"What strange thing happened?" Zhang Qiu, Yang Yu, and Jiang Xue asked in unison.
"That was a long time ago," Rui Rui said as she sat down on the sofa, lost in thought. "At that time, I had just moved to the city and rented a place. One night after work, I came home exhausted and fell asleep on my bed. I don't know how long it was before a violent shaking woke me up. At first, I thought it was an earthquake, and since I didn't have time to run, I just rolled off the bed onto the floor. There was a computer desk next to the bed, so I hid beside it, thinking that even if the floor collapsed, the desk and bed would give me some space to survive."
As Rui Rui reached this point, her pupils widened in fear as if she was reliving a terrifying memory. Jiang Xue took Rui Rui's hands in hers and comforted her, saying, "Don't be afraid; we are here with you."
"Rui Rui, if you're scared, you don't have to continue."
Rui Rui shook her head vigorously and said, "Brother Qiu, I want to continue. If I don't come out with this, I'll be even more scared."
"Okay, Rui Rui, go on."
Rui Rui nodded, took a sip of water from Zhang Qiu, and continued, "At that time, I thought it was an earthquake; however, it wasn't. Only the bed was shaking."
"Could it have been a dream?"
"It could have been; I thought I was dreaming too. But now that I think about it, it definitely wasn't. After being shaken awake, I lay on the bed and still felt the shaking. At that moment, I was already awake."
Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue exchanged glances and then looked at Rui Rui again. Jiang Xue stepped forward and hugged the more mature Rui Rui gently, soothing her with soft words: "It's okay now; it's all over."
Rui Rui trembled as she said, "It hasn't gone away; there's still something very scary."
"What is it?"
"When I got back from work one day, I found the door to my apartment unlocked. There's no way I could have forgotten; I always check at least twice before leaving. Even if I'm running late, I wouldn't skip that step—especially since I had woken up early that day. At that time, I wondered if the landlord had come by to get something, so I called her to ask. She said she hadn't been there. Although I was confused, nothing was missing from my room, so I didn't think much of it. Now that I think about it, it's really terrifying."
"Wow." Jiang Xue stood by in shock; was this still the world she knew?
"Anyway, it's all in the past now. I'm going to contact the landlord today to terminate my lease; I'm never living in that haunted place again." Rui Rui slumped helplessly on the sofa; just thinking about having lived in a haunted house for so long made her feel cold all over.
"Right, it's all over now; don't think too much about it."
"Brother Qiu, I still need your help. Please come with me when I move; I'm too scared to do it alone."
"Alright, no problem. After the college entrance examination, we'll all help you move."
Rui Rui was momentarily at a loss, while Jiang Xue held her hand and continuously comforted her. Zhang Qiu and Yang Yu remained silent.
A black van screeched to a halt in front of White Day Fire, leaving four black marks on the tiled ground. The side door opened, and several strong men jumped out, carrying black long packages as they walked inside. Once they got out, the van sped away.
"Brother Qiu, we're back."
Zhang Qiu looked at the brothers holding the Black Package and smiled, "Did you bring everything back?"
"We brought it back, Brother Qiu. Just as you ordered, we didn't get the fried chicken wings."
Zhang Qiu stood up to take the package and said, "Everyone come upstairs with me. No outsiders are allowed up."
"Understood!"
"Xue'er, stay downstairs with Rui Rui while Yang Yu and I go up to work."
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on things here."
Zhang Qiu carried the long package upstairs with Yang Yu, while two brothers stood on either side of the staircase, arms crossed in front of them.
As soon as they entered the office, Zhang Qiu placed the package on the Tea Table and opened it, revealing five brand new Type 56 semi-automatic rifles laid among a pile of yellow bullets. Yang Yu looked on in surprise and said, "Brother Qiu, they didn't bring all the bullets too, did they? There's so many."
"Our brothers are quite reliable."
Zhang Qiu smiled as he picked up one of the rifles, loaded a bullet into it, aimed, then ejected it again, praising, "Good gun; it's still functioning well after all this time."
Yang Yu also picked up a rifle and tried to load it like Zhang Qiu did but struggled. Zhang Qiu pressed down on the barrel and said, "Don't rush; I'll teach you. Don't be in such a hurry to load the bullet."
Zhang Qiu taught Yang Yu using the method Wang Hailong had shown him, disassembling one rifle for Yang Yu to assemble. He laughed and said, "You can play with this for now."
"No problem. Brother Qiu, where should we put these guns?"
"Just leave them in the venue, find a place to hide them."
"Okay."
"Once you learn, find four reliable brothers to teach them as well. At the same time, be sure to keep it confidential; this will be our secret weapon."
"Don't worry, Brother Qiu, I know what to do."
"Good."
Zhang Qiu smiled as he thought of the mysterious individuals in the capital who had threatened him with guns. Bring it on; now he had weapons to counter them. If they wanted the White Tiger, they wouldn't stand a chance.
Zhang Qiu's phone rang. He answered and laughed, "Sister Lan, what's up?"
"What’s wrong with you? Aren't you going to let me upstairs?"
"You finished your business that quickly?"
"Of course, we're very efficient, okay?"
"Alright, I'm coming down now."
"That's more like it. I'll wait for you; hurry up."
Zhang Qiu hung up the phone and said to Yang Yu, who was practicing shooting, "Stop for now. Put everything away and find a place to hide them; Sister Lan is here. From her tone, she might have discovered something."
