"Miss, Miss..." Liu Ying called softly from outside the door, straining to listen for any sounds from within.
Just then, the Housekeeper passed by, frowning as she approached Liu Ying and cleared her throat. "You can no longer refer to her as 'Miss'; from now on, you should call her 'Princess.'"
"Understood." Liu Ying complied readily, as this title had already been mentioned by the Miss herself, and there was no need to argue with the Housekeeper about it.
"Is the Princess still not up?" The Housekeeper looked up at the sun. "It's not good to skip breakfast." She seemed about to say more but suddenly fell silent, only instructing Liu Ying to take good care of the Princess before hurriedly leaving.
Liu Ying watched her retreating figure in confusion, thinking that the Housekeeper was indeed a bit strange.
"Is that you, Liu Ying? Come in." Ouyang Zixin's lazy voice came from inside the room. Ever since she got married, it seemed she had been waking up later and later.
"Miss, I found out what you asked me to investigate." Liu Ying glanced outside to ensure no one was around before closing the door and walking in.
At that moment, Ouyang Zixin had propped herself up, wrapped in blankets with only her head visible. "What did you find out?"
A few days ago, Yun Tianmo had sent Liu Ying and Liu Lu away under the pretext of having them learn the rules of Yun Residence. They had just returned last night, and Ouyang Zixin had given Liu Ying a task. With the drawing phase of the competition nearing its end, she needed to understand how the subsequent rankings would work.
She could have directly asked Yun Tianmo, but she worried he might overthink it. So she decided to let Liu Ying gather information first; if nothing could be learned, she could always ask later.
"The next round of the competition will follow the order of winners from the drawing," Liu Ying explained carefully.
The drawing was just the beginning; after that, the winners of the first and second matches would compete against each other. It was a straightforward pairing process that was only slightly less random than drawing lots.
Upon hearing this, Ouyang Zixin felt it was rather childish. If the people lined up were from the same country, wouldn't that lead to them fighting among themselves? There was even a possibility they could belong to the same family.
After listening to Ouyang Zixin's question, Liu Ying smiled lightly and said, "At first, I thought the same, but I don't know if it was just a coincidence or what, I ran into someone on the street who clarified things for me."
"Don't keep me in suspense!" Ouyang Zixin rubbed her eyes; she didn't want to think too hard this early in the morning and urged Liu Ying to hurry up and tell her.
"The person I ran into was Zhao Feiyu. It seems she has already woken up, and from what I can see, she appears to be fine," Liu Ying said, tilting her head as she recounted her encounter with Zhao Feiyu—
"Stop right there."
Liu Ying turned around and was surprised to see that the person calling her was Zhao Feiyu. Hadn't she heard that Zhao Feiyu had been in a coma since returning from the Millennium Ruins? Why did she look fine now?
But she wondered what Zhao Feiyu wanted with her.
Zhao Feiyu stepped forward, scanning the surroundings before confirming that the person she was looking for was not there. She then turned to Liu Ying and asked, "Where is your young lady?"
Zhao Feiyu had once been considered an enemy by Liu Ying, but later, after hearing about her from the young lady, it seemed that Zhao Feiyu wasn't so bad after all. However, now that the young lady had become Consort Mo, not just anyone could casually inquire about her whereabouts.
Seeing Liu Ying's cautious expression, Zhao Feiyu couldn't help but smile wryly; indeed, once a person makes a mistake in their life, they are often guarded against for a lifetime.
"I have something to remind her about. If you won't say anything, then forget it," Zhao Feiyu said as she turned to leave.
A reminder?
Liu Ying thought to herself, what could possibly need reminding for the young lady in the capital? It was just a competition.
Recalling that she had come out to inquire about the competition, she quickly called out to Zhao Feiyu, saying, "Miss Zhao, please don't take offense. After all, my young lady is now in the position of Consort Mo, so... I hope you understand any inconveniences. I'm just curious about what you wanted to remind my young lady about?"
Upon hearing that Ouyang Zixin had become Consort Mo, Zhao Feiyu seemed taken aback for a moment but quickly regained her composure, muttering, "So they have already come together."
Thinking back to her days in the Millennium Ruins, she had sensed that the relationship between Ouyang Zixin and Yun Tianmo was not simple. She never expected that the first news she would hear upon waking up would be this.
"Miss Zhao?" Liu Ying wondered why Zhao Feiyu suddenly seemed lost in thought and called out to her.
"Please convey my congratulations to your young lady, oh no, Consort Mo." Zhao Feiyu's smile appeared somewhat stiff, but it was clear that her blessing was sincere.
"Today I inadvertently heard some rumors that I think she would be interested in, so... come closer, I'll tell you."
Liu Ying approached with some skepticism. As she listened to Zhao Feiyu's words, her expression grew increasingly surprised. After finishing, she exclaimed, "Really?"
Zhao Feiyu nodded. "It's highly likely true."
"Thank you for informing me, Miss Zhao." Liu Ying bowed slightly and was about to leave when Zhao Feiyu added, "Even if it's false, it can serve as a precaution."
"So what exactly did she say to you?" Ouyang Zixin looked at Liu Ying.
"The information that Zhao Feiyu shared with me is directly related to what you are worried about, young lady." Liu Ying wasn't trying to keep her in suspense; it was just that Ouyang Zixin's mind seemed a bit foggy after just waking up. She was afraid that if she spoke too quickly or simply, it wouldn't be good. "Aren't you concerned about encountering someone from the same country or family during the competition? From what I gathered from Zhao Feiyu, it seems someone is deliberately orchestrating this with the aim of undermining certain already allied families."
"What does it mean?"
"It means that in this competition disguised as a war, some families seem to have formed alliances, but behind the scenes, they have made certain deals with others for their own interests," Liu Ying explained. "And Zhao Feiyu's implication is that Miss Consort Mo's identity is likely to be one of the first targets of these calculations."
"Targeting me?" Ouyang Zixin exclaimed, pointing a finger at herself. "Why?"
"Because you are both from the Exiled Nation and the Cloud Nation."
"This..."
"Miss, Miss, I'm back!" Liu Lvy's voice interrupted the conversation between the two in the room.
Seeing the weary Liu Lvy, Ouyang Zixin speculated, "Did you have an unexpected gain as well?"
"Eh? Miss, how did you know?" Liu Lvy was puzzled; she had intended to surprise her but it seemed like Ouyang Zixin already knew.
Ouyang Zixin shook her head. "I don't know; you tell me."
"Miss, I got the order of participants for the upcoming competition," Liu Lvy said as she pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket, densely written with many characters, and presented it to Ouyang Zixin like a treasure.
