The emergence of the Bai Ethnic Group has stirred quite a commotion in the imperial capital of the Exiled Nation. For now, let it blow fiercely; within the Millennium Ruins, isolated from the world, even if key figures are involved, they can only stare blankly. Unless they leave this place, nothing can be accomplished.
Of course, those outside the Millennium Ruins want to know about the situation inside, while those inside may not necessarily wish to know about the outside. This is somewhat different from a besieged city; not everyone is thinking about the world beyond the walls.
At least here, Ouyang Zixin can temporarily set aside thoughts of her mother. Whether it’s an adventure or treasure hunting, as long as she can sort out her thoughts and emotions afterward, that would be good enough.
After spending a night in Yun Tianmo's embrace, she seems to feel better. Her slightly swollen eyes returned to normal after being washed with clean water provided by Nameless. Everyone gathered in the center of the Underground Palace, which was where the Small Stone Box had been discovered, but now it was completely empty.
“Ouyang Zixin, good morning!” Nangong Tuo shouted from a distance upon seeing Ouyang Zixin slowly approaching, worried that she might not notice him.
“Good morning,” Ouyang Zixin replied weakly; she still had some politeness left.
When Zhao Feihong appeared yesterday, Ouyang Zixin had already left, so she hadn’t seen him. However, seeing him standing next to Zhao Feiyu and noticing their similar appearances made her realize who this additional person was. Now that they had just escaped the three-way standoff between Exiled Nation, Cloud Nation, and Dream Nation, two fellow countrymen from Exiled Nation had arrived, creating an even split. Was this also part of the designer's plan?
That would be truly mysterious.
Before long, Yun Tianying appeared alongside Yun Tianmo, accompanied by a robust man whom she had not seen before.
“Who is that person?”
“Hey, brother, is that you?”
The Zhao siblings spoke almost simultaneously. Zhao Feiyu was surprised to find that his brother recognized the man walking beside the Ink King and quickly turned to ask, “Brother, do you know him?”
Zhao Feihong nodded; this brother was someone he had traveled with before. If they hadn’t encountered Nangong Tuo in distress, they would still be traveling together. He didn’t expect to see him again so soon. But why was he with Yun Tianmo and the others? Could it be...
The man was dressed in black, tall and straight. His face was of a type that you wouldn’t recognize if thrown into a crowd. He cupped his hands toward Zhao Feihong as a greeting but acted as if he didn’t see anyone else. If one observed closely, they could notice his gaze sweeping over Ouyang Zixin; a hint of reverence flashed in his eyes but was concealed too quickly for anyone to catch.
This man was Yun Tianmo's shadow guard; Ouyang Zixin had heard about him yesterday. That’s why she felt everything seemed too coincidental—originally there were more people from Exiled Nation, but now it seemed equal in number.
—Master. The Exiled Nation still has more people.
Not at all; it’s clearly equal. The Zhao siblings plus Nangong Tuo make three; Yun Tianmo and Yun Tianying plus a shadow guard also make three. Isn’t that equal?
——Master, and you as well.
……
Since when did Ouyang Zixin stop considering herself a part of Exiled Nation? But why didn’t she see herself as part of Cloud Nation either?
It was all so confusing, and it all started when she woke up early that morning—
To avoid suspicion, the first thing Ouyang Zixin did upon waking was to send Yun Tianmo away. Although he was extremely reluctant and his expression was quite dark, he had no choice but to leave early due to Ouyang Zixin's insistence.
Besides avoiding suspicion, there was another important reason for her to get rid of Yun Tianmo.
She had noticed some unusual changes in her body; it felt strange, as if something extra had appeared inside her, making her quite uncomfortable. However, after some examination, she found nothing unusual. Instead, her head felt increasingly heavy, and everything seemed vague. So much so that when Zhao Feiyu introduced Zhao Feihong to her, she didn’t even hear him, appearing absent-minded.
Yun Tianmo glanced at her but couldn’t discern anything wrong, so he said directly, “Since we are gathered here, let’s act together.”
