Zhang Qiu's Mercedes-Benz Business Sedan surged forward at a speed of one hundred twenty miles per hour, completely disregarding the city's speed limits. However, it wasn't long before the driver had to slow down. Traffic ahead was congested, with a dense array of vehicles stretching far into the distance, making the cars and pedestrians on the road appear as insignificant as ants against the towering buildings on either side.
A black sedan was closely tailing them, and if the traffic didn't start moving soon, they would inevitably be caught. As the black sedan drew nearer, the driver suddenly swerved sharply and slammed on the gas, crashing the Black Mercedes Sedan into a nearby trash bin and onto the sidewalk. Pedestrians gasped in shock and hurriedly dodged out of the way, cursing under their breath at this reckless driver.
Drivers stuck in traffic were stunned to see someone driving up onto the sidewalk and knocking over a trash bin. Once they realized it was a Black Mercedes Sedan, some of them understood immediately; it was likely some young master showing off. Just as they felt satisfied with their assumptions, another black sedan also surged onto the sidewalk and sped away.
"What the hell is going on today?" one driver exclaimed, eyes wide as he watched the two black cars disappear into the distance.
Zhang Qiu was taken aback by the driver's actions; wasn't this scene straight out of a Hong Kong gangster movie? How could such chaos happen in the great capital?
"Who is chasing us?" Zhang Qiu asked.
K kept his eyes fixed on the rearview mirror and turned to respond after hearing Zhang Qiu's question.
"Don't ask unnecessary questions; just follow us. We will ensure your safety."
"But I don't believe you can protect me; otherwise, how would my whereabouts have been leaked?" Zhang Qiu began to miss the dagger that had been confiscated at City Train Station. If he had it with him, even if it wouldn't help during a car chase, at least it would provide some psychological comfort. Being empty-handed in a car that could crash at any moment while being pursued was simply too precarious.
"In this area, there are very few people we cannot protect."
K continued to focus on the rearview mirror while the driver never once glanced back, fully committed to maneuvering the Black Mercedes Sedan through traffic. The young man sitting next to Zhang Qiu mirrored his posture, also watching behind them; however, there was not a hint of emotion in his gaze. This was a trained expert.
The Black Mercedes Sedan turned onto a one-way street, and the pursuing black sedan accelerated, crashing into their rear bumper with tremendous force that jolted Zhang Qiu. He quickly buckled his seatbelt as another collision loomed. Zhang Qiu couldn't help but lament how he seemed to attract all sorts of trouble.
The Black Mercedes Sedan managed to pull slightly ahead while the black sedan continued its relentless pursuit. Not far ahead appeared a squad of SWAT officers dressed in black uniforms and armed with Type 95 automatic rifles, marching in formation toward them. Upon seeing two vehicles speeding toward them in reverse traffic, the captain immediately raised his fist and waved his hand; three SWAT team members rushed into the middle of the road and aimed their weapons.
The SWAT Captain signaled for them to stop, but upon seeing this, the speeding driver showed no signs of slowing down. "Are you crazy? There are police! You can't just charge through; stopping would be better!" Zhang Qiu shouted.
The driver ignored Zhang Qiu completely and continued to accelerate even faster. Zhang Qiu imagined bullets piercing through the car and hitting him. In that moment, he suddenly recalled Jiang Xue's face and heard his own vow echoing in his mind: I will return safely to see you.
"Stop the car!"
Zhang Qiu lunged forward to grab the steering wheel. The driver was startled and struggled against him as the Black Mercedes Sedan swerved dangerously from side to side, nearly flipping over. K and the young man in the back seat joined forces to pull Zhang Qiu back down into his seat. K was furious and shouted, "Are you insane?"
"I think you all are the crazy ones!"
Pinned in the back seat, Zhang Qiu shouted, struggling against the young man who had grabbed him. Suddenly, he caught hold of one of the young man's fingers. A barely noticeable smile appeared at the corner of Zhang Qiu's mouth as he exerted force and twisted it backward. The young man flinched, his body relaxing just for a moment, and taking advantage of that, Zhang Qiu counterattacked, breaking free from the young man's grip and throwing a punch that landed on the young man's head. Just as Zhang Qiu was about to swing a second punch, a gunshot rang out.
The SWAT Captain noticed that the two black cars showed no signs of stopping and immediately reported to headquarters for support, organizing a blockade. When the cars were less than five meters away from him, the SWAT Captain ordered them to open fire. Three Type 95 automatic rifles fired simultaneously, unleashing a torrent of 58mm rifle bullets toward the lead vehicle. Within less than a minute, ninety rounds were poured onto the front of the car. However, the more they shot, the more surprised the SWAT Captain became; this black Mercedes Sedan was actually an armored vehicle.
