hoo! You heartless one! The moment you return, you make me feel so embarrassed! You come back just to hit me like this; you must not be my boss. Yes, you're definitely an imposter."
As the saying goes, the more despicable a person is, the more pretentious they become. At that moment, Kalandor perfectly embodied this saying. He pushed Wendy aside and clung to Step, wiping his nose and tears on his clothes in an utterly shameless manner.
"Alright, Kalandor. If I'm not mistaken, he was just trying to test our strength. If you still want to fight him, then keep howling here," Reynold said with a smile as he approached and playfully punched Step's chest while his eyes sparkled brightly.
"I would love to fight; unfortunately, your improvement in strength is too slow. I'm not trying to discourage you; if you don't work harder to improve your abilities soon, you'll find yourself left behind even further. Don't say I'm not loyal for not giving you a chance to become the boss," Step said as he peeled Kalandor off him and laughed at Reynold.
"Master, have you broken through to Intermediate Level 4 now?" Locke asked as he moved closer to Step, his gaze filled with eagerness.
Reynold's body trembled as he looked at Bu, waiting for his answer.
Seeing the curious and expectant expressions on everyone's faces, Bu smiled and shook his head. "Not yet, but stepping into Intermediate Level 4 is not difficult. As for what I want or don't want, even if I were to fight a strong opponent at Intermediate Level 5 now, I wouldn't be afraid at all."
"Ah?" Kalandor exclaimed in surprise, his mouth agape.
"Brother Brent is amazing!" Amy said in admiration.
"Hey, hey, hey, I'm not trying to show off here. If you all look at me with such adoring eyes, you're going to spoil me," Bu said in an exaggerated tone.
"I really don't know how you trained. Was it that effective to train in Black Abyss Ravine? I should try it too," Kalandor said with a hint of envy. He had thought that his own progress from Quasi-Mid-Level to Intermediate Level in less than a month was impressive, but he didn't expect that his leader's speed of improvement was even faster.
"Cough, cough, it's nothing much," Bu replied. However, Kalandor's words made him choke slightly as he recalled the romantic days spent training in Black Abyss Ravine. He instinctively glanced at Wendy, feeling a bit guilty inside.
No one present noticed Bu's slight abnormality. Upon learning of his significant power increase, everyone felt delighted. Reynold and Kalandor were especially filled with fighting spirit; they regarded each other as both brothers and rivals, not wanting to fall too far behind one another.
"Come on, the food and drinks inside are getting cold. Let's go in. In three days, the Path of Holy Light trial awaits you and the second brother for a grand showdown that will make waves in the Holy Light," Kalandor said as he draped an arm over Bu and Reynold's shoulders, laughing heartily.
