Chapter 17: Not Enemies, Not Together
Zhang Qiu walked up to the counter, automatically ignoring the boy in front of him. He leaned against the front desk, slightly lowering his head to Wang Jinghan's ear and asked, "What's wrong?"
Wang Jinghan's eyes lit up instantly as she grabbed Zhang Qiu's arm and said, "Honey, this is the person who was pursuing me, Liu Xiaofei." After saying that, she looked at Liu Xiaofei with a smirk and added, "See? My boyfriend. I told you I have a boyfriend, but you didn't believe me. Now do you believe it?"
"Cut it out. How do I know if that's true? Even if it is, so what? You guys aren't married. Hanhang, I really like you," Liu Xiaofei replied nonchalantly, then turned to Wang Jinghan with a flattering look.
Zhang Qiu secretly laughed to himself; Wang Jinghan was trying to use him to get out of a situation. He had to help her with this. Moreover, such a beautiful girl who had once been someone he liked was calling him "honey," so he felt he had nothing to lose.
Zhang Qiu assessed the person named Liu Xiaofei in front of him. His hair was slicked back, and even from a distance, Zhang Qiu could smell the hair gel. He wore a stylish jacket and leather pants; if it weren't for his slightly protruding belly and dark skin, he could be considered handsome. However, based on his demeanor and speech, Zhang Qiu felt that he was an uncultured person. Suddenly, a thought flashed through Zhang Qiu's mind, and he asked, "Are you Liu Xiaofei?"
"Yes!" Liu Xiaofei shot a provocative look at Zhang Qiu. In his eyes, Zhang Qiu was just a country bumpkin student dressed simply; most importantly, he was holding a book. In this day and age, who still reads? Liu Xiaofei thought to himself. If he could intimidate Zhang Qiu a bit, he might back off and showcase his manliness; perhaps he could win over Wang Jinghan today. With that thought in mind, Liu Xiaofei grinned lewdly.
Zhang Qiu didn't take Liu Xiaofei's provocation to heart. He recalled what Guo Degang said in the crosstalk "Execution of Ren Laodao": truly capable people are kind to others. Only those who are half-filled with dissatisfaction act arrogantly. Besides, Zhang Qiu had something important to confirm; he continued asking, "Do you know Liu Xiaolong?"
Liu Xiaofei looked at Zhang Qiu in surprise while desperately searching his memory. Finally confirming that he had never seen this person before, Liu Xiaofei replied, "What's it to you? That's my brother; are you related to him?"
"If you're related to my brother, then we’re practically family. You should leave and not get involved," Liu Xiaofei added.
"Who said we're family? I've only heard of your brother; I've never met him or know him," Zhang Qiu replied calmly. On the surface, he appeared indifferent, but inside he was already stirred up. His suspicion was confirmed—this person in front of him was indeed the enemy's brother.
Liu Xiaofei burst into laughter and disdainfully stared at Zhang Qiu: "Not knowing him? What nonsense."
Zhang Qiu was unfazed by Liu Xiaofei's insults. He stepped closer to Liu Xiaofei, looked him in the eyes, and said seriously, "Hanhan is my girlfriend. Besides our parents, only I can call her that. Don't bother her anymore."
"Hahaha... he dares to talk to me like that," Liu Xiaofei and a few people around him burst into laughter.
All Zhang Qiu saw in their eyes was contempt. Even though he had a good temper, being looked down upon like this made him angry. Moreover, there was someone he cared about watching him. Zhang Qiu emphasized again, "Remember my words, don't bother her again. I'm not someone who likes to waste words."
Upon hearing this, Liu Xiaofei's anger flared up. Usually, most of the people he interacted with were students from school, and relying on his brother's influence, few dared to speak to him like this. But this ordinary student, Zhang Qiu, had managed to annoy him.
"Damn!" Liu Xiaofei cursed fiercely and immediately swung his fist at Zhang Qiu. Zhang Qiu didn't expect the other party to start fighting over a disagreement; he took a punch to the face, which immediately turned red and swollen, and he felt a sharp pain.
"Zhang Qiu!" Wang Jinghan screamed as she rushed out from behind the counter, pushing Liu Xiaofei aside and gently cupping Zhang Qiu's face with her hands, looking at him with concern. "Are you okay? Is it serious?"
"It's fine, I'm okay," Zhang Qiu smiled, but as he moved his mouth, the wound hurt so much that he gasped.
"Liu Xiaofei!" Wang Jinghan stomped her foot, her eyes shooting fire at Liu Xiaofei.
Zhang Qiu raised his hand to pull Wang Jinghan behind him and stared at Liu Xiaofei. "Apologize to me and promise not to bother Hanhan again, then we can let this go."
As if hearing a joke, Liu Xiaofei and his friends laughed again. But this time, before they could finish laughing, Zhang Qiu's fist slammed into Liu Xiaofei's face. Liu Xiaofei yelped in pain and covered his face; before he could react, Zhang Qiu continued his assault.
