"Yes, sir, I want your Fava Beans," Xia Muxin said with a bright smile, sensing his confusion. 0

Though the old man was aged, he was wise. He looked into Xia Muxin's crescent-moon-like eyes and wiped the damp corners of his eyes with his dry, calloused hands. He sighed as he gazed at Summer Forest behind Xia Muxin and said, "Child, I know you have a good heart, but I can't sell you these Fava Beans without a clear conscience." 0

A few years ago, their village suffered from a flood. His son and daughter-in-law were working in the fields when the flood swept them away, leaving behind only the month-old Small and his frail Wife. When the waters receded, the fields were filled with mud and silt, and the government did not intervene. The elderly couple had limited ability to clear the mud, so their land lay fallow, unable to plant rice or any crops, forcing them to grow whatever they could during the season. 0

This year, they managed to plant several acres of Fava Beans, and the harvest was good, but there were no buyers. 0

Small was still growing, and they kept a few hens at home. The eggs they laid could only be sold for some Rice Bran in return, which sustained them through tough times. 0

But it was hard on this child. The girl’s clothing was no better than his. In the countryside, who wouldn’t know how to grow such things? If he sold to them, how could he live with himself? 0

"Sir, are you from Dayao Village?" As they left, Xia Muxin had brought a bamboo tube filled with water to prevent thirst on the way. Summer Forest took off the hemp rope from his shoulder and walked over with the bamboo tube in hand while opening the Active Lid to offer it. 0

The old man gratefully accepted the bamboo tube with both hands. He let Small drink a few sips first before taking several big gulps himself. Then he handed it back to Summer Forest, wiping his mouth with an apologetic smile. "Brother, I happened to forget my water today. Thank you; we are indeed from Dayao Village." 0

Seeing her father chatting with the old man, Xia Muxin affectionately patted Small's head before walking toward the cart. She quickly grabbed an oil paper package from the Bamboo Basket and took out a Scallion Pancake to hand it to Small. "Your name is Small, right? Are you hungry? This pancake is still warm and smells delicious." 0

Small's eyes widened in surprise as he timidly accepted the Scallion Pancake but hesitated to bring it to his mouth. 0

"Miss, you really shouldn't. This must have cost a lot," the old man said as he quickly snatched the Scallion Pancakes from Small's hands and handed them back to Xia Muxin. 0

"Please let Small have it. The child is still growing and can't go hungry," Xia Muxin insisted, pushing the Scallion Pancakes back toward Small. 0

"It's not worth much. We were just lucky to wander around Town and happened to help a lost child find their parents. That child's family is well-off, so they gave us some Scallion Pancakes. There's plenty more in the basket, so take this back and let your family have a taste," Xia Muxin said quickly as the old man tried to refuse again. 0

"The child can have it, that's enough for me. I can't accept it. You have such a kind heart, Miss. You'll surely achieve great things in the future. Brother, you are truly blessed," the old man replied, unwilling to take the thick oil paper package but grateful for even one Scallion Pancake. 0
