As it approached six in the evening, Chen Zao, dressed in a sweaty camouflage outfit, arrived at the frequently visited Air Raid Shelter. 0

It was still the empty warehouse number 8. 0

He closed the heavy iron door. 0

Sitting cross-legged on the ground, he waited for the Time-Space Dragon Ring to recharge its energy. 0

Unlike the usual routine of waiting until it was fully charged before coming to the Air Raid Shelter, this time Chen Zao had arrived early, eager to travel to the apocalypse. 0

This urgency was mainly because it was getting late. After crossing over, he would still have to traverse a dangerous Rainforest to reach Luohanpo Base. 0

He needed to make the most of his time; otherwise, it would be too dangerous to enter the Rainforest once it was completely dark. 0

Normally, if it were this late, Chen Zao would definitely stay longer in the Golden Age and wait until dawn to cross over. 0

But today, having just sold a Stone Carving and made a fortune, Chen Zao's desire to venture into the apocalypse for profit was overwhelming, akin to a gambler who refuses to stop after winning money. 0

He really didn't want to wait any longer; he had to go to the apocalypse tonight and reap a new round of rewards! 0

He wondered how Ren Xiao's efforts in saving the beautiful world were progressing. 0

Regardless of the outcome, this time when he reached the apocalypse, Chen Zao would make sure to reward this behind-the-scenes hero who had helped him become a millionaire. 0

"Ding!" 0

The energy gauge of the Time-Space Dragon Ring was fully charged. 0

A clear ringing sound resonated in his mind. 0

Chen Zao stood up, gripping the bloody butcher knife tightly in his left hand, while his right hand drew a cross over his chest, reciting devoutly, "Amitabha." 0

He opened the portal to time and space once again. 0

With a single step, he crossed a hundred years! 0

He arrived in the hot and humid apocalypse. 0

The stench hit him like an exhilarating stimulant, making Chen Zao feel particularly excited. 0

It seemed that he was growing more fond of this dangerous and challenging world of the apocalypse. 0

As usual, he first checked Warehouse No. 8. Seeing no abnormalities, Chen Zao pulled open the heavy iron door and cautiously walked into the long corridor outside. 0

On his way toward the cave entrance, Chen Zao caught a whiff of a strange burnt smell. 0

It seemed as if someone had burned something in this cave or was currently doing so. 0

This heightened Chen Zao's alertness, prompting him to quicken his pace toward the exit. 0

Just as he approached the cave mouth, the strange burnt smell vanished. 0

But Chen Zao still did not dare to let his guard down, tightly gripping the Curved Blade, his mind remaining tense. 0

After exiting the cave, he arrived at the open Rainforest area, where he could finally relax a bit. 0

The colors were growing darker. 0

In less than an hour, it would be completely dark. 0

Chen Zao had to hurry to Luohan Slope. 0

Following the familiar path through the Rainforest, Chen Zao plunged in, sheathing the Curved Blade on his back, ready to sprint ahead. 0

Suddenly, an unexpected event occurred ahead. 0

Not far away, a charred human corpse fell from a lush mutated tree! 0

What the hell! 0

Chen Zao was startled and quickly drew out the Curved Blade again, leaping onto a nearby twisted tree to gain a vantage point and stay alert. 0

He thought there might be some mutated monster in the trees ahead. 0

Upon closer inspection, however, he saw nothing. 0

He remained tense and vigilant, scanning his surroundings. 0

The sounds of the Mutated Insect and bird calls clearly reached Chen Zao's ears. 0

The wind rustled the enormous mutated leaves, creating a "pop, pop" sound. 0

Everything seemed normal, with no apparent abnormalities. 0

But how did that Charred Corpse end up here? 0

Chen Zao was filled with questions. 0

His heart raced as he approached. 0

Standing about five or six meters away from the Charred Corpse, Chen Zao took a closer look at its condition. 0

The figure appeared to have been burned by something; its skin was completely charred, blackened as if coated in tar. 0

However, its clothing was not entirely burned away. 0

At least one-third of the fabric remained intact. 0

The leather utility belt around its waist was also completely undamaged. 0

The boot on its left foot showed signs of charring, fused to the foot itself. 0

Yet, the pants on its left leg were unharmed and showed no signs of burning. 0

A strong contrast formed with the lower left body; the boot on its right foot was intact, while the pants on its right leg were burned to shreds, charred and fused with the skin, making it impossible to tell if there were rough fibers of fabric within that scorched black leg. 0

Chen Zao couldn't understand how this guy ended up in such a tragic state. 0

Judging by the person's physique and attire, he must have been a tall male hunter in life. 0

Although his body had been burned and shrunk, he still stood over one hundred seventy-five centimeters tall. 0

In a post-apocalyptic world, being this tall indicated that he likely had a high chance of being an intermediate-level warrior, or even possibly an Advanced Warrior! 0

What kind of monster could reduce such a formidable warrior to this horrifying state? 0

Or was it another skilled human who had burned him like this? 0

Chen Zao suddenly felt a chill run down his spine; he realized that there must be great danger hidden nearby. 0

It was better not to linger here; he needed to move quickly! 0

Summoning his courage, Chen Zao approached the Charred Corpse. 0

As he got closer, a cold expression spread across his dark face. He struck down several times at the already deflated blackened back of the Charred Corpse's head, completely smashing it to pieces. 0

Black blood and brain matter flowed out from within, emitting an extremely foul odor. 0

Chen Zao silently recited, "Namo Great Vow Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva." 0

Wiping the corrupted blood off the Curved Blade on the thick leaves beside him, he passed by the Charred Corpse and sprinted towards the Luohanpo Base. 0

Chen Zao had just chopped off the head of that Charred Corpse, not out of a twisted desire to desecrate it, but to truly liberate it. 0

The environment in the apocalypse is extremely cruel and bizarre. Once Survivors are killed, if their bodies are not dealt with, they will soon be invaded by the Deep Sea Virus in the air, turning into a walking corpse with fish-scale scars, known as a Scaled Corpse. 0

Ordinary Scaled Corpses move slowly and have low intelligence, resembling the low-level zombies from biopunk movies, posing little threat to humans. 0

However, over time, Scaled Corpses will be catalyzed and upgraded by the Deep Sea Virus in the air and within their own bodies, developing various terrifying attributes and evolving into Mutated Scale Corpses. At this point, they become a significant threat to humans. 0

If Mutated Scale Corpses are not eliminated, after prolonged viral catalysis, they could even transform into the terrifying Mutated Scaled Corpse King! 0

By then, it would become exceptionally difficult for humans to kill them, and eliminating them would provide no substantial benefit to human Survivors. Unlike Deep Sea Beasts, which possess Energy Cores that can be refined into Beast Oil, Scaled Corpses offer only threats with no utility. 0

Therefore, before human corpses are controlled by the virus and turned into Scaled Corpses, Survivors must quickly deal with them in the wild to prevent future troubles. 0

The method of handling them is to smash the heads of these corpses or Scaled Corpses to let their brain matter flow out. This way, even if the Deep Sea Virus manages to control a corpse and turn it into a walking dead, it cannot catalyze its upgrade into a terrifying Mutated Scale Corpse. 0
