A cold wind, carrying a hint of wildness, swept in from the distant horizon, covering this desolate land under the deep night. The sounds of beastly roars, either mournful or fierce, echoed intermittently across this vast and bloody territory, spreading far and wide. Accompanied by the sound of the wind, dust was stirred up, and the branches and leaves of the trees rustled, creating an atmosphere of desolation and eeriness.
Mu Yan stood gracefully at the edge of a cliff, quietly overlooking the Wilderness Ruins. This cliff area was quite rare, having been occupied by some powerful magical beasts. However, this occupation was destined to change with the arrival of a few individuals.
Her long black hair flowed gently in the wind, and a subtle fragrance emanated from her hair, blending into this wild land. Mu Yan's cold eyes shone like bright lanterns in the night, exuding an indescribable charm. It seemed as if countless unspoken thoughts were buried within those cold eyes, waiting for someone with a discerning heart to unlock their secrets.
Bu Jing sat not far away under a solitary pine tree. His eyes were closed, seemingly lost in meditation. However, when a hint of Mu Yan's fragrance wafted toward him, his eyes suddenly opened wide with a hint of astonishment as he gazed at the enchanting woman before him.
Gradually, his vision became blurred. In that haze, the figure of the woman began to feel familiar.
It felt like it was just yesterday—also in the dark night and among the mountains—where the darkness could not feel a trace of moonlight. Everything around seemed shrouded in layers of thick fog. Yet in this dim world stood a figure before him; as the wind lifted her hair, her fragrance lingered. Just one whiff of that scent would forever be etched in his heart and mind, impossible to forget.
"Eve."
Bu Jing's expression turned dazed as he gazed at the slender figure by the cliffside. That silhouette unconsciously overlapped with someone from his memories.
The separation from that person felt like it happened only yesterday, but that yesterday was too long ago—like a fleeting shadow—and now recalling it brought forth an overwhelming tide of longing that engulfed him entirely, plunging him into deep memories like a dream from which he could not awaken. The person before him resembled past peach blossoms; yet this fragrance was ultimately different.
"They are two different people after all."
After a long while, Bu Ku smiled softly and murmured. Mu Yan seemed to sense the gaze behind her; her delicate brows furrowed slightly as she turned her head slightly. Her bright eyes looked over like clear autumn water, landing on Bu Jing. Beneath her lightly furrowed brows, her long beautiful eyelashes fluttered slightly, and a fleeting look of surprise flashed in her eyes.
"Is Young Master Brent looking for something?"
"Uh," Bu Jing blinked several times. Faced with Mu Yan's cold gaze—like a graceful lotus that could only be admired from afar—he realized that his prolonged stare had been rather abrupt. Feeling immensely awkward, he cleared his throat and was about to explain when suddenly an extremely brilliant Red Glow erupted from the distant west like a sunburst, illuminating much of the dark surroundings. A tremendous and chaotic wave of energy spread out from that direction, quickly forming a storm that swept across the land.
"Roar! Lowly humans! Fleas! Disturbing Lord Vanava's slumber shall cost you your lives!"
A thunderous roar erupted after the Red Glow illuminated the ground. The voice boomed like thunderclaps and sounded like metal clashing together with supreme authority. It resonated throughout the Wilderness Ruins area, causing everyone who heard it to feel their minds buzzing and their hearts trembling—a fear emanating from deep within their souls spread through everyone at that moment.
"Vanava is Lava King Vanava!"
"Damn it, who is so blind as to provoke that big Fellow!"
"Run! It's rumored that once the Lava King awakens in fury, the Wilderness Ruins will soon be engulfed by the Sea of Fire, and all living beings within a thousand miles will face disaster."
"Ah, what a pity. Many of the spiritual treasures in the Wilderness Ruins are likely to be destroyed by the Sea of Fire."
From a distance in the wilderness, a series of gasps could be heard, followed by seven or eight figures darting out from various dark corners, scattering in panic. In the far distance, one could also faintly see the hurried silhouettes of Trialists fleeing.
"The Lava King," the Lava King raised an eyebrow, his narrow eyes squinting as he slowly stood up, his gaze sweeping toward the crimson horizon in the west.
