Chapter 40: Liu Fangfei Captured 0

Throughout the morning, Zhang Qiu was very focused. As more and more tasks piled up, he could no longer afford to waste time. Since he was at school, he decided to study hard to free up time for other matters. To Zhang Qiu's surprise, with less study time, his grades actually improved. 0

After school let out at noon, Zhang Qiu did not rush home. He went to a newsstand and bought today's Youth Daily. The headline on the front page read: "Violent Evictions in Beilan County, Local Police Leaders Act as Protectors of Criminal Forces." 0

Zhang Qiu looked at the article and couldn't help but admire Liu Journalist's eloquence. The entire report clearly explained the situation, analyzing the reasons behind it and offering insights into potential solutions. At the end of the report, Liu Fangfei posed thought-provoking questions. As a literature enthusiast, Zhang Qiu felt a strong urge to become a proud journalist himself. 0

Carefully folding the newspaper, he tucked it into the inner pocket of his coat. He twisted the throttle of his electric vehicle and hummed "No More Hesitation" all the way home. 0

Upon arriving home, He Mei had prepared a sumptuous meal, while Zhang Zhi Hua was lying on the sofa watching a TV drama. Zhang Qiu walked over and asked, "Dad, how does your leg feel?" 0

Zhang Zhi Hua smiled wryly. "The leg is fine; it's just that not being able to get up and walk is really uncomfortable." 0

Zhang Qiu chuckled. "Well, you can take this opportunity to rest." Although he said this, he understood that his father was not someone who could sit still. 0

"I can't just rest all the time; who's going to earn money to support the family? I already feel bad enough asking for leave from work," his father's words made Zhang Qiu feel a pang of sadness. 0

"Alright, you two come over for dinner," He Mei called from the dining table as she began serving rice into bowls. Zhang Qiu helped his father with his cane and assisted him in slowly sitting down at the table. 0

He Mei handed a bowl of rice to Zhang Qiu and asked with a smile, "Son, why do you seem so happy today?" 0

Zhang Zhi Hua chimed in, "I think our son looks quite cheerful today; usually he's always frowning, but today he has a smile on his face." 0

"Really? I don't think so," Zhang Qiu laughed awkwardly. He was indeed happy today, but he couldn't pull out the newspaper and tell his parents that he was targeting Police Chief Wang Guodong. 0

"Alright, eat up! Mom made your favorite cola chicken wings today," He Mei said as she picked up a tender and juicy wing and placed it in Zhang Qiu's bowl. 0

"Thank you, Mom." Zhang Qiu took a bite and exclaimed, "It's delicious." 0

Zhang Zhi Hua casually said, "Son, after dinner, I have something to give you." 0

"What are you giving me?" Zhang Qiu's curiosity was piqued. Normally, there was no tradition of giving gifts in their family except for birthdays, so what could his father be planning to give him? 0

"Well, just eat your meal first. You'll know what it is once I give it to you," Zhang Zhi Hua replied mysteriously, continuing to eat his rice. No matter how much Zhang Qiu pressed him with questions, he only smiled and remained silent. Reluctantly, Zhang Qiu decided to eat first, comforted by the thought that he wouldn't have to wait long to find out the answer; otherwise, his anxious nature would drive him crazy. 0

The meal ended quickly, and as expected, Zhang Qiu was the first to put down his chopsticks. This wasn't because he ate less; rather, under the strict management at school, he had developed a habit of eating quickly. After finishing his meal, Zhang Qiu went to the kitchen to wash his bowl. This was a rule set by He Mei when Zhang Qiu was younger: everyone was responsible for cleaning their own utensils, and the whole family adhered to it. 0

After washing his bowl, Zhang Qiu turned to his father, who was still eating. "Dad, you finish your meal first. I'm going back to my room to do some things. Can you give me that mysterious thing later?" 0

"Sure, go ahead and do what you need to do." 0

Back in his room, the first thing Zhang Qiu did was turn on his phone. Once it booted up, several missed calls appeared on the screen. Seeing that one of them was from Liu Fangfei, he was about to call back when he noticed a text notification in the upper left corner. Opening it up, Zhang Qiu was deeply shocked at what he read. 0

The message was from He Jun, informing Zhang Qiu that Liu Xiaolong had been released and had agreed to compensate for medical expenses and other losses. This matter had been handled personally by Wang Guodong, and He Jun felt powerless in this situation. Upon reading this, Zhang Qiu's dislike for Wang Guodong intensified. 0

Fortunately, Liu Xiaofei and those thugs had faced legal consequences. The newspapers had already exposed the vile relationship between Wang Guodong and Liu Xiaolong; Wang Guodong's blatant actions were truly despicable. 0

Zhang Qiu suddenly smiled bitterly; while he hated Wang Guodong for protecting Liu Xiaolong, wasn't he doing something similar himself? 0

Despite these thoughts, actions still needed to be taken. Analyzing carefully, he realized that he and Liu Xiaolong were fundamentally different from each other; he stood on the side of justice while Liu Xiaolong acted out of necessity through improper means to protect his interests. Once successful, the beneficiaries would be over five hundred thousand people in the county. With this thought in mind, Zhang Qiu felt a sense of relief. 0

Zhang Qiu dialed Liu Fangfei's number again but only heard a familiar voice on the other end: "Sorry, the number you dialed is not available." He tried several more times with the same result. 0

How could this be? Wasn't a reporter's phone supposed to be on 24/7? Confused, Zhang Qiu suddenly remembered the "Youth Daily" newspaper he had brought home. He quickly took it out of his pocket. After unfolding it, he found the contact number for the News Agency in one corner at the top right. Without hesitation, Zhang Qiu dialed it. 0

Soon after, someone answered: "Hello, this is the Youth Daily News Agency." 0

Zhang Qiu got straight to the point and said, "Hello, I am looking for Liu Journalist." 0

"Which Liu Journalist?" 0

"Liu Fangfei, Liu Journalist," Zhang Qiu replied. 0

There was a sudden silence on the other end of the phone. Zhang Qiu felt something was off and continued to ask, "Hello? Are you still there? Why aren't you speaking? I'm looking for Liu Fangfei, Liu Journalist." 0

The person on the other end did not answer but instead asked, "Who are you?" From the tone of the voice, Zhang Qiu sensed caution and distrust, which made Zhang Qiu feel even more uneasy about the situation. 0

"I am her friend." Zhang Qiu thought for a moment and felt that this response was more prudent. 0

"Oh." 0

The response from the other party seemed less concerned about who Zhang Qiu was, so why ask? Zhang Qiu became a bit impatient and asked again in a hurried tone, "Where is Liu Journalist?" 0

After a while, the person on the other end hesitantly replied, "Liu Journalist... she was taken away by the police." 0