Seeing that the black Mercedes Sedan was about to crash into him, the SWAT Captain quickly ordered everyone to take cover while switching tactics. At that moment, the black Mercedes Sedan broke through the blockade and sped away, with the following black sedan closely trailing behind. The SWAT Captain raised his gun and fired several shots at the trailing car, pleasantly surprised to find that it was not armored. The SWAT Captain immediately shouted, "Open fire!"
But it was too late; only a few bullets struck the rear of the car. The two black sedans disappeared from the SWAT's sight, one after another. A call came through on the radio asking the SWAT Captain to report on the situation. With his head hanging low and gun in hand, he looked at the spent shell casings scattered on the ground and said, "The criminals fled towards Peaceful Street. The leading black Mercedes Sedan is an armored vehicle, while the other Black Peugeot Sedan is an ordinary vehicle with bullet holes in its rear."
"Understood!"
The SWAT Captain replied loudly and waved his hand to two team members, shouting, "Continue pursuit."
...
Inside the car, Zhang Qiu's fist hung in mid-air as he stared in shock at the dense white spots on the windshield—marks left by bullets hitting it. He was no stranger to Type 95 automatic rifles; it was his favorite type of firearm without exception. What Zhang Qiu never expected was that his connection with this rifle would occur in such a situation. Most importantly, after enduring fire from three Type 95 rifles, the black Mercedes Sedan remained unscathed; his fear of being riddled with bullets did not materialize. Now Zhang Qiu understood why K had such confidence. It seemed that this confidence was well-founded.
"Now can you put your fist down?"
The young man who had been punched by Zhang Qiu covered his face and looked at him. Zhang Qiu awkwardly nodded and retracted his fist, saying, "I'm sorry."
K turned around coldly and said, "From now on, you need to listen quietly and stop thinking about causing trouble. Stealing a speeding car? How could you even think of that? If we crash, we're all done for."
Zhang Qiu disliked K's cold demeanor as if he were the only one capable in this world. He pointed at the black car still stubbornly pursuing them behind and said, "First of all, you need to shake it off. Secondly, we've already alerted the police; this is the capital city. It won't be long before nearby police come to reinforce them. When that happens, where do we go?"
"You don't need to worry about that."
K replied curtly before turning back around. Though he sounded tough on the outside, he had to admit that Zhang Qiu's concerns were valid; he hadn't anticipated things would escalate like this either. In fact, if ordinary vehicles hadn't been dispatched already, he wouldn't have even driven an armored car. Initially, picking up a high school senior from a nearby province should have been straightforward—just driving one car with two people would suffice for a complete mission—but who knew it would turn into such chaos? With unknown vehicles chasing them from behind and potential police blockades ahead, they were truly in deep trouble.
K cursed inwardly and told the driver, "Keep accelerating and find a way to shake off that car behind us."
"Yes!"
The car continued to accelerate, still driving in a way that made one’s heart race, but Zhang Qiu would no longer try to grab the steering wheel. At this moment, the best thing he could do was trust the driver. After all, he had to consider his own life as well.
After passing two intersections, they encountered traffic again. Worse still, in the distance, police officers were running toward them. The driver began to panic and looked at K, asking, "What should we do?"
"Get out!" K decisively replied. "You keep driving, lead the police in circles, and look for a chance to escape. If it comes down to it, get out and surrender, but be sure to pay attention to safety."
The Young Man in the back seat pushed open the car door and waved at Zhang Qiu, saying, "Get out!"
Zhang Qiu nimbly leaped out of the vehicle and followed K and the Young Man into a nearby supermarket. Seeing that they had already left, the driver immediately slammed on the gas and reversed straight toward the car behind them. The people in the Black Peugeot Sedan had already seen their target being taken away and immediately hit the brakes to stop and let someone out to chase. Just as the pursuer's foot hit the ground, there was a loud bang, and he fell directly to the ground.
The two cars collided, instantly attracting the attention of those around them. The onlookers were unaware of the impending danger and thought it was just an ordinary rear-end collision. They were still curious about what those white spots on the windshield of the Black Mercedes Sedan were—could it be that Mercedes had developed some high-tech feature?
It wasn't until police officers surrounded them from all directions that people realized something was amiss. Someone shouted to run, and immediately, the crowd scattered like birds taking flight. The police saved time clearing the area as they raised their guns; some surrounded the two cars while others rushed into the supermarket to pursue those who had escaped from the vehicle.
The drivers of both cars almost simultaneously reversed. The pursuing police officers raised their guns, but none fired a shot. This was a busy urban area; firing a weapon here could cause significant social upheaval if bystanders were accidentally harmed. Quick-thinking officers laid down spike strips on the path both cars would take. As the black Peugeot drove over them, its tires popped with a loud noise, causing it to veer off and crash into a nearby utility pole. Armed police quickly surrounded it.
Unfortunately for them, that Black Mercedes Sedan had also been modified. It passed over the spike strips without any damage and executed a perfect drift before swaggering away into the alleyways.