This was decided after he returned and discussed it with Yun Tianying. It wasn’t because there was strength in numbers; rather, he needed to keep an eye on Nangong Tuo. Although Nangong Tuo’s constant attention on Ouyang Zixin annoyed him greatly, he chose to endure for the greater good.
One day, he would make Nangong Tuo retreat.
Naturally, Nangong Tuo was unwilling to act together. He believed that the people of Exiled Nation should operate independently; why should they join forces with those from Cloud Nation? He immediately voiced his opposition.
“Yun Tianmo, the road is wide enough for everyone to go their own way. Why should we act together? If we come across any treasures, who gets what?” This statement seemed reasonable; however, given Nangong Tuo’s unfortunate luck at the moment, hoping to stumble upon any Fortune Day was nothing short of wishful thinking.
Zhao Feihong agreed with Nangong Tuo’s viewpoint. Having more people wasn’t necessarily a good thing; within the Millennium Ruins, everyone should rely on their own abilities. Of course, luck was also crucial.
“Brother!” Zhao Feiyu understood why her brother felt this way. They had agreed last night to keep Nangong Tuo in the dark about Ouyang Zixin's close relationship with Yun Tianmo. However, acting separately was too dangerous. Even though Ouyang Zixin had the Small Stone Box and had a better chance in the Millennium Ruins, what they didn’t know was that every time Ouyang Zixin used the Small Stone Box, she relied on Yun Tianmo’s assistance.
Zhao Feihong shot a glare at his sister, signaling her to remain silent; it was better to let the Third Prince decide on this matter. Frustrated, Zhao Feiyu stomped her foot and stepped aside, ignoring him.
“It seems opinions are not unified,” Yun Tianying said with a smile. “How about this: let everyone act according to their wishes? Those who agree to act together can do so; those who don’t can leave.”
At first glance, this sounded quite democratic; however, the underlying dominance was unmistakable. Indeed, members of the royal family exuded an air of authority even when addressing someone suffering from severe ailments due to poisoning.
Nangong Tuo immediately found this agreeable and pointed at several members of Exiled Nation, including Ouyang Zixin. “They will follow This Prince’s lead; you two may leave.”
"Oh?" Yun Tianying looked at him with amusement, not understanding why he was so certain that they would follow Nangong Tuo, especially Ouyang Zixin.
"That's right, we are traveling with the Third Prince. You two can do as you please," Zhao Feihong chimed in from the side, pulling his sister along to Nangong Tuo's side.
As Nangong Tuo proudly lifted his chin to look at Yun Tianmo, his gaze held a hint of provocation. However, he noticed that Ouyang Zixin was still standing in place and walked over to her, reaching out to pull her along. "Ouyang Zixin, let's move together."
"Huh?" Ouyang Zixin finally came to her senses, looking at Nangong Tuo who was holding her hand with a bewildered expression.
"What's wrong with you? Didn't we agree to act separately? Cloud Nation belongs to Cloud Nation, Exiled Nation belongs to Exiled Nation. Come over here," Nangong Tuo boasted as he glanced at Yun Tianmo, his expression as if to say, see, Ouyang Zixin is definitely on my side.
Separate from Yun Tianmo? Who said that?!
Ouyang Zixin finally understood what Nangong Tuo was saying and shook off his hand. "Separate actions? Then I'll go with Yun Tianmo and the others." With that, she walked over to Yun Tianmo without giving Nangong Tuo any face, leaving him standing there in shock.
The victorious feeling he had just experienced vanished in an instant as he saw the slight smirk on Yun Tianmo's lips. Anger made him clench his fists, but he didn't dare vent it on Ouyang Zixin and could only point at Yun Tianmo. "What exactly did you do to Ouyang Zixin?!"
Ouyang Zixin stopped in her tracks upon hearing this and turned to look at Nangong Tuo, slowly saying, "Didn't we say each according to their own will? What does he need to do to me?"
Nangong Tuo was left speechless with anger but had no way to refute her. He could only attribute this grievance to Yun Tianmo in his mind, thinking that he must not let Yun Tianmo succeed. Yet he shamelessly said, "Then let's all go together! All of us together!" (To be continued.)
