Outside a hospital ward, a crowd had gathered, and the security guard stood alert nearby, watching the unexpected visitors. Zhang Qiu pushed through the crowd, but a few strong men blocked the entrance, saying, "Wait outside, no entry allowed."
Zhang Qiu nodded and squeezed out of the crowd with Yang Yu, Jiang Xue, and Rui Rui, sitting down on a bench against the wall. Suddenly, he felt a strange gaze upon him. Following the feeling, he saw Third Brother's red-haired companion staring at him from within the crowd. Upon noticing Zhang Qiu, the red-haired man walked directly toward him.
The red-haired man stepped onto a bench and looked down from his elevated position. "Surprised to see you here again."
"Yeah, what a coincidence."
A smile appeared on Zhang Qiu's lips. Bang! Ouch!
A loud crash was followed by a scream as the red-haired man clutched his mouth and rolled on the ground. Zhang Qiu had kicked him in the leg, causing him to lose balance and fall, hitting his mouth on the edge of the bench and bleeding profusely.
The commotion drew everyone's attention at the ward entrance. The previously noisy groups suddenly fell silent, pushing against each other while cursing loudly.
"Stop it!"
Just as the security guard was about to call for backup, the ward door swung open from inside. A thin young man with a pale face stepped out, his shadowy gaze sending chills down people's spines. He stood at the entrance and shouted, "My dad just left, and you're all ready to rebel?"
It seemed this was Scorpion; Zhang Qiu deduced his identity from how others referred to him. Until now, Zhang Qiu had never met Scorpion and didn't even know his full name. He had only heard that Scorpion earned his nickname due to his ruthless nature.
"What are you all doing?!"
A familiar voice boomed through the crowd as Brother Leopard's imposing figure stood at the entrance with great authority.
The restless Brothers quieted down and turned their attention to the door. Scorpion scanned everyone one by one before smiling slightly. "The Stone Dagger Gang is my father's lifelong work. If anyone wants to ruin it, I will not allow it. From now on, all departments of the gang will continue as usual except for mourning activities. Stay vigilant and be wary of anyone trying to cause trouble."
Less than half of the people responded, and Scorpion's expression darkened as he looked at those who remained silent, shouting, "Do you all understand?"
"Understood!"
The response was sparse. Scorpion snorted coldly and turned back to the hospital room.
Abiao walked through the crowd and approached Zhang Qiu, looking at the red-haired person lying on the ground. He said coldly, "Get him out of here."
Immediately, someone came forward to drag the red-haired man away. Abiao sat down next to Zhang Qiu and spoke before Zhang Qiu could say anything, "You really didn't need to come."
"Meng the Boss did me a favor; I came to see him off one last time."
Abiao nodded, patting Zhang Qiu's shoulder. He pointed at the group of people outside the hospital room and said, "Did you see that? With Meng the Boss gone, the factions are already very clear. The Second Brother's people clearly don't take Scorpion seriously."
"Scorpion earned that name; he's not so easy to deal with."
"Of course not, but you have to understand that Third Brother became Third Brother by fighting his way up. Although Scorpion is formidable, he is still younger than us. The experiences we've gone through are far different from what Brother Leopard and his crew have faced. Moreover," Abiao glanced into the hospital room before continuing, "Scorpion doesn't seem to be in a good state."
Zhang Qiu nodded, following Biao Ge's reasoning; it was clear that the Stone Dagger Gang was headed for chaos.
"The time has come for the gang to need you. The position of White Day Fire is crucial; you must hold your ground. Also, study well for your exams; Brother Leopard will personally celebrate with you once you're done."
Abiao stood up to leave when Zhang Qiu called out to him, "Biao Ge."
"En?" Brother Biao turned around.
"Thank you, and please thank Brother Leopard for me."
Abiao nodded and walked away. Zhang Qiu looked at the two groups of people obviously divided outside the hospital room and shook his head silently. The saying that a solid fortress is often breached from within is indeed true.
The hospital room door opened, and Scorpion personally pushed the stretcher out. A white cloth covered the stretcher, under which lay a gaunt figure. Brother Leopard stood beside it, his eyes slightly red and his movements slow. Third Brother pushed the stretcher with one hand, a faint smile appearing at the corner of his mouth. As soon as the stretcher was brought out, the Brothers outside immediately surged forward.
Zhang Qiu watched them walk to the elevator and turned to say, "Let's go."
Rui Rui asked, "Brother Qiu, aren't you going over?"
Zhang Qiu shook his head. "No, let's head back."
When they reached downstairs, Lan Ningshan asked, "Is everything taken care of?"
Zhang Qiu nodded and said, "Take me to the police station."
"To the police station?"
"Yes, I have something to take care of."
"Alright."
Lan Ningshan did not ask further and drove to the police station. Zhang Qiu said before getting out of the car, "You all wait here for a moment; I'll be out soon."
Jiang Xue nodded, "We'll wait for you."
