Chapter 141: I Must Go Home
"Well, okay." Wang Jinghan agreed to Zhang Qiu's request, "Walk over to the wall." She helped Zhang Qiu to the wall and slowly let go, keeping her hands around Zhang Qiu, ready to catch her if she started to fall.
Zhang Qiu stood still for a moment before slowly taking a step forward, then another. Her abdomen didn't hurt at all. As she gained confidence, her steps quickened, making Wang Jinghan anxious as she repeatedly cautioned, "Slow down, slow down."
Back in the hospital room, Wang Jinghan helped Zhang Qiu onto the bed. Zhang Qiu smiled and said, "See? I can walk on my own now. Can I go home?"
"No!" Wang Jinghan raised her phone directly in front of Zhang Qiu's face, her tone leaving no room for argument. "Call your uncle and aunt and tell them you're not coming home today."
Zhang Qiu frowned, realizing she couldn't argue with Wang Jinghan. She reluctantly picked up the phone to make the call. As soon as the call connected, before Zhang Qiu could speak, she heard her mother's anxious voice. Her expression changed dramatically as she repeatedly said she would return immediately.
Seeing Zhang Qiu's change in demeanor and her insistence on going back, Wang Jinghan guessed something must have happened and quickly asked, "What’s wrong?"
Zhang Qiu's expression shifted between worry and determination as she sat up excitedly and looked into Wang Jinghan's eyes. "Jiang Xue's Second Uncle and Auntie are at our house demanding to see me because of what happened with Jiang Xue. I have to go back right away."
"What?" Wang Jinghan gasped, realizing the severity of Zhang Qiu's injuries. She looked at Zhang Qiu with concern. "You’re hurt like this; how can you go back?"
"I'm fine! Didn't I just walk by myself?" Zhang Qiu reassured her. "Don't worry; I won't push myself too hard. I really feel like I can do this."
Wang Jinghan was still worried and thought of a compromise. "How about this? I'll call the doctor over to check on you and decide if you can go home, okay?"
"Okay, hurry up," Zhang Qiu nodded eagerly.
Wang Jinghan hurried out to find Dr. Li and explain the situation. Dr. Li frowned and said, "Is there really an urgent reason for her to go home? Her injuries are serious."
Wang Jinghan sighed helplessly. "It seems like she has to go back. Dr. Li, please take a look at her."
"Alright then, let's go." Dr. Li put on his white coat and headed out with Wang Jinghan closely following behind him.
In the hospital room, Zhang Qiu saw Dr. Li enter and hurriedly said, "Doctor, please check me. I have to go home for something important."
Dr. Li gestured for Zhang Qiu to stay still and replied, "Jinghan has already informed me about your condition. Do you realize how serious your injury is? What could be so urgent that you need to leave right now?" Noticing that Zhang Qiu remained silent, Dr. Li continued, "Just lie still while I examine you. If it's possible for you to go home, I will let you. But remember, I'm a doctor, and I must be responsible for my patients."
Zhang Qiu quickly thanked the doctor. However, Dr. Li added, "Don't be too quick to thank me. If the wound looks bad, I can't let you leave."
Zhang Qiu smiled helplessly and lay back on the hospital bed.
Dr. Li turned to Wang Jinghan and said, "Put on gloves and help me."
"Okay," Wang Jinghan replied as she moved to the other side of the room.
Dr. Li carefully unwrapped the bandage from Zhang Qiu's abdomen, revealing a three-centimeter-long wound completely exposed, stitched tightly with numerous threads, surrounded by the color of antiseptic. From a distance, it looked like a brown centipede lying on his stomach. Dr. Li took a close look at the wound and suddenly leaned in for a better view. After a long moment, he straightened up with an expression of disbelief.
Seeing the shocked look on the doctor's face, Zhang Qiu quickly asked, "Doctor, what's wrong?"
"Wang Jinghan asked with concern as well, 'Dr. Li, what is it?' Dr. Li was known for his composure, and this was the first time Wang Jinghan had seen him like this; it seemed as if he had been startled by something. Could it be that Zhang Qiu... 'Dr. Li, how is Zhang Qiu? Is the wound worse?'"
Noticing Wang Jinghan's anxious demeanor, Dr. Li quickly reassured her, "No, no! Jinghan, don't worry; he is fine." He then turned to Zhang Qiu and said, "You know what? Your wound is healing faster than any patient I've encountered in my years of practice."
Zhang Qiu felt relieved; if the doctor said so, then he could go home. He glanced at Wang Jinghan and noticed she was looking at him with a happy expression as well.
Dr. Li adjusted his glasses and continued speaking to Zhang Qiu, "This is truly miraculous. Do you know that human wounds don't heal this quickly? It's astonishing! At this rate, you'll be back to your lively self within a week. Ordinary people take one or two months to recover."
Hearing this from the doctor made Zhang Qiu naturally happy; he smiled and said, "Maybe it's because I've practiced martial arts."
Unexpectedly, Dr. Li denied this notion: "That's not it. I've encountered many martial artists; they are also prone to injuries. While practicing martial arts does enhance certain bodily functions to some extent, it certainly wouldn't lead to recovery like yours."
"Then what am I?" Zhang Qiu also became puzzled, not understanding what Dr. Li meant. Could it be that he wasn't human, but a new species? That seemed too absurd.
"That's why I'm a miracle, my friend. Your body structure might be different from ordinary people. I can give you a comprehensive examination for free." Dr. Li's eyes sparkled; he was an expert in human anatomy, and if there were any breakthroughs in research, that would be...
Just as Dr. Li was lost in his delightful fantasies, Zhang Qiu suddenly interrupted, "Thank you, Dr. Li, but that's not necessary. Since that's the case, can I leave now?"
Dr. Li nodded regretfully and said, "Yes, yes. Remember to rest well after you get home, eat something good, and avoid strenuous exercise."
Seeing that he could go home, Zhang Qiu eagerly agreed; he couldn't wait to leave and rush back home.
"Jinghan, you handle the paperwork so he can go home," Dr. Li glanced at Zhang Qiu before turning to leave. This time, not conducting an examination was fine; it seemed that Wang Jinghan had a special relationship with this guy, so he would use Wang Jinghan as a breakthrough point.
On the way, Dr. Li said to Wang Jinghan, "Jinghan, your friend has a very unique body. When you have time, bring him back for a comprehensive examination; I'll do it for free."
Wang Jinghan smiled and thanked Dr. Li; at that moment, her thoughts were entirely focused on the matters at Zhang Qiu's home. After completing the paperwork, Wang Jinghan hurried back to the ward to find Zhang Qiu and said with a smile, "You can go home now."
Zhang Qiu stood up and awkwardly pointed at his bare upper body, saying with a wry smile, "I can't just go out like this, can I?"
