Chapter 57: A One Against Many Confrontation
Song Weidong looked at Zhang Qiu in surprise, seemingly understanding why Brother Long wanted him to deal with him. This Zhang Qiu was simply a reckless fool; how many people in the entire senior class would dare to speak to him like this? Despite these thoughts, Song Weidong remained calm; one Zhang Qiu was not worth his anger.
The two people standing behind Song Weidong could no longer contain themselves. Dong Ge was not someone to be trifled with, and this ignorant student dared to talk back to him. Immediately, one of them jumped out, pointing at Zhang Qiu and shouting, "Are you looking for death? How dare you speak to Dong Ge like that!"
Another person chimed in, pointing at Zhang Qiu and cursing, "Damn it, it's always Dong Ge who asks others questions. How dare you ask him anything!"
Zhang Qiu looked at the two clowns in front of him with disdain and ignored them, instead focusing on Song Weidong's eyes. He was not afraid of a fight; even if he were alone, Zhang Qiu believed he could make Song Weidong suffer. Besides, in fifty minutes, Yang Yu would be bringing people over. No matter how powerful the other side was, he was ready to fight!
Song Weidong watched Zhang Qiu with interest. Having been around many different types of people with his father, he had some understanding of human nature. The person before him seemed very ordinary, yet there was an indescribable quality about him.
When Brother Long called him and asked him to teach Zhang Qiu a lesson, Song Weidong did not understand the reason behind it. He only agreed because of Brother Long's strong influence. The fact that Brother Long had connections with Police Chief Wang Guodong was not a secret among their circle. Zhang Qiu's temperament could easily offend people, but how had he offended Brother Long?
As Song Weidong pondered this while looking at Zhang Qiu, one of his subordinates continued, "Are you mute or scared? We're being nice here; just give in and take a few hits. Otherwise, we'll beat you to death!"
Zhang Qiu suddenly focused his gaze sharply on the shouting subordinate. Raising his right hand, he flicked a playing card that spun through the air and lodged itself firmly into the door frame.
Everyone was stunned by this scene, and Song Weidong couldn't help but widen his eyes. Wasn't this something only seen in movies? To actually do it required immense strength.
Zhang Qiu was pleased with the effect he had created and said calmly, "Words should be taken seriously; otherwise next time it won't just be a card stuck in the door frame."
The stunned subordinate broke out in a cold sweat; if that had been aimed at him... just thinking about it sent shivers down his spine. At that moment, he no longer looked like the fierce figure ready to attack.
Song Dongwei stared at the playing card nailed to the door before coming back to his senses and looking at Zhang Qiu. Their eyes met instantly. A tense atmosphere filled the air until Song Weidong finally spoke up, "You can go now; remember what I said."
"Okay," Zhang Qiu replied without further ado. He pulled the playing card from the door frame and turned to leave, leaving a deep indentation behind.
For now, Song Weidong was momentarily intimidated by what had happened; at least tonight would be uneventful. Moreover, Zhang Qiu sensed that Song Dongwei seemed relatively friendly. As for the person who wanted to deal with him, even if Song Weidong hadn't told him directly, Zhang Qiu had already guessed who it might be.
After Zhang Qiu left, Song Weidong boldly took out his phone in the classroom and said, "Hello, Brother Long..."
When Song Weidong hung up the phone, those around him could clearly see that Dong Ge's expression was quite grim.
...
Liu Fangfei checked into the hotel and, after entering her room, tossed her bag aside and collapsed onto the bed. She was utterly exhausted. However, after resting for a short while, she got back up and opened her laptop.
Liu Fangfei had already thought about how to write an in-depth report on the previous news. So much had happened that she felt uneasy about not writing it down. Liu Fangfei estimated that if she wrote it tonight, it would be too late for it to be published tomorrow. The last time it was published so quickly was because she had persuaded the editor for a long time before they agreed. Moreover, this incident had caused quite a stir within the News Agency.
Liu Fangfei carefully organized her thoughts while translating them into text on her computer. Her phone buzzed on the desk; she grabbed it and saw the caller ID before hurriedly answering.
Her mother's warm voice came through the phone: "Fei Fei, are you okay?" Liu Mother called as soon as she received the news. During Liu Fangfei's time in custody, Liu Father had kept it from her.
Liu Fangfei smiled and reassured her, "I'm fine, Mom. I'll come home tomorrow to see you."
Having gone through that experience, Liu Fangfei suddenly felt the importance of family, especially during her time in detention when she constantly missed them. Only after losing something do people learn to cherish it. Usually, she worked outside and rarely returned home. While in custody, Liu Fangfei often gazed at the iron bars and longed for her family.
"Good, good! Come back; I'll cook for you myself," Liu Mother exclaimed with excitement upon hearing that Liu Fangfei would return. Liu Fangfei could feel her mother's emotions even through the phone. A mother’s love is always profound, regardless of her own identity.
"Fei Fei."
Liu Fangfei recognized her father's voice and called out, "Dad." After a pause, she added, "Thank you."
"Haha, my Fei Fei knows to thank me," Liu Father sounded very happy on the other end of the line.
"Dad, don't always tease me," Liu Fangfei said with a slight pout.
Liu Father chuckled twice, then suddenly became serious and asked, "Fei Fei, how do you plan to handle this matter?"
Liu Fangfei became excited upon hearing her father's question and recounted everything that had happened today. Then, with great enthusiasm, she began to talk about her report, thinking that her father would surely support her and recognize her determination.
"This report of mine will provide an in-depth analysis; it will let the people know..."
Before Liu Fangfei could finish, Liu Father interrupted her, saying, "Fei Fei, you shouldn't write this report anymore."
Liu Fangfei's face was filled with surprise; she never expected that her usually open-minded father would advise her against it this time. She quickly asked, "Dad, why is that?"
Liu Father replied seriously, "There are some things you don't understand. In short, this matter ends here."
"Are we just going to let those people continue their wrongdoing?" Liu Fangfei questioned emotionally.
"Fei Fei..."
"I won't!" Liu Fangfei loudly refused. She couldn't understand; hadn't her father always taught her to stand for justice? Why was he acting this way? What was the reason behind it?