Yang Yu replied, "Brother Qiu, you go down first. I'll take care of hiding the guns."
Zhang Qiu went down the stairs and halfway down called out to Lan Ningshan, who was sitting on the sofa on the first floor, "Sister Lan, I'm here."
Lan Ningshan raised her head and smiled, "Zhang Qiu, what are you sneaking around on the second floor for?"
"What else could I be doing? Just hanging out," Zhang Qiu replied casually.
"Is that really all?"
Zhang Qiu felt uncomfortable under Lan Ningshan's smile and moved closer to ask, "What do you mean by that, Sister Lan?"
"What do you think I mean?" Lan Ningshan laughed as she patted Zhang Qiu's shoulder. "I have no intention of interfering with you, so why hide it from me? I haven't told anyone above about anything."
Zhang Qiu's discomfort vanished, replaced by surprise as he looked at Lan Ningshan. He thought to himself that in the ancient city, she wouldn't even want to spend more time with him. How could she be willing now that we took something from her?
Lan Ningshan noticed Zhang Qiu's expression. Although he tried hard to conceal it, she accurately caught the surprise in his eyes and teased, "Don't you trust your Sister Lan?"
"I do, it's just..."
"No 'just'," Lan Ningshan interrupted Zhang Qiu. "I just hope you can treat me like one of your own, okay?"
"Okay." Zhang Qiu nodded in a daze; today's Lan Ningshan was a bit hard for him to understand.
"I know your situation. Is someone threatening you? They have guns, so you want them too. As long as you promise me not to use those guns for bad things, I won't interfere with you. You're different from those other thugs."
Her words were clear enough, and Zhang Qiu didn't play coy. He grabbed Lan Ningshan's hand and smiled, "Thank you, Sister Lan! I really appreciate it!"
"If you have me in your heart, I'll have you in mine."
After Lan Ningshan finished speaking, she felt several sharp gazes on her. Besides Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue and Rui Rui were also staring at her. Realizing she had misspoken, Lan Ningshan quickly explained, "What I meant is that you didn't take everything away; you left enough for me to handle things without feeling awkward. Whether it's to help me or to avoid being investigated yourself, either way, you've helped me, and I'm willing to help you."
Lan Ningshan then walked over to Jiang Xue and hugged her, adding, "Now that you have those things, you'll have the means to protect Sister Xue. But if you use them for bad deeds, I'll have to catch you myself."
"I'll keep that in mind." Zhang Qiu raised his right hand and tapped his chest. "I'm speechless here; Xue'er is my wife. Look at you two hugging; I'm getting jealous!"
"Hmph, feel jealous? Then you should hug."
Lan Ningshan held Jiang Xue even tighter, while Rui Rui opened her arms. Jiang Xue, who was not short to begin with, looked like a pitiful girl caught in the bear hugs of the two. Zhang Qiu smiled with a wronged expression and said, "Xue'er, can you bear to see me jealous?"
Jiang Xue replied without hesitation, "Of course I can! You big bad guy, you deserve to be jealous."
"Ah, it hurts. Do you know how I feel right now?"
"What do you feel?"
Zhang Qiu shrugged and said, "It's like my hard-grown cabbage has been taken away."
As soon as Zhang Qiu finished speaking, three cushions flew toward him simultaneously. Zhang Qiu dodged left and right, catching the three cushions in his hands and smiling as he approached the three girls.
"Why so violent? Girls should be a bit gentler to be cute."
"Gentleness is easy! Brother Qiu, why don't you come here?"
Rui Rui stood up to pull Zhang Qiu, but he quickly stepped back. Seeing Yang Yu coming downstairs, he directly hid behind her. Yang Yu turned around in confusion and asked, "Brother Qiu, what are you doing?"
"Your Brother Qiu is being bullied."
"Who dares to bully you? We..." Yang Yu started but suddenly understood something and swallowed the rest of her words. She then said, "Brother Qiu, I won't get involved."
Yang Yu laughed and ran off to one side. Just as Rui Rui was about to continue "catching" Zhang Qiu, her phone rang. Zhang Qiu said, "Rui Rui, answer the phone quickly."
Rui Rui went back to the bar to pick up her phone. After connecting, she responded with a few "mm-hmms." Having escaped a crisis, Zhang Qiu sat back on the sofa and hurriedly asked when he saw Rui Rui turn around, "Rui Rui, whose call is it?"
"It's Biao Ge calling."
"What happened?"
"Boss, Boss has passed away."
"Meng the Boss has died?" Zhang Qiu exclaimed. Zhang Qiu learned about Meng the Boss being hospitalized while under police surveillance at the hospital. What Zhang Qiu didn't expect was that Meng the Boss would leave so soon.
"That's right, it's Meng the Boss. I heard from Biao Ge that he passed away in the hospital."
"Alright."
Zhang Qiu sighed. Although he and Meng the Boss were not acquainted and had never met, Meng the Boss had helped him during the incident when Jiang Xue stabbed Liu Xiaofei, which made him feel indebted. Zhang Qiu said, "Let's go to the hospital."
"Boss, you have your college entrance examination coming up, so you don't need to go," Rui Rui said.
"No, Meng the Boss helped me; he assisted Jiang Xue. Now that he's gone, I must pay my respects."
Rui Rui hesitated for a moment and said, "Well, okay then."
"Then let's set off."