Perched on his shoulder, the Abyss Beast Mosquito seemed to sense the terrifying pressure emanating from the Lava King. Its eight sharp claws stood upright like chopsticks, firmly gripping his shoulder. From its long, menacing mouthparts came a series of growls that sounded like a demonstration; yet no matter how one listened, there was an underlying sense of intimidation.
"It seems someone attempted to provoke Radiant Gold but instead awakened the Lava King. That Fellow is probably dead under the Lava King's Fury now." Reynold, who had been healing, was also startled and looked toward the fiery scene in the west as he approached.
"What should we do now?" Arno also came over, his expression still calm.
Mu Yan looked at Bu. Although he didn't speak, it was clear he wanted Bu to make a decision and had not taken the earlier events to heart.
Seeing that all three were waiting for his decision, Bu smiled slightly and gazed at the crimson sky in the west. "It's good that the Lava King has awakened; this trial game has truly begun now. The Sea of Fire may hinder eighty percent of the Trialists, but it won't stop the remaining twenty percent of elites. Even if the Wilderness Ruins are engulfed by the Sea of Fire, there will still be plenty of treasures that survive. We can't miss out on this big cake."
"Exactly what I think!" Reynold's eyes lit up as he couldn't help but lick his lips, excitement and intense battle spirit evident on his face.
"Crawlers, ants, weak humans who are utterly defenseless, accept Lord Vanava's Fury!"
At this moment, deep within the far western Wilderness Ruins, the crimson horizon boiled like water. The space formed rippling distortions, and one could vaguely see a massive and terrifying figure roaring deep within that crimson abyss. An indescribable wave of terror radiated from its body, creating rolling flames like tidal waves that surged outward in all directions. Where it passed, thick smoke billowed and flames soared into the sky, transforming everything into a realm of fire.
"It seems that unfortunate Fellow who disturbed Vanava is already dead. However, Vanava is indeed hot-tempered; just as rumored, once awakened, he unleashes his wrath upon all living beings within the Wilderness Ruins."
Watching as the circular wave of flames rapidly approached—cracking the earth and turning vegetation to ash—Bu shook his head with a bitter smile on his face but showed no signs of fear or worry.
"It is no wonder that the Wilderness Ruins are in such disarray; it must be related to Vanava's outbursts every time it awakens, much like lions and tigers roaring in their territory to assert their dominance!" Reynold's fighting spirit intensified, though his expression grew considerably more serious.
Arno snorted, narrowing his eyes as he watched the rapidly spreading flames with astonishing speed. He said calmly, "The power of such flames poses a significant threat even to those at the Intermediate level. If one stays in them for too long, they might exhaust their energy and be reduced to ashes." With that, Arno glanced at Reynold, his gaze implying, with your strength, how long can you endure in this Sea of Fire?
Reynold furrowed his brow slightly, ignoring Arno's provocation. Although his injuries had not yet healed, the energy within him had recovered significantly with the aid of medicinal pills. After this battle, his strength had also improved; at least in terms of lightning energy, it was much purer than before. While the Sea of Fire was difficult to cross, it was not enough to make him retreat entirely.
"Let's go. This Sea of Fire has already eliminated a large portion of our competitors. Those who can take advantage of this situation are our next targets for plunder." His gaze swept over Mu Yan, the cool woman who looked at the spreading Sea of Fire with a determined expression. Her beauty was so striking that it made flowers seem ashamed, and she showed no signs of fear, clearly having her own means of protection.
With a low laugh, he stepped forward. The air exploded around him as he shot out like a cannonball, moving with incredible speed and accompanied by a terrifying sound of wind as he raced toward the depths of the Wilderness Ruins, now transformed into a realm of flames. The ground beneath him cracked and split from his velocity, leaving behind a long trail.
Under the seal of energy, he could not use any Combat Skills or even body techniques. However, relying on his formidable physique and under the control of overwhelming Mental Power, he could still unleash his full strength. It was just unfortunate that without the Amplification from Combat Skills, his lethality was somewhat diminished.
Boom!
Soon enough, the four of them flew into the area engulfed by the Sea of Fire. The initial shockwave from the flames had diminished by ninety-nine percent due to distance; when it reached them, it felt like a strong wind mixed with scorching heat but posed no real threat to them.
Thick smoke filled with sulfuric fumes spread through the flames. Reynold and the other two had activated their energy shields for protection, while Bu stood boldly amidst the raging fire, allowing the flames to wash over him without even singeing his clothes.