Zhang Qiu had one foot out of the car when Rui Rui pulled his arm. Zhang Qiu turned back and asked, "What's wrong, Rui Rui?"
Rui Rui hesitated, and Zhang Qiu said, "If there's something on your mind, just say it. There's nothing we can't talk about."
"Brother Qiu, I..." Rui Rui still found it hard to speak.
"Are you wondering what I'm here for?"
Seeing Rui Rui nod, Zhang Qiu smiled and said, "Don't worry; I won't do anything that would harm us. Can you trust me?"
"I can trust you." Rui Rui nodded firmly and released her grip on Zhang Qiu's arm.
Zhang Qiu was already familiar with this place, especially after assisting the police in cracking down on Chen Hu's drug trafficking case, which made his name circulate within the police force. Zhang Qiu handed his ID to the guard, who smiled and returned it while giving Zhang Qiu a thumbs-up, saying, "You won't need to show your ID anymore; that case was handled brilliantly. You're truly Director He's nephew."
This guard knew how to talk; with one sentence, he praised both He Jun and Zhang Qiu. Zhang Qiu casually replied, "Helping the police is the responsibility of every citizen."
Putting away his ID, Zhang Qiu headed straight for He Jun's office. When he entered, He Jun was working. Seeing Zhang Qiu, he was slightly surprised and then said, "The exam is tomorrow, right?"
"Yes, it's tomorrow."
He Jun personally brought a cup of water to Zhang Qiu and smiled, "The comrades in the bureau are currently working on your rhyming exam papers. How are you feeling? Nervous?"
"I'm not nervous; I've been waiting for this for a long time."
"You're looking forward to having some fun, right?"
Seeing that He Jun had hit the nail on the head, Zhang Qiu chuckled, "Yes."
"You did a good job on the Chen Hu case; Captain Wang told me all about it. Thanks to your creative ideas. I heard you took a female officer to a hotel?"
"Cough!" Zhang Qiu choked on a sip of water. He Jun laughed, "Don't get too excited. You're not just here to see me today, are you?"
"Of course not. I have something important to tell you."
"What is it?" Upon hearing that there was something serious, He Jun immediately sat up straight, his smile replaced by a serious expression, transforming from a friendly uncle into a stern bureau chief in an instant.
"The leader of the Stone Dagger Gang in our county, Meng Tuanjie, passed away today."
"Stone Dagger Gang." He Jun repeated the name of the gang thoughtfully. "You know these people quite well, don't you?"
"That's right; I'm very familiar with them." Zhang Qiu did not avoid He Jun's gaze.
"Then you should keep your distance from these people. Chen Hu was just the beginning; I will not allow any large illegal organizations to exist in Beilan County!"
Zhang Qiu scoffed, "If I keep my distance from these people, can I find evidence against Chen Hu? Would I even be here to tell you about it?"
He Jun was momentarily at a loss for words, avoiding the topic and directly asking, "What do you want to tell me?"
Zhang Qiu didn't mind He Jun changing the subject; after all, he was there to inform him. Since learning about Meng Tuanjie’s incident, Zhang Qiu had been contemplating the various possibilities of what might happen next. He ultimately concluded that he should inform his uncle.
Zhang Qiu said, "After Meng Tuanjie’s death, his subordinate Third Brother is very likely to take advantage of the situation. And then there's Lin Tao; do you know him?"
"I've heard of him."

"You, it's fine now, you can go."
Zhang Qiu felt puzzled and stood at the door for a moment before leaving. He Jun watched Zhang Qiu depart and convened a meeting with various departments that evening. During the meeting, He Jun emphasized public security once again, making several areas in Beilan County, particularly Blue Demon Entertainment City, key focus points for increased police presence, especially enhancing night patrols.
The police who had just cracked the major case involving Chen Hu were still basking in the joy of victory. Seeing Director He’s arrangements, they speculated that he must want to capitalize on their success. Those officers who had not made significant contributions in the Chen Hu case vowed to perform well in this operation and strive for achievements.
That evening, Zhang Qiu took Jiang Xue home for dinner. Upon arriving home, he was surprised to find his father there. "Dad, you're back!" Zhang Qiu exclaimed.
"You all have exams coming up, so of course I had to come back to be with you," Zhang Zhi Hua said with a grin while sitting on the sofa, unable to contain his joy. His children were about to take their college entrance exams; after that, they would go to university and eventually find jobs. His daughter Zhang Qiu already had a boyfriend, and even if their current home was being redeveloped, they could still exchange it for a new one. The future was looking bright.
"Kids, dinner is ready!"
He Mei had prepared a lavish spread of dishes and kept serving food to Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue while smiling. "Xue'er, eat more! This is all nutritious food I specially prepared for you. Make sure to replenish your energy and get a good night's sleep tonight; everything will be perfect."
Zhang Zhi Hua added from the side, "Yes, eat more and relax; don’t be too nervous."
As they were halfway through dinner, a rumble echoed in the sky, and rain began pouring down. The raindrops splattered against the glass, and Zhang Qiu gazed out the window lost in thought.
