The police car drove directly into the precinct, and two officers jumped out, opening the doors to bring Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue out, with a focus on guarding Zhang Qiu, sandwiching him in between as they walked towards the building. Just then, an older officer came out with his apprentice and was momentarily taken aback upon seeing Zhang Qiu, before laughing and saying, "So, after confessing, you don't even plan to stay in the hospital? You better think it through; once you're out, there's no going back."
"I never regret it."
Zhang Qiu smiled as well, a smile that puzzled Wang Baoguo. Zhang Qiu's expression did not resemble that of someone about to go to prison. Moreover, there was always a hint of mockery in that smile.
"Take him to see Captain Ma; his case needs to be transferred to the criminal police," the older officer instructed before leaving with the other officers.
Zhang Qiu watched the older officer's retreating figure as one of the guards pushed him from behind. "Hurry up, stop staring."
Zhang Qiu stepped inside, walking confidently towards the interrogation room. Jiang Xue followed closely behind, and this time the two officers did not stop them. Before long, Ma Zhen arrived, looking serious as he said, "Zhang Qiu, your case has significant issues. Engaging in a brawl resulting in multiple injuries has exceeded the scope of a civil case."
"So, are you sending me across the street?" Zhang Qiu shifted his position. "That's fine; Jiang Xue needs to go to the police station for a statement, so we can go together."
Ma Zhen suddenly froze, leaning over the table with his hands pressed down and shouted, "Zhang Qiu, are you pretending to be clueless?"
"What do you mean?"
"What do I mean?" Ma Zhen straightened up. "You should know exactly what I mean."
At this point, Zhang Qiu understood; it seemed Bai Jingwei was efficient in handling matters and did not drag things out like some departments. Zhang Qiu had no aversion towards Ma Zhen; there was no need to be at odds with him. He chuckled and said, "Now I understand; earlier I was uncertain about whether it would work out or not. It seems it has now?"
"That's right, it worked!" Ma Zhen scrutinized Zhang Qiu with deep confusion in his eyes. For such a serious case, orders had come down from above prohibiting further investigation. Moreover, specific names were mentioned regarding who could not be involved—Zhang Qiu and Rui Rui were explicitly excluded. Was this an order from Director He? But could Police Chief Wang Guodong really have such influence? Wasn't he known for adhering strictly to principles? But then something unexpected happened that left them dumbfounded: under Ma Zhen's guidance, Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, and Rui Rui all walked out together. Upon seeing Zhang Qiu, Rui Rui was ecstatic and immediately hugged him tightly while tears streamed down her face as she murmured, "You really saved me."
Jiang Xue watched from the side as Zhang Qiu and Rui Rui embraced each other; for the first time she felt no jealousy but rather a tinge of sadness. She stepped forward and joined them in an embrace. The three had been apart for only a short while but now felt as if they hadn't seen each other in ages. Ma Zhen interjected from the side, "Alright now, this isn't the place for chatting; if you have anything to say, do it outside."
Zhang Qiu turned to look at Ma Zhen and said seriously, "Captain Ma, thank you."
Ma Zhen smiled lightly, waved his hand, and watched as Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, and Rui Rui left hand in hand. As they passed the two police officers who were guarding them, Zhang Qiu politely smiled.
After leaving the police station, they entered the Public Security Bureau.
This was Rui Rui's first time stepping into this place, and she felt extremely anxious, especially after the time spent in the detention room; she never wanted to come to such a place again. The guard at the reception immediately recognized Zhang Qiu as he came to register and said with a smile, "Here to see your uncle?"
"Yes, I'm here to see my uncle."
"And these two?" The guard's gaze swept over Jiang Xue and Rui Rui. Jiang Xue looked pure and innocent, like a student. Rui Rui appeared to be a completely different type; it was hard to imagine how these two could be together.
Zhang Qiu smiled and introduced Jiang Xue, "This is my girlfriend," then looked at Rui Rui and added, "And this is also my friend. We're here to take a statement."
"Alright, you all hurry along then." Upon hearing there was official business, the guard immediately stopped chatting and let them in. Rui Rui patted her chest and sighed, "That was close; I thought they wouldn't let me in."
"No way; it's not that hard to get in. Come on, I'll take you inside."
Zhang Qiu took Jiang Xue's hand, Jiang Xue took Rui Rui's hand, and the three of them went directly to He Jun's office. Zhang Qiu knocked on the door and pushed it open after hearing his uncle's voice. Remembering the scene in the hospital room, Zhang Qiu momentarily didn't know what to say. He Jun's eyes lit up when he saw Zhang Qiu but quickly dimmed.
"Not bad; you have all types here. Why didn't you bring that nurse along too? It would be nice for everyone to meet," He Jun said as he sized up Jiang Xue and especially Rui Rui—his irritation rising.
Zhang Qiu refused to engage with He Jun's sarcasm and stated directly, "We're here to take a statement."
"Taking a statement can wait; let's talk about your situation first." He Jun pointed to the wall and said, "Sit down; move the chairs yourself."
Zhang Qiu moved three chairs from the wall, sitting in the middle with Jiang Xue and Rui Rui on either side. Zhang Qiu asked directly, "What about my situation?"
"You have quite a few matters to discuss. First tell me, who helped you?"
"You, isn't it you?" Zhang Qiu feigned surprise.
"Do you think you can deceive me? Don't forget, I became the Police Chief step by step. Lying in front of me is certainly not a wise choice," He Jun said, staring into Zhang Qiu's eyes, trying to discern something from them, and he indeed saw something. It was clear that Zhang Qiu was lying.
"Uncle, just as you said, you are Police Chief Wang Guodong. Don't you know our relationship? Even if you're unclear, it wouldn't be difficult for you to investigate me. What could I possibly be involved in?"
He Jun reminded him, "Don't you have a sister who is a journalist? Her father is a high-ranking official in the Province."
"So what? I'm friends with her, not with her father. How could a high-ranking official in the Province care about an ordinary student like me?"
Zhang Qiu had a point; interfering with law enforcement wasn't trivial. If it got out, it could lead to significant political trouble. Perhaps he really wasn't involved; then who could it be? "I have my own choices. I will create my own future with my friends. Don't underestimate us; we are destined to be The Extraordinary of Ordinary People."
He Jun's intention was to make Zhang Qiu aware not to be used by anyone, as the power to influence law enforcement was quite terrifying. A child like Zhang Qiu getting involved with such people could leave him with nothing but ashes. However, Zhang Qiu misunderstood He Jun's warning as a reminder about his connection with the Stone Dagger Gang and vividly recalled the first meeting between Biao Ge and his uncle.

"Go ahead, go to the first floor and take a statement from Wang Hailong."
"I'm not in a hurry, I have something to discuss too!"
As soon as Zhang Qiu spoke, Jiang Xue and Rui Rui, who had already stood up, sat back down.
He Jun looked at Zhang Qiu and asked, "What do you need to discuss?"
"How are we handling Liu Xiaolong? And what about the escaped Lu Bin? Have we caught him yet?"
"Liu Xiaolong will be dealt with according to the law. As for Lu Bin," He Jun paused for a moment, "we haven't caught him yet."
"I also want to remind you, uncle, don't forget your oath when you became Police Chief Wang Guodong."
