Chapter Fifty The Good Show Is About to Begin
The taxi sped along, and Zhang Qiu looked out the window as everything became a blur. After passing three intersections, the driver stopped some distance away from the main entrance of the Beilan Grand Hotel. Security guards stood at the hotel entrance to prevent cars from blocking the way.
Zhang Qiu paid, thanked the driver, and got out.
The Beilan Grand Hotel is the most magnificent and luxurious hotel in Beilan County, and it is also the only star-rated hotel in the entire county. The Beilan Grand Hotel was once a state-owned hotel that was extremely popular in Beilan County but fell into decline with the market economy and ultimately faced acquisition. After restructuring, the Beilan Grand Hotel turned its fortunes around, continuously developing and expanding. Gradually, it became the three-star hotel it is today. Standing in front of the Beilan Grand Hotel, Zhang Qiu felt somewhat at a loss. He had only seen this grand building from a distance before and had never been here. Such a place was beyond his reach. Zhang Qiu waited at the entrance, casually looking around.
The security guards wore sharp uniforms, with expandable batons at their waists and walkie-talkies clipped to their shoulders, standing imposing at the entrance while watching the passing vehicles. In the parking lot to the left of the entrance, beautifully designed luxury cars were lined up neatly. The revolving glass door in the center of the main building sparkled in the sunlight, and a vibrant red carpet was laid out, making Zhang Qiu want to walk on it.
“Zhang Qiu.”
Zhang Qiu heard someone call his name and turned around abruptly to see Liu Fangfei getting out of a car and running toward him.
Zhou Guanghai had been driving fast with flashing red and blue lights. Originally, Zhou Guanghai planned for Liu Fangfei to stay at the Beilan Grand Hotel first. Later in the evening, Wang Guodong would come over for dinner together. As the saying goes, you make friends through conflict; having more friends is better than having more enemies.
However, Liu Fangfei refused to stay there at all and insisted that Zhang Qiu pick her up.
Before the car had even come to a complete stop, Liu Fangfei spotted Zhang Qiu standing at the entrance of the Beilan Grand Hotel and shouted for the driver to stop. Once the car stopped, without checking for other vehicles around her, Liu Fangfei opened the door and rushed toward Zhang Qiu.
Zhang Qiu was taken by surprise by Liu Fangfei's sudden bear hug. Once he regained his composure, he looked her up and down. It seemed that Liu Fangfei had not suffered too much.
“They didn’t do anything to you, right?” Zhang Qiu asked.
Liu Fangfei shook her head with a smile and said, “I’m fine. I’m just so happy to see you again.”
"I think so too," Zhang Qiu said with a happy smile, his excitement evident. He was thrilled to see Liu Fangfei again and relieved that she was okay.
Liu Fangfei suggested, "Let's find a place to eat something and have a good chat."
"Sure," Zhang Qiu agreed.
Zhang Qiu and Liu Fangfei walked east along the road, completely unaware that Zhou Guanghai was running towards them with several police officers.
Zhou Guanghai reached them first and blocked their path. Zhang Qiu instinctively shielded Liu Fangfei behind him and glared at Zhou Guanghai, asking, "What do you want?"
Liu Fangfei, still behind Zhang Qiu, frowned and questioned, "What? Are you not going to let me go?"
Zhou Guanghai chuckled, "Of course not, Liu Journalist. Here's the thing. We've had quite a misunderstanding, and Director Wang feels bad about it. So, he has arranged a dinner tonight and would like to invite you to join us."
"Oh," Liu Fangfei replied dismissively, regaining her usual aloofness. "As long as you give me an explanation for my detention, I'm fine with it. But I think I'll skip the dinner; I want to eat with this brother instead."
Zhou Guanghai glanced at Zhang Qiu, knowing that this young man was the nephew of Deputy Director He Jun. Weighing the pros and cons, he said, "We can all eat together; I've already reserved a table."
"Are you going?" Liu Fangfei asked, looking at Zhang Qiu with her big eyes.
Zhang Qiu was taken aback by her question. After a moment of thought, he replied, "Since Director Wang is so enthusiastic about it, we should give him face. Let's go!"
Seeing Zhang Qiu agree, Liu Fangfei nodded in acceptance.
Zhou Guanghai was pleased and led the two towards the hotel. Arranging a private room was just a phone call away. Various departments often chose Beilan Grand Hotel for official receptions, so the hotel always kept several luxurious private rooms available. Even when the hotel was bustling with business, these rooms were not opened to the public to reserve for officials' use.
As Zhou Guanghai walked ahead, Liu Fangfei deliberately slowed down to get closer to Zhang Qiu and whispered, "I thought you wouldn't go; why are you going?"
Zhang Qiu smiled and explained in the same low voice, "Just for fun." Seeing Liu Fangfei's confusion, Zhang Qiu added, "Wang Guodong must have some ulterior motive. I think this time we might have the chance to gain something new."
Liu Fangfei looked at Zhang Qiu in surprise; she hadn't expected this high school student to have such thoughts. She silently wondered if this person would turn out to be someone extraordinary.
"Are you going to become a journalist in the future?" Liu Fangfei asked out of the blue.
Zhang Qiu smiled and said, "Maybe. I like literature."
Half an hour ago, Zhang Qiu was imagining stepping onto the red carpet of Beilan Grand Hotel. Half an hour later, that imagination became reality. Beilan Grand Hotel truly lived up to its reputation; upon entering the lobby, Qiu Wan was stunned by the sight before her.
The lobby was resplendent with gold and brilliance. Zhang Qiu couldn't discern the style, but he could feel its extraordinary nature. Just the crystal chandelier above was worth a fortune. Waitstaff in qipaos moved gracefully, carrying trays filled with dishes that were both familiar and unfamiliar.
Under Zhou Guanghai's guidance, Zhang Qiu and Liu Fangfei entered the elevator. As the elevator ascended slowly, Zhang Qiu looked down at Beilan County Town, illuminated by countless lights under the night sky. The elevator stopped on the 19th floor, and Zhou Guanghai gentlemanly extended his hand, saying, "Ladies first."
"Please this way." There were already attendants waiting in the corridor. Zhang Qiu noticed that the attendants on this floor had exquisite features, smooth white skin, and wore matching red qipaos. If the attendants on the first floor were merely beautiful, those here could be described as stunningly gorgeous. In fact, the selection of attendants on this floor was certainly on par with that of flight attendants.
Zhang Qiu and Liu Fangfei exchanged glances as they stepped out of the elevator. Zhang Qiu thought to himself that a good show was about to begin.
