Chapter 26: The Capture Operation
In a civilian-registered Iveco parked in the lot, He Jun quietly observed everything happening. Beside him were Wang Hailong, Li, and others. For safety's sake, another unmarked van that looked like an ordinary vehicle was also parked along the main road outside the county hospital.
Five minutes had passed since Zhang Qiu and the others made their move. Wang Hailong anxiously stared at the scene and said to He Jun, "He Bureau, we should go in. If this drags on, something might happen."
He Jun shook his head, frowning slightly as he silently watched the crowd intertwined together. He wished he could intervene immediately; after all, it was his nephew involved. Moreover, such an incident occurring at the hospital would undoubtedly attract attention from all sides. But precisely because of this, he had to endure.
Time ticked by slowly, each second feeling like a century. Everyone present, including He Jun, felt an unbearable anxiety. Li couldn't understand why they hadn't acted yet, but seeing He Jun's serious expression, he held back his questions.
Just then, a frantic voice came through the police communication channel: "Emergency situation at the county hospital; an unknown number of individuals armed with sticks are fighting. Officers patrolling nearby should rush to the scene immediately..."
Before the message was complete, He Jun suddenly turned around and addressed everyone: "Remember, those holding bats are bait for this operation; let them go. Everyone else, bring them back to the station."
"Understood!" The restrained individuals finally felt a release as they responded in unison with firm voices and swiftly exited through the back door of the Iveco.
He Jun led the way, standing tall in his police uniform that fit snugly against him, exuding authority. The others followed closely behind him with expandable batons in hand. This operation was armed, but guns served more as a deterrent than for actual use. Firing a weapon here would complicate matters significantly; besides filing reports, public opinion would also raise questions.
Zhang Qiu and his group were caught up in their fight when someone shouted first, "The police are here!" Zhang Qiu turned to see his uncle approaching with force. "Run!" he yelled as he swung his bat to knock aside a thug blocking his path and dashed into the hospital lobby. Meanwhile, Wang Jinghan had already left the scene as they had agreed; after all, many people recognized her at the hospital entrance, which could lead to unnecessary trouble.
Upon hearing Zhang Qiu's shout, Yang Yu swung his bat and struck Liu Xiaolong in the face. Blood spurted from Liu Xiaolong's mouth along with several white teeth. Yang Yu shouted, "Retreat!" and ran to one side. The others quickly followed him; anyone who dared to block them would be met with several blows from their bats. Their motorcycles were parked not far from the county hospital; as long as they reached there, they could escape safely.
Liu Xiaolong panicked at the sudden appearance of the police; he wanted to run but couldn't swallow his anger. He wanted to fight back but was blocked by their bats. As Yang Yu and the others ran farther away while police closed in on him, Liu Xiaofei was filled with rage and refused to flee, glaring fiercely at the approaching officers. Seeing this, others hurriedly pulled Liu Xiaofei's arm to escape.
He Jun and others formed a formation, and the officers armed with telescopic batons and police forks quickly surrounded and captured Liu Xiaofei and his companions. Unfortunately, two of them managed to escape into the hospital lobby and lost track.
He Jun personally handcuffed Liu Xiaofei's wrists with cold cuffs and said coldly, "You are under arrest." Without waiting for Liu Xiaofei's response, he pushed him toward his subordinates. Filled with anger, He Jun could not let this person off easily, especially since Liu Xiaofei's brother had beaten his brother-in-law to the point of fracture.
Seeing that his subordinates had controlled the scene, He Jun waved his hand and ordered, "Return to the police station." The imposing Public Security Officers escorted the disheartened delinquents in a line toward the police car. As they passed by, the onlookers applauded enthusiastically, cheering them on.
Inside the police car, Liu Xiaofei had already lost his former bravado. He huddled with disheveled hair and blood at the corner of his mouth. The others were not much better off, covered in bruises and injuries. They had only intended to beat up a high school student, thinking it would be like child's play. Who would have thought that they would end up being beaten themselves and then arrested by the police? It truly felt like they had run into bad luck.
...
Zhang Qiu ran into the lobby, circling around the complex hospital building. After confirming that no one was following him, he quietly left through a side door and hailed a taxi by the roadside. He got in and said, "To Haibo Plaza."
"Sure thing," the driver replied as he turned on the meter and set off. During the ride, the driver asked Zhang Qiu, "Still in school?"
"Yes," Zhang Qiu replied. Knowing that taxi drivers liked to chat with passengers, he engaged in light conversation. When they arrived at their destination, Zhang Qiu paid the fare, thanked the driver, and entered Haibo Plaza.
Zhang Qiu took out his phone and first called Yang Yu, asking, "How's it going? Have you all left?"
On the other end of the line came the roar of motorcycles along with Yang Yu's laughter: "Haha... Brother Qiu, today was really great! Don't worry; we all got out safely."
Zhang Qiu felt relieved and said, "That's wonderful! Let's find a time to celebrate."
"Sure!" With that, Yang Yu hung up the phone.
Zhang Qiu dialed Wang Jinghan's phone again. At that moment, Wang Jinghan was pacing back and forth inside Haibo Building. Her phone was on and she was specifically waiting for Zhang Qiu's call. It had been twenty minutes since she left the county hospital for Haibo Plaza. She couldn't help but wonder how Zhang Qiu was doing.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Seeing it was Zhang Qiu's number made her heart race with excitement, and she quickly answered, asking, "Are you okay?"
Zhang Qiu could hear the urgency in Wang Jinghan's voice and replied, "I'm fine, I'm fine. Come out to find me; I'm at the entrance of the building."
"Okay." Wang Jinghan put away her phone and ran down the stairs. Before long, Zhang Qiu saw a familiar figure rush out of the building. Just as he was about to say something, Wang Jinghan dashed in front of him and hugged him tightly, scolding, "You scared me! Why did you contact me so late?"
Zhang Qiu felt an unprecedented warmth wash over him and smiled, "It's my fault. Look, I'm fine; nothing happened at all."
Wang Jinghan playfully punched Zhang Qiu in the chest.
Zhang Qiu didn't know what was going through his mind; he suddenly pulled Wang Jinghan closer and gazed into her eyes. "Be my girlfriend," he said, then gently kissed her soft lips.
Wang Jinghan's mind went blank as she let Zhang Qiu kiss her. Suddenly, it seemed like something clicked in her head, and she pushed Zhang Qiu away forcefully, saying, "No way!"
