Faced with the menacing presence of Brent, Daisy felt utterly helpless. She looked around at the others with pleading eyes, hoping they would intercede on her behalf. Unfortunately, aside from the kind-hearted Wendy, everyone else regarded her with cold indifference.
As the saying goes, good deeds are rewarded while evil deeds are punished; it is not that retribution does not come, but that the time has not yet arrived.
Now, however, was indeed the time for retribution. Wendy could overlook Daisy's collaboration with Kathy to capture her and threaten Brent, but that did not mean the others would do the same. Wendy could forgive Daisy for sneaking out to warn Day, but it did not mean everyone else would be so forgiving.
Daisy was still alive not because Reynold and the others did not want to kill her, but because everyone was waiting for Brent's return, waiting for him to handle this matter personally.
After all, it was Brent who initially spared Daisy's life and allowed her to become Wendy's servant. Even if someone wanted to eliminate this threat, they had to consider Wendy's feelings.
Now that Brent intended to take matters into his own hands and kill someone, they would not dissuade him nor plead for a traitor. This was the ironclad rule of their team: those who deceive others will ultimately be abandoned. Having made the choice to betray, one must also be prepared to face the consequences of being ostracized.
"Brent, you can kill her, but things are not as simple as you think. Even if you kill her, this matter may not remain hidden," Brent said slowly as he withdrew his hand from Wendy's grasp. Wendy's expression turned sorrowful as she revealed her long-held worries.
She had not wanted to bring this up, fearing it would implicate Brent and concern everyone else. Watching Brent kill Daisy—who had been by her side for over a month and had once shared laughter with her—was something she could hardly bear.
"What do you mean? What do you mean things can't be hidden anymore? Did someone spread this news?" Wendy's words startled Bu Xin, who had lost interest in Daisy and quickly turned to question Wendy.
His ominous premonition grew stronger. Warren Earl had warned him before, and Wendy's mother seemed deeply concerned. The entire Aldra Family was powerful; even the mysterious Hawk was hidden within it. Yet this family seemed to be avoiding something or guarding a secret.
Faced with Brent's inquiry, Wendy's face turned pale, and her eyes reddened as she clung to his arm and pleaded, "Promise me you won't make things difficult for Sister Daisy. What is meant to happen will happen in due time; it's beyond our control and cannot be avoided."
"What is going on?" Brent nearly lost his mind. He sensed something was off with Wendy; it seemed she knew some hidden truth but was reluctant to involve anyone else and had kept certain secrets buried deep inside.
"Sister-in-law, what happened? Did something occur? Come out with it; even if it's complicated, there are so many of us here—we can find a solution together," Kalandor said quickly, noticing the unusual situation.
"Yes, Sister Wendy, if you're facing difficulties, don't keep it all inside. We are friends; even if there are challenges, we will stand by you through thick and thin. When you asked us not to tell Brother Brent about your situation, we respected your wishes and kept quiet so he wouldn't worry. But now you can't hide anymore; doing so will only increase our concern for you."
Amy also chimed in at that moment. Having experienced tragedy herself and having no family left except for friends like Brent and the others, she regarded kind-hearted Wendy as a sister and naturally did not want anything bad to happen to her.
Listening to everyone's advice and feeling their concerned gazes upon her made Wendy's eyes redden even more. A mist of tears gathered in her eyes, making her look pitiful and causing Bu Xin great distress.
"There is no turning back now, Brent. Daisy's suspicions were correct; I am indeed a disciple of the Water Temple. The blood flowing within me seems to have awakened."
"What do you mean?" Brent grasped Wendy's shoulders, feeling on the verge of breaking down.
"Since my strength suddenly broke through to Quasi-Mid-Level, I have noticed that I seem to be a bit different. When I cultivate, my hair..." Wendy said, picking up a strand of her long hair. The blue strands, dreamy in appearance, unexpectedly began to emit a faint glow without warning. The light grew brighter and eventually floated gently, flowing like water.
Bu was stunned. He reached out his hand in disbelief to touch Wendy's blue hair, but his hand passed through the floating strands as if they were water, with no resistance at all; his entire arm completely penetrated.
