Chapter Twenty-Seven: Interrogation
Zhang Qiu's heart raced as he stood frozen in place after being pushed away by Wang Jinghan, dumbfounded as he asked, "Why?"
"There’s no reason; it’s just not allowed. You’re not to bring this topic up again," Wang Jinghan said, appearing somewhat angry.
"Okay, fine."
Wang Jinghan nodded in satisfaction, then suddenly raised her hand and extended a finger, saying angrily, "And you’re not allowed to kiss me either."
Zhang Qiu looked at Wang Jinghan in confusion and nodded in agreement. How could he have acted that way just now? Had he really still liked her after all these years? Was this love? A series of questions bombarded Zhang Qiu's mind as Wang Jinghan lightly poked his shoulder and asked, "What are you thinking about? Don’t want to listen to me?"
Zhang Qiu looked at Wang Jinghan and replied, "No, no, I’m listening to you."
Wang Jinghan suddenly felt a wave of disappointment. She had an indescribable feeling towards Zhang Qiu; she liked that feeling when he kissed her. But she... Sighing, Wang Jinghan said, "Let’s go; I’ll take you out."
"Sure, where to?"
"How about a walk by the river? Is that okay?" Wang Jinghan looked at Zhang Qiu with an inquisitive gaze.
"Sounds good; let’s go to the river."
Zhang Qiu's electric vehicle was still parked at the county hospital's parking lot, and so was Wang Jinghan's. Fortunately, Haibo Plaza was located in the city center, making it easier to walk than ride the electric vehicle. So the two walked and talked, reminiscing about the past while deliberately avoiding the earlier incident, as if nothing had happened.
A gust of wind blew, and Wang Jinghan's long hair fluttered. Zhang Qiu caught a refreshing scent and said, "Tonight, you should come with me to meet the reporters."
"You handle your business; I won't disturb you. Let's arrange to meet just the two of us when you have some free time."
"I'm not disturbing you. You have more social experience; having you around could help me brainstorm." Zhang Qiu looked forward to her agreement, but Wang Jinghan fell into thought and did not respond.
"Please help me out." Zhang Qiu added, as he mainly wanted to spend more time with Wang Jinghan. This relaxed feeling was something he had only experienced with Jiang Xue before meeting Wang Jinghan, which made him cherish their friendship even more. Additionally, Zhang Qiu wanted to treat her to a meal. When his parents were hospitalized, Wang Jinghan had helped him a lot, and he wanted to take this opportunity to thank her.
"Alright then." Seeing Zhang Qiu's insistence, Wang Jinghan hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed, "But I need to be home by nine-thirty; my family doesn't allow me to stay out late."
"Okay." Zhang Qiu smiled happily.
...
At that moment, inside the police station, Wang Guodong looked out the window in confusion. He had just seen Deputy Director He Jun arriving with two cars. Years of experience made it easy for him to tell that He Jun was back from a mission. He Jun often went to the front lines; this time it might be related to the county hospital issue, Wang Guodong thought.
He didn't want to deal with such matters himself; as the director, he needed to maintain an air of authority and focus on the bigger picture. Specific tasks were better left to subordinates. However, this time, Wang Guodong felt an uneasy sensation without knowing why. With that thought, he picked up a phone from his desk...
The Iveco and van entered the parking lot one after the other. He Jun and Wang Hailong were the first to get out and opened their doors. Wang Hailong shouted into the vehicle, "Everyone get out and behave yourselves!"
The young men emerged from the car one by one with their heads down; Liu Xiaofei was even dragged out by someone else. At that moment, Liu Xiaofei's face was pale; he was completely terrified as he had never experienced anything like this before.
Once they were brought in, He Jun immediately ordered them to be taken to the interrogation room. He personally led the surprise interrogation. With years of experience in law enforcement, He Jun viewed Liu Xiaofei and his friends as mere kids; their usual fights were just playful scuffles—they had never even been inside a police station, let alone a police bureau.
Under the interrogation of He Jun, these individuals quickly confessed, deeply realizing the dangers of fighting in the county hospital. However, what He Jun wanted was not just this outcome. He pounded the table and sternly asked, "Not all! Continue. Let me remind you, during the demolition, did you help them by beating someone?"
The youths trembled in fear, unable to speak coherently. Among them was a clever one; a young man with dyed red hair quickly thought that the officer might be referring to the uncle injured by Brother Long. Eager to lighten his punishment through honesty, he spoke up.
He Jun nodded in satisfaction; this was the testimony he needed. The tradition of public security in our country has always emphasized evidence over confessions. As long as the evidence is complete, it can be submitted to the prosecutor's office. Now, with both the minor injury assessment of his brother-in-law and the testimonies at hand, Liu Xiaolong's charges could be solidified. The next step was to wait for Zhang Qiu to contact the reporters. If everything went smoothly, his career would see a turning point, and a bright future might await him. With this thought, He Jun couldn't suppress his excitement and waved his hand decisively, saying, "Old Wang, arrest Liu Xiaolong!"
"Yes!" Wang Hailong quickly stepped out of the interrogation room.