"This..." Reynold was dumbfounded. Everyone stared in shock, including Daisy, who was seeing such a scene for the first time. She was so astonished that she forgot her fear and gazed blankly.
"If it were just these strange phenomena, I wouldn't be so sure that I must be a disciple of the Water Temple. I don't want to admit it; I don't want to leave you, Brent," Wendy said, tears welling up in her eyes and cascading down like silver threads, her face resembling a pear blossom.
"Who allowed you to leave me? Who has the right to separate us? As long as you don't want to, no one can separate us," Bu Xin said, filled with intense unease. He forced himself to calm down and held Wendy tightly to comfort her.
"Every night, I have a nightmare where a strange woman comes to take me away to the Water Temple to become this generation's Goddess. I don't want to dream of her, but recently the dream has become clearer. I can't forget the woman's appearance; I feel she is coming soon to take me to the Water Temple."
Wendy lay quietly in Bu's arms, as if she had lost her soul, murmuring softly while tears streamed down like rain.
"This is just a dream, Wendy; it's only a dream. You don't need to worry so much." Bu forced a smile and gently stroked Wendy's back. The girl gradually quieted down; her glowing floating hair slowly fell back into its natural state.
"Promise me not to make things difficult for Sister Daisy. If it truly is a calamity, then it is something we cannot escape from."
Whispering the last sentence softly, Wendy's eyelids drooped slightly as she fell into a deep sleep. Her brows furrowed tightly like distant mountains shrouded in mist, indicating she was not sleeping peacefully and seemed to be trapped in that terrifying nightmare again. But Bu did not wish to wake her; he held the girl close and let her sleep quietly in his embrace.
"You may go now, Wendy. Since I have pleaded for you, I will not kill you." Bu looked at Daisy, his murderous intent dissipating as he regained his calm demeanor.
Daisy said nothing but looked complexly at Wendy in Bu's arms before suddenly bowing deeply.
"Locke, escort her out," Bu said as he withdrew his gaze and carried Wendy toward the room.
"Take care of yourself," Amy snorted coldly and shot a glance at Daisy filled with hostility.
In her view, if it weren't for Daisy, Wendy would not have suddenly awakened the so-called bloodline of the Water Goddess. Having experienced many tragedies herself, she understood all too well what true happiness and misfortune were; she could see clearly what was fortunate and what was unfortunate.
Sometimes being ordinary isn't necessarily unhappy—especially for a kind girl like Wendy. Living a simple life with Bu would be what Wendy truly desired rather than becoming some Goddess of the Water Temple; that would be nothing but a cage.
The joy of returning had been diluted by Wendy's sudden incident. Before this, Wendy had concealed the truth about the situation; Reynold and the others were unaware of its severity. In response to Wendy's request, they had not informed Bu about it either.
To everyone, Wendy's strength had suddenly increased. Although the specific reason was unknown, it was ultimately a good thing, so initially, they did not take it too seriously, thinking that the Water Lotus Fragrance ignited by Daisy really had such strong effects and not considering any negative implications.
It wasn't until now that they realized the seriousness of the situation. Reynold regretted keeping this matter from Bu.
"Boss!" At the door of Wendy's room, everyone waited anxiously. When Bu stepped out, Kalandor called out lightly, his expression showing some worry.
Reynold also looked at Bu with an apologetic gaze, silently unsure of what to say.
"It's fine. Why does everyone look so gloomy?" Seeing their heavy expressions, Bu smiled. He noticed the apology in Reynold's eyes and stepped forward to pat him on the shoulder, indicating that he held no grudge against him.
"What do you plan to do now?" Reynold asked seriously, and Kalandor and the others also looked at Bu.
"Wendy's identity as a disciple of the Water Temple is almost certain. The mysterious woman she saw in her dream should not be false; rather, she is likely a powerful figure from the Water Temple who can communicate through dreams. Given the distance involved, her strength probably exceeds our imagination."
Bu Mianrong spoke solemnly, his tone heavy.
He was not Ivan; he did not have such a sense of luck and would not deceive himself into thinking that the content of Wendy's dream was merely a coincidence. It was likely just as Wendy said: that mysterious woman was already on her way here, getting closer to them with each passing moment.
